  1. Reasons that I feel confident about beating the Eagles, that may or may not be accurate: 1) Vick hasn't exactly torn up the Bears historically. In his career, he's only beaten the Bears 1 out of 5 tries, is 72-123 for 870 yards, 3 TD's, 3 INT's. 2) The Eagles haven't had an extremely tough schedule. They've only beaten the Rams and Redskins...not exactly brag worthy. 3) Bears will be coming off 2 weeks of preparation, and should have everyone healthy. There's really no situation, other than maybe opening day, that will be better for the Bears to be ready for a game. Plus the Bears have fared well against an Eagles squad that has been consistently rated higher than them in recent years.
  2. you kind of listed everything worth listing. I'd like to see a Blackhawks game in Canada, preferably Montreal or Toronto. as for your baseball game in every stadium that is active upon completion comment, does completion = death?
  3. The amount is extremely relevant because you are talking about getting nothing in return. If you only eat $2m to get rid of him, and get nothing in return, then there is cost savings. If you pay half his damn salary to not play for you and get nothing in return you are intentionally screwing yourself.
  4. Oh right, the offensive value. Make it 10-12 and 6-8 then, it's not an exact number I have a lot of conviction about. The point is that finding a starter to put up roughly a 2 WAR is not a terribly difficult thing to do. You can do it at market value(Maholm starts to make sense as an example here), or you can go after a Gorzelanny type to fill that spot. There might be a little less certainty, but that money could be the difference between having Fielder/Wilson/Ramirez or just Fielder/Ramirez or something like that. The budget is tight, and there's just not enough ceiling or certainty in Zambrano's performance to not try to free up some payroll by dealing him. The same applies to Soriano really, although his is more difficult because we're talking a longer term contract. You aren't freeing up payroll if you are paying Zambrano to play elsewhere, getting nothing in return and going back out onto the market to pay for potential replacement production and/or trading other assets to acquire the replacement.
  5. Regardless of the fact that you probably can't, it still doesn't make any sense to pay $8-10m for him to play somewhere else. How is the bolded part irrelevant? If you can replace him for the amount of money you're saving, then it's a cost-neutral move. If you can save a little more, it's a positive move. Because you can get value for the guy.
  6. what the hell does that mean?
  7. Oh my god, the first call after that interview. If Theo was like sex to your ears, that "close up shop in the Dominican and focus on the good old USA" nonsense was the sex toy rape scene from Se7en.
  8. Regardless of the fact that you probably can't, it still doesn't make any sense to pay $8-10m for him to play somewhere else.
  9. why? Why to what, exactly? Why would you pay $8-10m for him to go away with nothing in return?
  10. Of course you can assume that. I don't know why you would, or why you would want to, but you can.
  11. http://deadspin.com/5853545/spotted-albert-pujols-yesterday-at-best-buy-in-a-sleeveless-shirt-buying-captain-america-on-dvd speaking of the morbidly obese and potential 2012* Chicago Cubs 1B http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/11/2011/10/m8dss.jpg Albert went shopping *assuming the Cubs would acquire him and then he dies and they are on the hook for the remainder of his contract after 2012.
  12. we were talking about NSBB's front office and the possibility of adding conky in as executive vice president of fresh ideas
  13. I think they did prioritize it years ago, they just weren't good at it and didn't understand the competitive advantages they could have used.
  14. and back to welcoming conky's fresh blood?
  15. Coward very true. i'll go on record saying he should stay

  17. It still chaps my hide that they went after Latroy Hawkins as a Type A free agent for middle relief without caring about the repurcussions. It just speaks volumes toward Hendry's absurd values.
  18. Not at all worried about it. If he is brought in it has nothing to do with rejuvenating the fan base, and he will be gone if he doesn't produce the results expected. Guaranteed there will be lots of dumb fans who would be more quick to blame Epstein than Sandberg. Luckily the fans aren't making high level decisions. Ricketts isn't an idiot.
  19. Over the course of an 82 game season season I'm glad they limit the OT time. No reason to make these guys play that much harder for 5 more minutes a night.
