  1. I actually think the hysterical thing is there are people who will be unhappy with that. Not just less enthusiastic than most, but genuinely disappointed.
  2. The national perception of Ramirez is based upon the ignorant rants of local media. He's choosing to combat that perception. Yeah, but why give it more traction? Leave it behind in Chicago. It already has traction. Everybody who reports on Ramirez reports bases it on the perception supplied by Kaplan, , Brenly, Sullivan & Co. We've seen multiple comments by Buster Olney, Timmy K and others who all bad mouth Ramirez.
  3. I don't think it is out of nowhere. Theo has mentioned Francona and admitted he's under consideration. I think his talk about not being Boston West (or whatever it was) trumps those statements, but it's not out of nowhere. It has been a chance since the day Boston missed the playoffs and started killing their own.
  4. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/andy_staples/11/15/mtv-music-video-power-rankings/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t11_a1 I have no idea how accurate these rankings are, but I enjoyed the premise. Even if it probably counts as a Simmons rip-off.
  5. Just a wife beater ....oh wait that was K-Rod nevermind father-in-law-beater which might not even be illegal in queens and is actually sanctioned in florida.

  7. The goal is not to let guys go the minute they pass their prime. He was still quite productive and valuable after his peak.
  8. If he's good, his final year of arbitration will easily surpass $12m. Also, Theriot got $2.6m in his first year of arbitration, and that was by losing to the Cubs and taking their number. Castro will start at a higher level than you are assuming and make more every year.
  9. this video is good enough, but check out the 0:30 mark for CF HR feature
  10. http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2011/10/insanely_ugly_animatronic_home.php Nashville-born, New York-based artist Red Grooms would be charged with "designing a spectacular signature home-run feature that will be in the center-field area... His display will incorporate water, lasers, sound effects, and caricatures of Marlins." This is what he apparently came up with. "When you're in that ballpark, and a Marlins' player hits a home run, the whole park is going to come alive with this feature," said Michael Spring, director of the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs. "Lasers will go off. It's going to be fabulous." https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150370601964746
  11. The new "news" only comes from an email McQueary sent to his former teammates, essentially defending his honor. The report gives no indication of McQueary making any effort to stop the act beyond the obvious pause in the action that occured when everybody locked eyes, and before he ran away.
  12. https://twitter.com/#!/clarkspencer/status/136307530640007168 Hanley doesn't want to move positions?
  13. And soon-to-be mentor of Andrew Luck?: "Legendary former Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning quickly discovered something in his role as co-chairman of the selection committee charged with hiring the Rebels' next football coach. He has learned that imagination runs wild when compiling a list of candidates to replace lame duck coach Houston Nutt, fired a week ago effective at the end of the regular season. How wild? Try the suggestion that Archie's famous No. 2 son, injured Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning, should retire from the NFL because of his neck injury and coach the Rebels. ‘I've gotten about 20 or 25 e-mails from people in that regard,' said the elder Manning, who was in town Monday night to speak to the Touchdown Club of Memphis. "I passed that on to Peyton. He said, 'Just tell them that I'm 0-10 as an assistant for Indianapolis.'" And for those that can't fathom googling an excerpt to find out where this is from: http://deadspin.com/5859610/a-beautiful-soccer-goal-that-results-in-a-not+so+beautiful-celebration
  14. Would you expect him to carry on bringing children to campus in plain view of the guy who saw him rape a child? no, but that's different. i would assume after being busted raping a kid by someone who then leaves the scene, he would probably think, "i better stop raping this kid in case that guy that just ran off goes and gets help/the cops/angry mob," as opposed to "welp, back to this raping i was in the middle of." maybe that depends on how close he was to finishing.
  15. Because rapists never continue their act despite the danger of being caught? I'm not sure why you'd highly doubt the ability of a child rapist to act irrationally, especially while in the act of raping. The fact is, every indication is that all McQueary knew was that the act was interrupted, not ended. He didn't make sure it ended unless he waited around to see the kid dress and leave, physically seperated the two and/or immediately called authorities. Seeing them pause, while in the act, then leaving does not give McQueary any knowledge of what happened next. If he made sure it was over before leaving, why wasn't that in his grand jury testimony?
  16. That's what the crazy Pittsburgh writer said in his April column back when nobody was talking about the situation (and PSU was still granting access to Sandusky).
  17. I like how you manage to be so incredibly wrong and such a jerk at the same time. if the middle ground didn't exist no team would ever sign a guy before the last minute
  18. any player who has interest in a longterm deal that offers security at this stage of his career has no choice but to leave money on the table. They can choose to go for the maximum every year and wait until his first free agent year to sign big, but that choice has risk.
  19. I'm not being obtuse. You guys are misestimating one of two factors: Either you think Castro's agent is dumb and doesn't realize how much Castro will be in line for if he continues to develop, or you are considering the risk of him not living up to such a contract to be negligible. If Castro were a free agent this offseason, and you had a choice between 7/$55 guaranteed or 5/$25 non-guaranteed, it'd be absurd not to choose the latter. You are absolutely being obtuse. You are asking what's in it for him and then when that is explained you are acting as though nobody has explained what's in it for him. Castro is not a free agent this offseason and so it is downright stupid to bring that up in the discussion.
  20. That risk is real. The Cubs currently have him under team control with no guaranteed money for the next five seasons. I'm in no hurry to assume that risk when there's no need to do so, for speculative gains in seasons six through ?. Why are you being so obtuse? What's in it for the Cubs is getting him at a reduced rate over the next several years and what's in it for him is security. There's a mutually beneficial point in there that makes sense.
  21. The truth hurts, and boys will be boys, eh? Please present your evidence that everyone in the football program new that Sandusky was a pedophile, Gus. I would say it's safe to say that everybody didn't know, but that several people did, and that is more than just McQueary and Paterno.
  22. I'm not sure I would be that pissed. The AL West isn't exactly led by the greatest run organizations in the league. They've been an after thought in the NL central for a while now. Now they can have a somewhat local rivalry and get to go to California and Seattle instead of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri and Wisconsin when road tripping.
  23. Because I wanted to see other peoples' answers. What's in it for him is a lifetime of financial security without the risk of injury or decline ruining that opportunity.
  24. The prerequisite for holding a job in baseball for decades is to already have a job in baseball for a decade.
  25. The logo or the GM?
