In a game between two teams I don't really care for, I'd rather the team I feel is more deserving(i.e. didn't lose 7 games) win the championship. I can respect the sustained success the Patriots have had even if I don't root for them, the Giants are like the '06 Cardinals. Before yesterday, the Patriots hadn't beaten a winning team all year. And considering the Giants won the head to head matchup in November, I don't see how the Patsies are more deserving. It's a 16 game season, the difference in schedule is negligible. There are no Mountain West schools in the NFL. Again, I don't really like either team, but I can handle the team that has won 9 of 11 division titles and didn't lose 7 games this year winning a title a bit more. What? The difference in schedule is very meaningful in just a 16 game NFL season. For one, the AFC West exists.

chill and humble Those were the words somebody used to describe Tom Brady and I have no idea how that is possible. He's not anywhere near "chill". He's also an NFL QB who knocked up his actress girlfriend, then left her for the world's greatest super model. He regularly tries to get into the model business as well. On the field he cries and whines about every call that does not go his way and beyond that demands outrageous calls go in his favor. The guy has absolutely no reason to be humble, I would love for him to have been the Bears QB for the past decade and would love to live his life, but let's stop pretending he's humble. He doesn't reach the Brett Favre level of douchiness, but since when is that piece of a crap the bar you must hurdle?

Somebody like Barney is fine as a placeholder on a team with big time production elsewhere, or on a small market team that just can't handle bigger impact players. But the Cubs better be thinking bigger than simply a guy who is good enough to play for now when filling out future rosters. -

No it wasn't. It was a setback to teams that are willing to spend more in the draft. The Cubs were one of a few organizations in that position. It impacts some more than others based on current strategies, sure. We view it as particularly detrimental to the Cubs because we finally had a management team and ownership that wanted to focus on pouring more money into the draft. But it still impacts every team, and it definitely impacts teams like the Rays, Pirates and Royals more than us, because they can't fall back on building a huge scouting base as opposed to collecting as many picks as possible. How the hell can it be a setback to teams that had no interest in overspending in the first place?

No it wasn't. It was a setback to teams that are willing to spend more in the draft. The Cubs were one of a few organizations in that position. Everybody has enough cash to spend bigtime in the draft, and more and more teams were doing it. 10 teams broke the 10 million mark last year. And the market sizes of those teams were all over the board. Everybody has enough cash, but not a willingness to spend that cash. The CBA was only a setback to those teams willing to go above the norm. It wasn't a setback to all big market teams, just the ones who were willing to spend more than the rest, which is, by definition, a lot fewer organizations than every one of them.

They have a better fulltime catcher, but Victor still caught 20-something games for them last year, and he's gone. I doubt they want their young guy catching 162. Plus Soto derives most of his value from the fact that he's had 2 fantastic offensive seasons, and there is reason to believe he can do it again, especially if he was able to DH a lot. Couldn't you say the same thing for the Yankees? They are talking about DH by committee. I honestly have no idea who the starting ctacher for the Yankees is going to be. Is it not going to be Russell Martin? The Yankees issue is they have half a dozen guys who might be a month away from DH duty.

I hope so too, but at this point, I'm 95% sure it will be the dude from KC who used to be here. 1. He used to work for the Bears. 2. He's worked with Ruskell before. 3. Apparantly the new guy has to keep Ruskell and Lovie. He seems the most likely to do so for more than 1 year. But Ross is everything this franchise needs. A young up-and-coming football mind who could be here for the long haul and create some stability in the organization. I'm all in on Ross and will be extremely disappointed with Emery.

Why would the Tigers ever want Soto? Because they took a hit to their catching/hitting situation and Soto is a 29 year old with a career OPS over 800. They'd be better off replacing their DH with another DH and not paying for the value in his ability to catch. Maybe, but at this stage of the game they don't exactly have a million options.

Wow! The history of the NFL is littered with college coaches who failed miserably. I don't see it. Jimmy Johnson was successful. Who else? Don't say Barry Switzer. Bobby Ross? Yeah, I don't see Kelly doing well in the NFL since most of his college success has come from the type of offense he runs which won't work in the NFL. It's early but I think Harbaugh will end up very successful. Yeah, Harbaugh has a strong NFL pedigree though. Plus he's not a gimmick guy like many college coaches are.
