  1. I think Ruggiano would be a good addition - can play all 3 OF positions.
  2. Depends on what we get for Castro. We still need a CF and possibly a SP and we still have a shaky OF with Schwarber and Soler.
  3. Castro for Warren + Sanchez tied to Montero to Rangers for Tolleson (or other young relief pitcher)? Free up lots of money for Zobrist or Heyward/Gordon/Upton.
  4. That's why I don't understand so many posters getting excited about Heyward or Gordon. I figure we have around $14 million after signing Lackey with a few more holes to fill, so I can't see Heyward/Gordon playing for a backloaded contract paying about $10 million next year. Also, I don't understand the closer rumors, unless it's part of a package deal getting a CF and/or SP also.
  5. 6 yrs of Baez for one year of Strasburg? I'll pass Not that I wouldn't deal him, but he'd need to be included as part of a package in deal for a controllable young starter like Carrasco. Otherwise, I'd rather just buy pitching or use the minor league system to acquire it. Rotoworld has Baez at five years. Five years of boom or bust Baez for one year of Strasburg, who looked great the final two months of the season, isn't anything to sneeze at. Especially considering if Strasburg left we'd get a comp pick in return and Baez leaving doesn't open up a hole on the roster. Also I'd love a chance at buying low on Cashner. If Almora or McKinney could be turned into Cashner I make the deal in a second. From 11/27 The guy running the MLBTR chat that day certainly made it sound like we could get Cashner for something less than Almora/McKinney (of course that is his opinion).
  6. I remember reading they were interested in moving him so they could make Betances the closer earlier this offseason. He's really expensive for a reliever, but i like what he offers a whole lot. If they were to offer some salary relief I'd be all about Andrew Miller. Maybe a blockbuster Gardner + Miller for Castro + Hammel + Wood. Follow up with a trade of Soler for Salazar. Money for next year stays pretty even. Follow up by signing a RF (Parra?) or trade prospects for a decent (reasonably cheap and/or young) RF. Position players - Rizzo, Baez, Russell, Bryant, Schwarber, Gardner, Parra/????, Montero. Rotation- Arrieta, Lester, Lackey, Salazar, Hendricks Bullpen- Miller, Rondon, Strop, Grimm, Richard, Ramirez, Edwards, Medina, Rosscup, Acevedo, Brothers, Cook, Leathersich, Patton
  7. If I recall correctly, they were trying to get Taijuan Walker from SEA for Ozuna and didn't think Paxton was enough. That's a very high price tag. They can ask for the sky, but if enough teams reject them they might settle for something more reasonable.
  8. I'm thinking Heyward and Gordon are way too expensive for our budget. I agree that Ozuna would be a great pickup for CF or RF (if we trade Soler). Keeping Soler, we can put Ozuna in CF and trade Baez for pitching.
  9. We might be able to afford bringing Fowler back and then trading Baez for a young pitcher.
  10. Might be able to re-sign Fowler with what's left and then trade Baez for a young pitcher.
  11. If he can do it, it's a cheap fix for CF. If he's only okay, it adds to Joe's versatility plan or to his trade value.
  12. I'm sure Pollock isn't available. If he was, Baez, Castro, Almora and a second tier pitching prospect seems like a good start.
  13. Sign Gavin Floyd and Mike Minor, trade for BJ Upton. 2 SP and a CF - done.
  14. How much money of the $33 million owed to Upton are they sending us?
  15. http://www.21cpw.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/d1Z-thats-not-how-it-works-thats-not-how-any-of-this-works.jpg It's starting to look like it. Every pitcher that signs seems to be jacking up the price the ones still out there. whose price has gotten jacked up aside from a huge AAV rumor about greinke and a rumor about samardzija? zimmerman and price both got what was expected. Price & Zimmerman set the market price and it certainly jacked up Greinke and Samardzija (at least according to the rumors). Cueto looks like he's asking for more than most expected. If Samardzija gets $100 million, I would think Leake and Chen would try to get an extra few million.

  17. Make my original trade ( blockbuster package together for Quintana and Eaton. Baez, Almora/McKinney, Vogelbach, Underwood, ????????) Trade Soler for Salazar. Sign Heyward/Upton/Gordon for RF. Rizzo, Castro, Russell, Bryant, Schwarber, Eaton, Heyward/Upton/Gordon, Montero with a rotation of Arrieta, Lester, Quintana, Salazar, Hendricks, Hammel. Still should have enough money to tweak the bullpen and the bench.
  18. If you're going to sign a FA pitcher, hurry up and do it because the way this market is going Leake, Chen, and Lackey are going to start asking for $100 million too.
  19. I guess it's possible that he confused Adam Eaton with Chris Sale? I've suggested putting a blockbuster package together for Quintana and Eaton. Baez, Almora/McKinney, Vogelbach, Underwood, ???????? Solve CF and SP in one trade. That may not be enough to get Quintana by himself, let alone Quintana and Eaton. That's why I added the ???????. It's a deal certainly worth looking into to solve a couple of our issues without affecting the budget very much.

  21. Your rotation includes Shark? I didn't see how you fit him into the budget.
  22. In today's MLBTR chat: What is Andrew Cashner worth? Not all that much. One year and $8 mil or whatever he's projected at. If you really believe in him and think he's going to deliver a good year, then sure, there's excess value there. But it isn't long-term value b/c he'll be a FA. I mean, he's obviously not a guy who's just sort of worth his contract, but I have a hard time seeing a club parting with a significant prospect asset at this point. If we can get him without parting with a significant prospect, wouldn't he be a decent addition to our rotation depth?
  23. The next labor deal could eliminate the success of the Cubs & Astros for teams in the future: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14214254/what-awaits-negotiations-major-league-baseball-next-labor-deal
