  1. It can't be just weed. This is the NFL, weed doesn't drop a potential top-3 round guy to UDFA. Could be weed, but dealing it rather than smoking it.
  2. I have to admit I'm kind of happy with the eastern conference matchup. At least hockey will be a huge story around here for a couple weeks. Plus, there's an outside shot I'll be getting free tix to one of the games.
  3. Freddie Freeman seems to be doing okay: .281/.308/.512/.820 when I wrote it (on the 3rd) the braves were getting something like a 750 OPS at 1B.
  4. that game was fun to watch yesterday, or, at least the last 15 minutes
  5. I still disagree with this idea that Z had to go. I've been pleasantly surprised with how well Volstad has pitched outside of the big inning each start, but still think dealing Z at that point was selling needlessly low. Still wasn't some terrible deal or anything by any stretch, but it wasn't something that had to be done. In today's MLB it does not matter how good your players are, what matters is how many arbitration years you control of your worst players. Also, when you lose you want everybody to go home happy, not emotional. Emotional losses are worth 1.73 regular losses.
  6. And we should all hope that is how the thing goes down, if it ever does. The Cubs do not need to be shedding payroll. If they do dump some guys, I'm hoping they go the route of picking up the check in exchange for getting more talent in return.
  7. Baker has an OPS over 1000 in 25 PA vs Wolf. Reed, not so much. But LaHair doesn't need the leadoff man to get on in order to hit HR.
  8. jeffery left practice with cramps, maybe it's premenstrual.
  9. I've never been in negotiations for a contract that would pay me in excess of $100 million, but I imagine that if I was then it would be somewhat distracting to my day to day life. Also, an agent saying such a thing is part of the negotiating process. "Hey world, my client only cares about playing, we're really not all that interested in a $150m deal because it's about baseball, not money." Or, "Yeah team, don't even bother coming at me with a lowball team friendly deal. We'll wait out his arbitration and free agent years and max out before we settle for less than top dollar."
  10. OH MY GOD WHY DO FANS GET UPSET ABOUT STUFF?11!!!?!
  11. That is absolutely ridiculous.
  12. I'm fairly certain he waived that option.
  13. that's what jersey tells me man you're a douchebag
  14. If he was somehow only GM for 2 offseasons maybe I'd agree, but he's been GM since the summer of 09. That's almost 3 full years, not just 2 offseasons. You are a GM all season long and he has yet to do anything to make the Blackhawks a better team than what they were the day before he got the job.
  15. I think that was essentially what the "they signed Maholm" thread was.
  16. They absolutely were not. They were the 6th seed in the west. They did nothing in the playoffs. They were 1 win away from having the 5th highest point total in the NHL. They were good enough to do something in the playoffs. And yet they didn't. They sucked on all aspects of special teams and just about everybody but Hossa was disappointing.
  17. They absolutely were not. They were the 6th seed in the west. They did nothing in the playoffs.
  18. that's not his forehead, that's the top of his gut.
  19. Earl Bennett and Kyle Adams. what is a Kyle Adams?
  20. I have no idea who the other 2 non-Jay guys are, and I'm concerned about the confused looking white guy.
  21. Why wouldnt your parents let you play baseball? Commies? I know plenty of people who weren't allowed to play football, but I can't think of anybody who weren't allowed to play baseball.
  22. Huh, of the people I know that boo the most, the most sporty thing they did was a couple years of cross country. And two of them are lawyers, another just finished his MBA and a couple others are relatively upstanding citizens. Of the people who went so far as to play something in college or the minors, probably half of them aren't even active fans of any team anymore, and the rest are not the booing type. There is some crossover of booing and people who did multiple sports in high school. Being meatbally in general is a little less correlated. Some of the people who boo have more modern thoughts about the game while others who hold every conventional wisdom type belief aren't booers.
  23. Sportswriters would have you believe that today's world is a more crass and ill behaved one and that is why people act poorly in stadia/arenas. Also, Chicago based ones would theorize that nobody cared about the team winning back then and the booing increased as expectations for wins increased in the late 90's early 00's. Also, like a father who yells at his children, we boo because we care. When the booing stops, that is when you have to worry.
  24. Do you agree that the collective IQ of those people booing is at least 10 points lower than those not booing? No, not really. I have come to the conclusion that loads of otherwise intelligent human beings are in general really stupid about sports. Plenty of highly educated people boo and do a lot of other things one could describe as stupid. It has something to do with the whole fanatic thing. Ok, I actually agree with this. It drives me nuts because most of my good friends are really smart people but they are sports meatballs. That's not to say that they're stubborn about it or unwilling to learn, but I can only do so much. I will say this, in my small circle I have noticed the less the person participated in sports the more likely they are to boo.
