  1. oooooo, a football question. about tight ends
  2. Yeah, as I said, it was part of what they latched onto, but clearly there is no need for a conviction, or any finding that he was the person who provided the booze. If Roger finds that Marshall's actions led to a woman being hit in the eye, even if he didn't do it, he could suspend him given the widespread personal conduct policy available to him. From what we've heard it doesn't seem likely, but the point is there is no need for a conviction for Goodel to suspend somebody.
  3. one more question: and they still can't get past the freaking mental talk
  4. is that david haugh still going on this topic? move on already you hacks.
  5. Don't kid yourself. He was suspended because there were accusations of rape. That may have been what they latched onto in the end, but it was the rape talk that led to the suspension.
  6. lots of mental health talk going on, very little football. That's nice, I guess.
  7. marshall going overboard in romanticizing his time in Miami
  8. this reminds me of that awkward Peppers, Taylor, Manumaleuna press conference. A franchise defensive end, plus a backup RB and garbage tight end. Now it's a franchise WR and a backup QB being lumped together.

  10. make 'em find their own way home kick them off the band force them to eat lunch in the same hall as non-whites
  11. I feel like he rarely actually reports anything. He just sort of apologizes for the team's weaknesses and explains away their inability to address them. Bears are having a press conference for Marshall and Campbell at 11am central.
  12. Miami is now out on Manning and it's probably down to Tennessee or Denver. Given his history of dome games and primarily southern opponents, I have to think Manning would prefer the Titans.
  13. I don't know why you would make that assumption. All four of them could easily see their prospect status drop fairly significantly this year. Vitters probably needs to take a step forward just to tread water By retaining status. I meant they will all still BE prospects, unlike Brett or Rizzo, who probably lose their eligibility. In each case, it is possible for them to take a step forward, but my guess is only Szczur and McNutt are in our top 10 next year. However, that doesn't mean Lake or Vitters don't help upgrade the overall grading of the system. They add depth at worst, ay best they both still have high ceilings. That's a very confusing statement. If all you mean by "retaining status" is that they will still be prospects then it doesn't make much sense to say or they can improve on it. They can all take steps back this year. Still qualifying as a prospect is fairly meaningless.
  14. Mullin is the worst, he's basically a Bears mouthpiece who should be working for the team's website.

  17. yes, but he's walking a thin line if no wrongdoing whatsoever can be proven. courts have blocked his suspensions before. Sure it's a thin line, but he hasn't hesitated to walk it. In the specific case of Marshall it would seem to be difficult to have a suspension without something like an arrest being made or a settlement being reached with the woman who says she got hit.
  18. are those mississippi bigots going to get punished?
  19. But it's an image thing. The NFL has the right to pretty much suspend anybody for being an ass. You do not need a conviction to be suspended by Roger Goodell.
  20. I don't know why you would make that assumption. All four of them could easily see their prospect status drop fairly significantly this year. Vitters probably needs to take a step forward just to tread water
  21. that's shaky ground though. it's got to be tough to suspend a player and dock their pay if there is nothing there to go on. they were able to get ben because of the alcohol provided to minors thing. unless marshall was doing the same thing, or unless they can get him on something else, depriving him of pay for no other reason than the commissioner's hunch or for appearances sake, he'd have a very good law suit against the league. he could likely file some sort of injunction which would allow him to play and get paid until the matter is reviewed in court. Have you been following Goodell at all? He's a honey badger. He will use any excuse to suspend a guy, and somebody with a record who gets charged with punching a woman in the face will be an easy target. My guess is that without multiple reliable witnesses there won't be much chance for charges, so it shouldn't matter. But never count out the ginger hammer.
  22. Yep. Dusty certainly didn't help, but didn't Wood already have one elbow surgery under his belt by the time DB showed up? Lots of people have surgeries under their belt and go on to have long careers. What doesn't typically happen is that a new manager comes in and rides that surgically repaired arm into the ground with 120 pitch count game after 120 pitch count game, staying in after long rain delays. I mean, Wood threw 140+ pitches early in the season that year. He threw 130 in terribly uncomfortable conditions in Miami. He didn't do anything like that the year before. Wood never would have been the picture of durability or have a sustained career of 200 IP seasons. But there's no way you can pretend he was doomed to have his career wind down as quickly as it did if he didn't have Dusty Freaking Baker stearing the ship. Of course I can. Wood had ridiculously destructive mechanics. People were predicting an abbreviated career for him even before he was drafted. Dusty was an idiot in how he managed him, but for me Prior is the obvious wouldacouldashoulda. Wood I was just waiting for to fall apart all throughout the aughts. And Dusty made it happen sooner than it had to.
  23. they can't suspend him without a conviction. look at big ben, never been suspended. That might be a bad example since Ben was suspended for the first four games of the year in 2010 (of course you may have been joking and I completely missed it). i wasn't joking, i totally forgot about that. i thought he wasn't suspended. well, i guess they CAN suspend him without a conviction. which is bs. essentially, he was suspended for contributing to the delinquency of minors, though. he bought alcohol for college students or something, right? Yeah, there isn't a need for a conviction. It's not a court of law. It's a PR thing. If Marshall gets charged and the police more or less buy her story, he's going to get suspended. If this just hangs out there for a while with no charges, I doubt anything happens.
  24. As long as Emery doesn't spend 8 years without drafting a lineman before the 5th round they should be able to continue building the line without spending on free agents all the time. Angelo wasted a lot of money on those guys.
