  1. I'm thinking Heyward and Gordon are way too expensive for our budget. I agree that Ozuna would be a great pickup for CF or RF (if we trade Soler). Keeping Soler, we can put Ozuna in CF and trade Baez for pitching.
  2. We might be able to afford bringing Fowler back and then trading Baez for a young pitcher.
  3. Might be able to re-sign Fowler with what's left and then trade Baez for a young pitcher.
  4. If he can do it, it's a cheap fix for CF. If he's only okay, it adds to Joe's versatility plan or to his trade value.
  5. I'm sure Pollock isn't available. If he was, Baez, Castro, Almora and a second tier pitching prospect seems like a good start.
  6. Sign Gavin Floyd and Mike Minor, trade for BJ Upton. 2 SP and a CF - done.
  7. How much money of the $33 million owed to Upton are they sending us?
  8. http://www.21cpw.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/d1Z-thats-not-how-it-works-thats-not-how-any-of-this-works.jpg It's starting to look like it. Every pitcher that signs seems to be jacking up the price the ones still out there. whose price has gotten jacked up aside from a huge AAV rumor about greinke and a rumor about samardzija? zimmerman and price both got what was expected. Price & Zimmerman set the market price and it certainly jacked up Greinke and Samardzija (at least according to the rumors). Cueto looks like he's asking for more than most expected. If Samardzija gets $100 million, I would think Leake and Chen would try to get an extra few million.

  10. Make my original trade ( blockbuster package together for Quintana and Eaton. Baez, Almora/McKinney, Vogelbach, Underwood, ????????) Trade Soler for Salazar. Sign Heyward/Upton/Gordon for RF. Rizzo, Castro, Russell, Bryant, Schwarber, Eaton, Heyward/Upton/Gordon, Montero with a rotation of Arrieta, Lester, Quintana, Salazar, Hendricks, Hammel. Still should have enough money to tweak the bullpen and the bench.
  11. If you're going to sign a FA pitcher, hurry up and do it because the way this market is going Leake, Chen, and Lackey are going to start asking for $100 million too.
  12. I guess it's possible that he confused Adam Eaton with Chris Sale? I've suggested putting a blockbuster package together for Quintana and Eaton. Baez, Almora/McKinney, Vogelbach, Underwood, ???????? Solve CF and SP in one trade. That may not be enough to get Quintana by himself, let alone Quintana and Eaton. That's why I added the ???????. It's a deal certainly worth looking into to solve a couple of our issues without affecting the budget very much.

  14. Your rotation includes Shark? I didn't see how you fit him into the budget.
  15. In today's MLBTR chat: What is Andrew Cashner worth? Not all that much. One year and $8 mil or whatever he's projected at. If you really believe in him and think he's going to deliver a good year, then sure, there's excess value there. But it isn't long-term value b/c he'll be a FA. I mean, he's obviously not a guy who's just sort of worth his contract, but I have a hard time seeing a club parting with a significant prospect asset at this point. If we can get him without parting with a significant prospect, wouldn't he be a decent addition to our rotation depth?
  16. The next labor deal could eliminate the success of the Cubs & Astros for teams in the future: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14214254/what-awaits-negotiations-major-league-baseball-next-labor-deal
  17. Seattle needs a catcher - trade Montero to them for Brad Miller (basically salary relief). Put a package together for Lucroy.
  18. Staying with the "unusual" ideas theme - Javy plays 3B and Bryant goes to CF. He's played the corners (OF), has decent speed and arm, and has no future at 3B because of his height  . Then we can spend all the money on pitching.
  19. Sign Austin Jackson, Justin Ruggiano, and Samardzija. Trade Baez (+?) for Ross or Salazar. Rizzo, Castro, Russell, Bryant, Scwarber, Jackson, Soler, Montero. Rotation - Arrieta, Lester, Shark, Ross/Salazar, Hammel, Hendricks. Bench - Coughlan, Ruggiano, Ross, LaStella, ??? OF versatility with Ruggiano and Jackson able to cover all 3 OF spots, Coughlan/Bryant able to cover corners. Still should be some money and/or prospects to tweak the bullpen, bench, or whatever.
  20. Obviously it would take quite a bit more than Soler (or Baez) to get all three, but I've been pushing to acquire a pitcher and a CF in one deal for awhile (Miller/Teheran plus Maybin, Quintana plus Eaton, etc.).
  21. I'm not a fan of Blackmon. He's only a 2.0-2.5 win player (by both standards) and doesn't play great defense in center, and his overall offensive numbers aren't that impressive even with the Coors effect. If anything Hendricks alone is an overpay for his services when you take age and team control into consideration, IMO. The problem is that every CF we mention has some issues that make it not a perfect fit. From too expensive (Heyward, Fowler, Gardner) to injury affected (Eaton, Span) to mediocre (Blackmon, Maybin). I've accepted the idea that we have enough firepower offensively that we can deal with a mediocre (offensively) CF for a year or two until Almora/McKinney/Happ are ready.
  22. That's more like it. Those rumors of $80 - $85 million for him scared me away. A trade for Ross or a trade for Teheran plus Maybin in addition to signing Shark would look great.
  23. I really, really don't want to give up both guys in a single trade. Normally I wouldn't want to give up both in one deal, but for Fernandez and Ozuna I think it might be worth it.
  24. Are you implying that Maybin and Ross are young? Cameron Maybin will be 29 all of next year. He's not that young. Tyson Ross will be 29 (almost) all of next year. He's not that young. Get a year or two out of Maybin until Almora/McKinney/Happ are ready. Ross at 29 gives us a few years. If Bosio "fixes" Teheran you've got a solid starter for a long time. For the money to spend on a big-time FA, go after Heyward or Upton for RF. Rizzo, Bryant. Schwarber, Heyward/Upton, etc. would provide enough offense to compensate for Maybin in CF.
