    Actually I don't think there were any suggested returns. It was a discussion about trading off our ML roster because the ml are pretty bare and posters were suggesting Happ and/or Almora and I posted that Russell and Schwarber ould be included because their "names" might get us a better return and we could have in house replacements. wait, are you seriously suggesting that major league assets should be traded because minor league depth isn’t as strong as it was when those major league guys were in the minors? I think the discussion had to do with getting a young, controlled TOR starter (i.e. Archer, Stroman, etc.). Obviously we don't have the ml prospects to compete with other teams offering 2 or 3 top prospects plus a couple other good prospects, so the discussion turned to the ML roster.

    You weren't the only one. Posters jumped all over me when I suggested that he should be traded while he still had a decent reputation. My other suggestion was that we should have traded Schwarber when he was the second coming of Babe Ruth. Now that he's a platoon LF/DH, his value has dropped too. if posters jumped on you for suggesting these trades, it must have been for your suggested returns Actually I don't think there were any suggested returns.     It makes a lot more sense to hold onto him and pray that his hitting is affected by his hand injury I was stupid and didn't want them to trade him last offseason because I figured 2017 was just an off year and he'd after more value after he rebounded. This time next year, he'll be Chris Giminez on offense and will have also developed gout or syphilis or something and will suck on defense. You weren't the only one.     i don’t even necessarily disagree with the idea behind it, but i think it’s absolutely true that part of the appeal of letting strop bat there is because of how fun it would be and how much the team would like it if he got the run in or even got a hit. joe likes to put his players in unique situations and the players like it too. i have a lot more qualms with letting strop pitch another inning than i do with letting him take the at bat and trying to get a hit. yea. the sandwiched day game at DC with the threat of a hurricane w/o any decency from the MLB front office, I can see Maddon wanting to let them have some fun. And maybe Joe never intended him to pitch anymore. Quit defending Maddon. He made a stupid baseball decision that could affect the rest of the season.

    Strop has never recorded more than 6 outs in a game, which makes the move more idiotic. Maddon has done a great job most of the time, but every so often he has to do something outlandish to try to uphold his "genius" status. Hopefully LaStella comes back strong after his day off.

    Well, goodbye Rob Z and Luke Farrell. I'd say we'll miss you, but then I'd be lying. I don't think anybody will miss Terrance Gore, Taylor Davis, or Bobby Wilson either when their day comes.

    It's nice having a super competent front office. I think I'm finally used to it after an entire lifetime of mediocrity there. Nice comeback after the Yu/Chatwood offseason.

    We all know that the bottom line is that all sports are loaded with racists, bigots, misogynists, and homophobes from the players up to the owners. Obviously some of the players aren't smart enough to avoid putting their hatred out in public, but then again they weren't hired for their brains. They think it makes it a little more acceptable with the POTUS and VPOTUS in DC tweeting and making vile statements weekly.

    Carefully find the right spots for Bote to be successful and then trade him over the winter before he loses all trade value.

    Chatwood - definitely Darvish - probably just because so much of the perceived value is tied to the first couple seasons Morrow - eh, maybe. It’s not too unexpected though and he’s excellent when out there Cishek - sign 5 of him I want Arrieta instead of this broken Yu. Arrieta + Cahill instead of Yu + Chatwood savings of 7.5 million this year and plenty more in the future.

    I totally agree with you. Let's see what happens with the rest of this year, but pitching certainly needs to be addressed in the off season. Nah. That's what the trades are for. That's what I meant since trades happen during the off season. Myy point was to see which of our players would have the most trade value by seeing what happens the rest of the way and seeing what happens to other teams to affect their thought process on trades.

    Nobody is going to take Heyward's contract and if we have to throw in a ton of cash, then what's the point?

    Monsters like the Steinbrenners and the Ricketts are a necessary evil when it comes to our sportsball teams, and should only ever be begrudgingly tolerated at BEST. They're easier to tolerate (or admire) when they own my sports team. Meanwhile all of those other filthy rich owners are claiming they can't afford to build winning teams.

    and also greed. When I was young, everybody hated the Yankees because Steinbrenner bought all the players he wanted. I admired him for putting his money on the field instead of in his pocket or using it for a tax break. Meanwhile I suffered through miserable Cub seasons while Wrigley used the Cubs to write off profits from his gum company.

    If somehow we could convince Kershaw to opt out after this year and pay him 6 years/185-200 million, we might be better off than Harper at 10yrs./350 million. Kershaw certainly fills a bigger need than Harper, especially with the emergence of Bote possibly moving Bryant to the OF.

    The comparisons that I heard are more like a healthy Bryant rather than Schwarber. he doesn't walk nearly enough to warrant such a comp He's expected to have a higher BA than Schwarber with the same power. The walks may come with maturity.
