  1. You can't script this kind of comedy. I'm glad I wasn't the only one. Im glad Im not the one filling Jim Hendry's holes. *sigh*
  2. yeah I did edit above saying I think its wise to keep JJ. I think there are alot of teams looking for big bats that are capable of out bidding us as far as prospects go.
  3. The playoffs are a crapshoot and lesser teams can win, but that does not make it okay to go into the season as a weaker team than the competition, especially not the lesser paid competition. Being a bit better than the rest of the division on paper does not guarantee a title. They need to construct a team that is good enough to not just win a weak NL Central, but to withstand a surprise surge from a potentially lucky team. Im not sure how much better we could get than that, I dont think Schimdt wants to be in Chicago or at least not at a price/length of contract, that would be acceptable and I dont think that Zito is the answer. I dont think Lilly is any worse than the other availible options on the freeagent market (other than Schimdt or Zito). Im not sure how you would upgrade the everyday lineup any better without a huge trade and we dont have the prospects to deal. I just dont see to many ways to improve upon that lineup. **edit** I do think that the ofense is better with JJ playing CF and Lugo playing SS than with Lugo in CF and Izturis at SS, but sadly Jim loves Izy
  4. And just a couple of years ago he was out there just for his contract. Amazing. Wasnt he just put on revocable waivers? Meaning he could be pulled back, they were just seeking a deal after the trade deadline? I cant remember. No, it was irrevocable waivers. wow that is amazing
  5. I think they would contend, but I don't think you can go into the playoffs with that team and realistically think they could win it all. Of course, you could have said the same thing about the Cards this past season, and that Cubs team is better "on paper" than the 06 Cards. I would agree with that-I think that team is the best team at the division at this point although not by that much, and would be one of the lesser teams in the playoffs-they would have to get hot late. The playoffs are always a bit of a crapshoot. All kinds of things can happen during the course of the season to make the team stronger or weaker. Players you think are going to be weak having career years, and players you thought were going to be great having aweful years. Then there is possible trades before the trading deadline, and there is always the possiblilty that some of our minor league kids come up huge. That lineup would be acceptable to me going into the year, cause I think Lugo becomes the everyday SS sooner rather than later and I think Murton puts up better power numbers than last year. Also I think DeRosa puts up similar numbers to last year at 2b.

  7. So why didn't 8 for Soriano get same reaction? If we do it for Soriano please do it for Schmidt. Because pitchers are a great deal more fragile than hitters.
  8. People keep coming up with trade senerios to get rid of Izturis but its not going to happen Hendry loves Isturis, he's your SS for 2006 I think, despite the overwhelming hate for him (here on these boards, not that I disagree at all). Hendry just sees the "gold glove" *sigh*.
  9. I just dont think there is anyway they trade him to a division rival, if at all.
  10. LOL... wait I thought Prior was his neighbor? WTH he has Wood living on one side of him and Prior on the other? That has to give us an advantage. I think we are going to wind up with Lilly and Marquis though *puke*.
  11. we probably need to spend that 10-12 mil on pitching.
  12. I've been pining for DeJesus for many months, but losing Barrett to get him completely defeats the purpose. Well, there's little else to trade. Adding a younger, OBP-heavy lefty bat in CF would be a fair swap for Barrett. In my slap-happy scenario above, we'd move Jones and Barrett for Jennings and DeJesus. It's a pipe dream, but that's a net gain, IMO. The Rockies are set at the catching position, they have Chris Iannetta (really good catching prospect) who played some towards the end of last year, I dont think they would want to block him with Barrett.
  13. I think people need to face the sad reality that Hendry is not going to get rid of Izturis for anyone, he loves Izturis.
  14. Those are independent league teams UK? Just currious.
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6226820 Yeah, sign me up for JJ for JJ. What happened to Murton, do they not know that he's on our roster?
  16. Yeah but we dont even know what was wrong with that shoulder. Its not like he had a defined rotator cuff tear or something of that nature. It doesnt seem like he's had the type of injuries you cant come back from.
  17. Actually, talk to most athletic trainers or physical therapists and they will tell you that ALL pitchers throw with an unnatural motion. That not withstanding, KW is considered the definition of bad mechanics. and Prior was considered as having "perfect mechanics" by most experts, so what does that tell you? It tells me that he was overworked, took some direct trauma to vital areas for pitching, altered his mechanics to compensate, and hasn't been the same since. I wasnt exactly sure what it meant myself thats why I left it open to interpretation lol... I guess it means that mechanics arent the only thing that can ruin a pitcher. I dont know why so many people have written off Prior as never being able to return to his 2003 form. Im really hoping he can. He's never really had "major" surgery. He's had a very Cublike string of incredibly bad luck.

  19. He has a very heavy accent and is fairly hard to understand through it at times. He said all the things you would expect him to say, it was a short thing.
  20. This is going to start at 4 pm est? Is it going to be carried by Comcast Sportsnet Chicago or WGN? Anyone know?
  21. Vance wrote: It may not be a matter of offering him X amount of dollars, he may be dead set on staying on the west coast. I hope Hendry at least tries to get him with a bigger offer than LA or Seattle can offer. Im not crazy about giving Schimdt a long term contract and over paying either but its much more attractive to me than signing mediocrity, which we already have plenty of.
  22. I wonder if maybe he was playing injured last year, I'd definantly want an MRI before I traded for him.
  23. You'd rather him reach his potential with someone else? I like Pie, we have a good hitting coach in Iowa and I think he'll come along nicely. Maybe the new major league hitting coach can help him with plate discipline in spring training. That said I think he needs at least 1 more season at AAA before he's ready. btw someone mentioned that they never moved him to RF, thats true, he did play some RF in spring training last year though and looked really good there defensively, he has a great arm.
