  1. If Beane is really looking to sell (and save some money), maybe a deal for Lowrie, Cahill, and Lucroy involving Bote plus other prospects. Big addition to the bench and bullpen/spot starter and they all come off the books after this year. Lowrie adds a lot of versatility and is a switch hitter.
  2. I've been thinking about Jonathan Lucroy. A Treinen/Lucroy package would be ideal (even Cahill added in). Beane seems like he’d potentially value a guy like Bote a little more than others, same with Zagunis. Obviously will take more prospects but think there “could” be building blocks there to something. Oakland has Chapman at 3B, so they don't need Bote. I'm not sure we have the prospects to get Treinen or Treinen plus.
  3. I don't get the lack of respect that you guys (and Maddon) have for Almora. Suggestions of trading him or making him a platoon player are ridiculous. Almora is leading the team in hitting and was hitting 100 points higher than Schwarber last year while Maddon "searched" for a leadoff man.
  4. On Kikuchi: On Sugano: Does this mean he'll actually be able to pitch for a whole season?
  5. Most ML players (especially if they don't have a solid track record) are streaky and end up basically at their norm. It's beautiful to watch when Baez, Russell, and Heyward get in a hot streak, but when the season is over they will probably be back to the numbers we expected.
  6. Hopefully his performance has lowered the price, but probably not.
  7. Offensively we look pretty good, but the rotation sucks.
  8. Seems like every start going in to there’s the tweets and articles by the usual idiots about the 5th inning mental stuff, after every game there’s a mention of the mental stuff (regardless of good or bad start). The Score is all over this mental stuff to. Idk, I’ve seen a lot of it. It’s by the awful hack guys that shouldn’t be taken seriously, but they have a large reach and it’s clearly hit an audience (even if it’s a vocal minority) that now it’s gotten to Yu. Every article in Spring was focused around him being mentally weak and soft and building in the narrative he’s soft if things went bad early too. You have to admit that Yu hasn't done anything on the field to disprove the "mentally weak and soft" label. Sports is a really big deal in Chicago, so these guys need to come up with a "story" whether it's reporting facts or opinions. It's even worse with Bears' coverage where we get "stories" for months before training camp and weeks of speculation before the draft.
  9. Probably good enough to be in the middle/back of our rotation.
  10. More dongs. With some people on base.
  11. Between Darvish being injured and lousy all year, Quintana being mediocre and inconsistent, and Chatworth being unbelievably lucky so far, it's going to be hard going on an extended win streak. Hoping that our inconsistent offense and a great bullpen will carry us is hard to imagine.
  12. From MLBTR: The Cubs have designated outfielder Efren Navarro for assignment, tweets Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. In his stead, the club has selected the contract of catcher Chris Gimenez. Fellow catcher Victor Caratini has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a related move. We bring up Gimenez to fix Darvish, but apparently he's a little late.
  13. So let's say Baltimore were to take most/all of Heyward's contract (and his weak pop outs to the SS behind 3B)....how much more in layer compensation would the Cubs need to come up with? For instance, if Addy, Monty and Alzolay is a huge overpay straight up...is it a huge overpay if they took all/most of Heyward's contract with those three? And would that make Machado as a rental much more appealing knowing it frees up tons of years/cash, most likely for Harper? I'm not relly good with the contract/$$$ stuff. Thoughts? The Cubs can dump Heyward and his contract on the Orioles in a trade for Machado if they include Russell, Hendricks, and Contreras.
  14. There is a slight chance, just like there is a slight chance of me winning the power ball lottery.
  15. It could happen, but I think it would need to be expanded to include another useful player coming to the Cubs.
  16. Obviously he's not a fit for this team.
  17. Heyward gets 2 hits in a game early in the season and Maddon has him lead off for the next 155 games.
  18. Maybe get him some playing time at the ML level to increase his trade value at the deadline.
  19. Now who is going to replace Leonys Martin on our WS roster?
  20. I'm a big Almora fan, but I would have loved for the Cubs to sign him at that price.
  21. If Jake gets more than Darvish, then Boras is a miracle worker. Also, Jake can pick where he wants to live for the next 6 years, but he won't be getting paid for that long.
  22. I'd just head to camp with what we have right now. Save some room under the cap in case we need additional pitching depth mid year. Yeah, no reason to make any other moves now. Getting Darvish pretty much puts us in the drivers seat to get deep into the playoffs, if not to the WS as things stand now.
  23. I think you have to side with the players to get as much as they can because they have a limited career. The owners are making hundreds of millions per year (win or lose) and when they decide to sell they make an obscene profit on their original investment.
  24. It could have a lot to do with the disparity between the "rich" teams and the "poor" teams both in finances and ability. The "rich" teams have the most money to spend, but don't have the need to spend because of the luxury tax because they already are playoff bound. The "poor" teams have less money to spend and more holes to fill, but they know signing a $100+ million star won't put them into the playoffs.
