  1. I don't know how you can cheat in the Olympics any more (outside of throwing matches). They test the ever-loving [expletive] out of your blood. Blood-doping would seem to be pretty easy to catch And yet bike races still happen.
  2. It has to take years because that is how the front office has decided to go about doing the rebuild.
  3. We brought up Castillo and Cardenas for the 2 position players, so they need to fill the other rotation spot. Volstad and Raley would seem to be the favorites. Garza, Shark, Wood, Germano, Coleman should fill the 5 man now, right? Wood should go tomorrow on normal rest and then an off day allows them to slot Garza in next week. I forgot that Germano was taking Garza's spot temporarily. It'll be interesting to see if they keep both Germano and Coleman in there, or if they just viewed them as rubber arms that they can use to mop up innings while the roster was in flux. Well, with the lack of guys below them that need the spots I think they could view them in both ways.

  5. Park/league factors have to be taken into account when making the comparison. Yes, plus how do you just dismiss a 2 year age difference? Not to mention Villanuueva's fielding advantage. Vitters at Villinueva's age now was in AA with nearly the same OPS Villanueva is posting in A ball this year.770 v. .777. I don't think either are elite prospects. I just like Vitters hit/contact tool so much I'd rank him higher. Plus Villanueva's been hit 20 times this year that irrationally inflates his OBP/overall OPS. And one guy is good at defense while the other is bad.
  6. Not that I expected them to but I'm glad they didn't get tunnel vision looking for pitching.
  7. you can't just look at the numbers in a vacuum for these guys. on the surface hendricks looks good
  8. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan Great Chicagoans besides Demp: Jane Addams, Harold Washington, Frank Lloyd Wright, Studs Terkel, Ray Rayner, Mike Royko, Billy Corgan. Sullivan is enjoying making fun of the Dempster going away party.

  10. Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter And it's official: OT Jeff Otah did not pass his physical with the Jets and now reverts back to the Panthers.

  12. lol okay Kevin I'm not good w/ the Twit. Who's saying what there? bmix said the Cubs should get more than webster, Goldstein retweeted him and say webster alone would be highway robbery
  13. but he hit 2 homeruns Goony, point is he can hit the ball out of that park. It's not THAT difficult a place to play. That isn't really the point. He can hit the ball out of any park. The point is the rate one would expect to do it in different parks is quite different.
  14. I like Russell, but he's getting close to arbitration eligible isn't he? His trade value will be at its highest while pitching well at dirt cheap prices.
  15. Hard to see Soriano accepting a deal to Pittsburgh if he actually turned down a deal to San Francisco. PNC is a better park for him to play in. He's spent the majority of his career east of the mississippi, and maybe he had a boyhood affection for Roberto Clemente? Okay, he shouldn't but logic goes out the window with a lot of these decisions.
  16. That's kind of what people were expecting in the first place Which shouldn't change the disappointment when people realized there was an opportunity for more.
  17. I do like this part of the email the Cubs just sent out: Maybe a bit of a reach there with that one? I guess it's better than daytime batting averages or w-l record in home games.
