  1. Expected, but great to hear. I can't wait to see how he does and see if the bat speed is for real. Definitely. For what it's worth, Jim Callis did a Baseball America podcast yesterday (8/12) and said that in his opinion, Baez has far and away the best bat speed of anyone in the 2011 draft. Hope he's right.
  2. @mlbtraderumors MLB Trade Rumors Cubs Agree To Terms With First Rounder Baez bit.ly/oJUavZ #mlb
  3. jimcallisBA Jim Callis #Cubs sign 5th-rder Tayler Scott for $279,950. Slot = $157.5k. Arizona HS RHP throws 90-93, flashes good breaker. #Arizona commit. #mlbdraft
  4. B-Jax is John Sickels's 'Prospect of the Day' on Minorleagueball.com. Here's a snippet from the write-up, including John's general prediction: Link to full article: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/8/9/2352271/prospect-of-the-day-brett-jackson-of-chicago-cubs I'd be perfectly happy with something akin to a rich man's Drew Stubbs.
  5. On today's (8/3) ESPN's Baseball Today podcast, Keith Law was discussing Ben Revere of the Twins and then said (paraphrasing), "If you're a Cubs fan, Ben Revere is what you hope Matt Szczur turns out to be. Both are fast, play CF, and have slappy swings with no power." He went on to say that the "big difference" between them currently is that Revere is better CFer than Szczur. You can listen to the podcast for free, the blurb about Revere and Szczur is at around the 24-minute mark. Again, just confirming Law's impression that Szczur has no power or patience whatsoever, minor league numbers to the contrary.
  6. Really liking Wang's K:BB ratio. Would someone mind giving a quick scouting report on him? How projectable is he? Where might he rank among the Cubs' pitching prospects at this point? Thanks guys.
  7. Seems like B-Jax has really picked up the power production over the past week or so.
  8. This basically sums up my thoughts exactly. A team that is 42-65 with by far the second-worst run differential in the entire NL should not be deliberately hoarding a bunch of veterans based on some misguided delusion that "it will all better in 2012." If the offers the Cubs are receiving for guys like Byrd, Pena, and Baker really are that bad, then fine, no reason to just give them away. But completely closing the door to any and all negotiations would be incredibly detrimental to this franchise, IMO. I worry Hendry is holding onto all these guys because he's going to get another shot at it in 2012 and just wants to keep his job and is willing to roll the dice with a bunch of pricy mid-30s veterans all having "bounceback" years next year.
  9. FWIW, Ken Rosenthal is tweeting that the Angels have interest in A-Ram to plug their chasm at third base.
  10. Buster Olney just tweated that the Pirates are snooping around for "veteran outfield" help that can provide some offense. Would be nice if the Bucs had some, you know, actual money or finances such that they could at least show interest in a Byrd, Sori, Fuku, etc.
  11. For what it's worth, John Sickels does not have this Dallas Buck character ranked among the D'backs' top 20 prospects... http://www.minorleagueball.com/2008/8/1/584864/arizona-diamondbacks-top-2
  12. Jesus, TWO outs at 3rd base, guys? Come on.
  13. Starting to take more pitches now...I'm likin' it.
  14. I mean he advanced the runner, but man that swing looked bad.
  15. I've officially given up on Fuku. Sucks, but it just looks hopeless at this point.
