  1. HERBIE Hancock. Big surprise. Nuts&Gum trolling for a lol. Big surprise. You overreacting to something and then making a ridiculous statement. That's not a ridiculous statement. They played very poorly, and if they play like that in the regular season they will miss the playoffs by a wide mark, which would most likely mean Lovie is gone. Not ridiculous, pretty much spot on.
  2. As Dew noted, the Cubs were a notoriously small operation from a front office standpoint prior to Ricketts. I'm not sure how much of that was Hendry, but Ricketts gave Theo the greenlight to do what is necessary and Theo clearly wants a much bigger group of potential secret santas, so I would expect them to replace these guys, and maybe add on total numbers.
  3. Yeah, he's a slob, he also had a ridiculous late career resurgence, so um, yeah, we all knew he was doing something.
  4. How many game do you have them winning this year? game(s)
  5. Doesn't matter, Lovie is going all new-school and the team will never punt.

  7. that's not really apples to apples since it's the biggest rivalry and viewership was dominated by fans who were likely supporting the other team.
  8. primetime vs weekday, no? even worse, the vast majority of that viewership was almost certainly tuning in for Mexico. Big numbers: Mexico-USA soccer averaged 5.3 million viewers in US (4.5M Univision, 797K ESPN2). USWNT gold-medal game averaged 4.35M.
  9. I probably wouldn't venture from here.
  10. I never paid much attention to it before I got on twitter, but quickly realized profootballtalk is complete garbage.
  11. Corey Patterson spent his formative years working in a Don Baylor/Dusty Baker/Jim Hendry led organization that had no interest in patience.
  12. Augusta National admitted Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore
  13. Sure it does. Having his flaws exposed by lesser pitchers at earlier stages absolutely means it's more of a problem, and by definition means it will be harder to fix. Mechanical changes are mechanical changes. Some are harder to implement than others, but when they are exposed has little to do with how difficult they are to fix. It's not some linear scale. Jackson has always struck out, but the goal isn't trying to get him down to a 10% K rate either. His K-rate didn't spike and performance didn't suffer until after he had about 300 AAA plate appearances. This isn't Russell Branyan striking out at 30+% through his minor league career. That doesn't make it some guarantee that Jackson will figure it out, but making adjustments to make a little more contact is not some major overhaul that's long been overdue. Who said anything about a 10% rate? Jackson has had a much bigger problem striking out than Rizzo. It was pointless to try and compare Rizzo's struggles with what Jackson has been going through for much longer. And it will be harder for Jackson to fix his problems than it was for Rizzo.
  14. Apologies for bringing this back, but seriously? You're seriously going to say that it's easy to fix problems with approach, much easier than mechanical problems? That's not even trolling from Law like the Barney comment, that's just flat out dumb. No it isn't. An approach is a mental thing that you can choose to do differently. You can tweak mechanics, but an overhaul is extremely difficult.
  15. But was Rizzo ever around 30% in the minors like Jackson was? Jackson having the flaws in his swing exposed at a lower level doesn't make them less fixable. Sure it does. Having his flaws exposed by lesser pitchers at earlier stages absolutely means it's more of a problem, and by definition means it will be harder to fix. Rizzo never really had a problem until his brief callup to the majors where he played in the worst park to hit in the majors. There's all sorts of reasons to expect a player in that situation to struggle, and that would include increased k rates. He never had that in the minors though. Jackson has had much higher k rates all along the way. It would be silly to pretend he doesn't have more to do, and that his problems are less fixable than Rizzo's brief bout with striking out. In Rizzo's bad major league debut he struck out at a lesser rate than Jackson did in AAA.
  16. Nobody was pretending they were the greatest show on turf, they were good though. And I'm not sure how you can say player can't be meatball when pretty much everything that defines the meatball comes from the mind of players. Martz had nothing to work with and did a reasonable good job. Tice has been given a hell of a lot more to work with.
  17. I don't think that's really what he said, and we should all hope that is not at all his intentions.
  18. they don't let adulterers back in the country. sharia law
  19. Middlebrooks had an OPS+ of 117 before he got hurt. Jed Lowrie sits at 116, Pedroia - 101, Rizzo - 120, Reddick - 123. Granted Lavarnway hasn't played much in the big leagues this year, and Ellsbury and Kalish have been hurt most of the season. But that lineup doesn't suck. A team constructed solely of homegrown players would indeed suck, and the process of having that team built would be awful for Cubs fans. He made it clear they joked about it and it is impossible.
  20. http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago-cubs/cubs-talk/The-DeJesus-deal-Dont-expect-Cubs-to-mak?blockID=758383&feedID=10336 Here's a Mooney article about "the plan" with a couple links to what Jed had to say on CTL.
  21. I don't get why Jol is the douche/bad guy in this saga.
  22. the awful helmets are clouding your judgement. Those jerseys are terrible.
  23. Umm, yeah, the whole thing is awful. The jersey numbers are 8 sizes too small.
  24. I'll nit pick a little on this. I think the team at the top is good, but I wouldn't want to be without Theo. For me, he's the guy with the ties to the World Series championships. Call me old fashioned but the fact that Theo was a part of 2 WS champs plays a big role in his validity as the captain of the Cubs ship. We're betting he can reproduce that success. None of the current Cubs overhaul even happens without Theo, and Theo doesn't happen without his prior success in Boston. Jed has ties to the championships as well. At least from rankings, he and McLeod turned around the Padres farm pretty quickly. Jed + McLeod would still make me very excited. I'm not sure what you mean by saying none of this happens without Theo. Are you saying Jed wouldn't be here without Theo? I can buy that, but I meant what I said as more of a compliment to Jed than it being a realistic alternative. I would be much more hesitant to get on board with the type of overhaul they are doing if Theo wasn't here. It's tough enough to get on board with this tanking, but at least I have confidence in the group as a whole to eventually get things right. Without Theo I'm not sure I have that confidence.
