  1. Maybe you didn't follow the Cubs as closely in the early part of the decade. 2003 was the year that the was supposed to be the beginning of dominance for a decade. The 2008 team was the end of any relevance. but in terms of which team was better, it's not even close. the 2008 team was completely stacked. That 2008 team was not stacked by any stretch of the imagination. They didn't have any holes, but they were basically just good everywhere instead of having any real greatness. 2003 had a HOF RF and what should have been 2 HOF starting pitchers at the beginning of their careers. 2003 had the feeling of a team on the verge of continued dominance and 2008 had the feel of a complete one-off opportunity. Not to mention 2003 did something no other Cubs team had ever done, win a playoff series, while 2008 ended in completely bombed. Say what you will about playoffs being a crap shoot, but let's not pretend they don't matter or shouldn't influence your opinion of a team.
  2. I disagree. They hurt and they are symptomatic of a coaching staff that game plans poorly.
  3. The 2 week prep time for BB is overblown, and Brady looked like crap yesterday. BB can't scheme a defense to make up for the fact that they aren't good. They've been fortunate to have played the 2 worst QBs in this year's playoffs so far.
  4. What makes you come to this conclusion? I will say that based on the teams he's been involved with its rather underwhelming but we don't know enough about him to assume what kind of draft picks he makes. The Chiefs have actually made quite a few good picks the last couple of seasons. He worked for Ruskell, who worked for Angelo. It's a lateral move. Status quo. It makes the Angelo firing pointless if Emery is the hire. That doesn't necessarily mean they are the same person. Would you consider Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy to be the same type of head coaches? I dunno I just don't want to draw any conclusions without knowing anything about them other than who they worked under in the past. I'm yes, they are absolutely the same type of coach. Emery would be a terribly uninspirational hire.
  5. No it doesn't. Who do they have to squeeze into that roster? The bottom 3-4 guys are probably all going to be garbage. What's the point in getting jumpy now? If nobody was going to offer much of anything and the Cubs were going to pay all of it, then the best bet always was to try and see if he can get hot in time for the trading deadline and then cause somebody else to do something stupid.
  6. They traded out of the bottom of the 1st and ended up taking Manning and Hester in the 2nd. I don't remember them getting much for the trade either. They traded their 1st (25th overall I believe) to Buffalo for their 2nd and 3rd, and took Manning and Dusty with those two picks. They didn't make another 3rd round pick so that must have been used in another trade.
  7. Right, but if you think he could get 1/4, then something like 3/6-7 shouldn't make them flinch, and that would be around the midpoint. Exactly. The team that gets him is going to have to be willing to eat some money too. Nobody is going to keep him on their roster for 3 years. I don't think a team at 3/7 would look at it as eating 4.6 Mil. They'd look at it as giving Soriano 1 year for 7 Million. Certainly not outlandish for a team that is desperate for power and hopeful that Soriano turns it around somewhat. 1/7 with 2 team options at zero cost.
  8. because good organizations don't want to give up home games. It's not just the Rams. It's Rams vs Patriots, and the Rams vs, presumably, 2 higher profile teams in the following seasons. They also have a history of going over there when they were the LA Rams.

  10. Ahhh, 1999, my first year with sunday ticket.
  11. Sounds like a pretty good starting point for negotiations. A difference of $8m?
  12. Carlos Pena to Rays on a 1 year deal for $7.25m. Pillow 2.0
  13. the deal is backloaded AND it will get him paid big $ for the next three years? Yeah, backloaded with an out clause getting paid big in the short-term doesn't add up. I still think a front-loaded deal with an out clause would be a good investment because you can pay him what he's worth the next 3-4 years and entice him to try for more just before he starts to decline.
  14. I know there's a specific draft thread and a coaching turnover thread, and somebody said something about maybe there are still games to be played, but here's a general offseason thread regardless. This is interesting: Tampa was getting hyped as a potential London favorite due in part to their owners' ties to EPL. But now the Rams are going three years in a row over there. There's already been whispers of them moving back to LA, and we've heard talk of a potential London based team on the horizon. Agreeing to this situation seems increase the chances of that franchise being on the move.
  15. I just saw a baseball is better in the day ad somewhere
  16. I can't imagine what motivation they would have for accepting less. They need a QB, and he's going to help whoever that is just by being there as a weapon.
  17. If Miami was going with full regime change I could see it happening, but with Ireland staying on as GM I just don't think they will be looking to deal Marshall away so easily after the acquisition. You remember what they gave up for him? Was it a 2nd? 2 2s 4/14/2010: Signed a five-year, $47.3 million contract. The deal contains $12.5 million guaranteed, including a $5.5 million signing bonus and $6 million of Marshall's 2012 salary barring a league suspension in the first three years. 2011: $6.5 million (+ $3 million roster bonus due 4/2), 2012: $9.3 million, 2013-2014: $9.1 million, 2015: Free Agent

  19. Recent precedent doesn't determine final price but it's a really strong indication that nobody should be expecting anything resembling a blockbuster. My guess is you might be able to get something like a decent WR and a 2nd or 3rd rounder, but a 1st, or a 1st and more is probably out of the question. i doubt we're going to get a blockbuster, but maybe a swap of first round picks plus a 2nd rounder or something could be a possibility Who would be worth swapping with that would want him? You aren't getting into the top 4. Tampa could be interested in a swap at 5, maybe Washington at 6. Jacksonville, no, Miami, no. Buffalo doubtful, and by then there's very little point in making the swap for the Bears.
  20. I want to see if they can get Santonio Holmes out of NY. He feuded with Sanchez which may make him seem like a jerk, but Sanchez is kind of garbage, and he wouldn't have the need to feud with Cutler.
