  1. This is absolute nonsense thinking from a fan perspective. The fan has nothing but upside in this scenario. If he doesn’t live up to the contract the owner eats it and you start looking for a qb again, something you’ve already been desperately doing for decades.
  2. Felt like a Jones desperate to be loved game. He played pissed off. The team also played with a ton of energy, and may have won for the final time this season.
  3. Van Ness would be a good pick with one of their 2nds, but at 9 I'm prolly taking the best available 3 tech, not an edge. you absolutely cannot go best player at a specific position that early in the draft. That’s a great way to waste any value you have with top picks.
  4. The 76'ers did it very famously. The Red Wings are a large market hockey team that has embraced tanking since Yzerman has taken over. He had a head start because the previous GM tried to keep the Wings a playoff team several years after they clearly had no way of winning the Cup. the red wings did not tank. They just suck and have for over half a decade. There’s a difference between sucking at hockey and tanking.
  5. Avs trade for Jack Johnson and Stars putting a beating on Colorado. Coincidence? I think not.
  6. Wait, are you saying no other "big city" team has ever tanked? In any sport? I think that's a bit hyperbolic. I dont think he's saying that, I think he's saying that no other "big city" has seen their teams embrace the tank across sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey etc) quite like Chicago has in the last 20 years or so I can’t think of another big market team that has done what the Blackhawks did this year, in terms of blatant over the top tanking. I think teams have unintentionally became really bad. Then you have the Bears pulling the almost unheard of move of a new guy bringing in absolutely nothing in his first year, and sabotaging a first round QB with zero help. The Cubs pulled off their 2nd tank in less than a decade and blamed it on the pandemic their owners political party claimed wasn’t real. It’s all rather disgusting. When NY teams perform this poorly, heads roll. But Chicago applauds it. And all the teams are doing it together.
  7. The Seabrook one is the only contract that truly bit them, and it was completely unnecessary and bad the day they signed it. But there were dozens of avoidable mistakes along the way that doomed them.
  8. I think it’s shameful to tank professional sports seasons and that’s all Chicago teams do now. Every other big city team/organization manages to take a year or two step back before rebounding. Chicago has embraced the tank and should be embarrassed, but aren’t.
  9. Except nobody has ever done it. Good teams generally take a year or two to step back and reload. But rarely do they bottom out and start over. It takes a decade to rebuild a winner. You need a lot of good hockey players to win a lot of games. The bottom of the league is littered with teams that were good in the 10's and are rebuilding. You are right that good teams can retool and be good again later on Teams like Boston and Pittsburgh seem to be perpetually good. But the Hawks under Bowman could never do that and instead found themselves in a positon where they were nowhere near good enough, had little draft capital, not many prospects, and a poor cap situation. The gut rebuild was the best path forward in their mind. Do I think they should have kept Debrincat and Dach and other young players? Yes, but even with them it was going to be a multi-year rebuild imo. The bad teams previously being good doesn’t mean anything. The top of the league is littered with teams that have been good for a decade+ with the exception of a year or two. The tear down is easy. The rebuild is the problem. The devils spent two decades in mediocrity and are only just now finally good again. When Davidson says it’s going to be a long process, he’s probably underselling how long that will be.
  10. I just didn’t see a path forward after Bowman epically botched the 2021 offseason in a way that almost seemed like he was sabotaging the team. Rebuilds in hockey suck as hey have the strictest salary cap by far. You can’t just buy a good team and you can’t just cut players with bad contracts and save money like you can in the NFL. When a team finds itself in the position the Blackhawks were in, the most obvious path to contention is it tear it down and spend multiple years building it back up. Except nobody has ever done it. Good teams generally take a year or two to step back and reload. But rarely do they bottom out and start over. It takes a decade to rebuild a winner. You need a lot of good hockey players to win a lot of games.
  11. Chicago may own the 2025 draft. They got a 2nd for Domi.
  12. Yeah, I thought that was clear. The player is going to overvalue himself, and that makes it difficult to bring a guy back after allowing him test the market.
  13. Eberflus did say he wanted the engine that makes everything go
  14. Instead of comparing them to the Dodgers or the Yankees/Mets, why don't we compare them to the Phillies, Padres, Blue Jays, Angels, Braves, Astros, and the Rangers. They certainly have the funds to outspend these teams. If you look at the payrolls over the past 10 years, they mostly have. They’ve owned the team for a dozen years and attempted to fund a winner in roughly one third of those seasons.
  15. The Blackhawks tried to lose on purpose. The player is under no obligation to make that process easier.
  16. Assume they have to go to conference championship round, which they will not. Pretty worthless.
  17. It’s the internet, you should not feel welcome None of us know each other, and that’s the best part.
  18. Hi Brock. I’m happy for you. Or sorry that happened.
  19. White and nerdy is a culture
  20. They got a 1st rd pick for McCabe and Lafferty. In 2025.
  21. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054725/
  22. I kind of dig that this website has a new curmudgeon taking the reins
  23. That was the fakest fake trade that ever faked
  24. Sure sounds like this trade deadline is going to be a dud for the Blackhawks. Not going to lie I’m a little happy about the possibility of this whole blatant tank job blowing up in their faces.
