  1. Agreed. I mean I like Crawford and all - he'd definitely be an upgrade in CF - but we're talking about a guy who walked 32 times last year and had an OPS+ of 117. Good, yes. Great? Good enough to gut your pitching staff for? Not quite, IMHO. I think Crawford's biggest asset is his age (25), and that's why TB will likely get someone to overpay for him (via trade).
  2. How about we throw in Theriot and they throw in Matt Antonelli.
  3. What other options do the Red Sox have in RF? I imagine they'll stick Ellsbury in CF and of course leave Manny in left. I guess I don't quite get why Drew's name is being brought up aside from the fact that yes, he is a RF (and yes, the Cubs happen to need one). Seems to be about the end of that connection.
  4. While he wouldn't do much for OBP problems, he has tremendous power for a SS (27 HRs and a pretty mind-boggling 44 doubles). Plus at 27, he's in his prime. His .840 OPS away from San Diego would definitely interest me.
  5. Think where Paxson really messed up was drafting Thomas instead of Aldridge, who basically looks like everything the Bulls need right now. And yea, the Bulls really aren't going to do anything with the 'core' they have now. The sooner they trade one (or more) of their big 3 for a real superstar, the better.
  6. FWIW, Jason Stark said on SportsCenter a few hours ago that word around the league is Scott Boras is seeking a 12-year deal. That's right. A 12-year deal for a 32-year old. You just can't make this stuff up.
  7. I totally agree with this. $25 million on A-Rod will help this team a heckuva lot more than $15 million scattered around various places.
  8. I'd definitely consider him for 10/per, but it sounds like he wants more than that. Schilling put a 122 ERA+, which would've tied Lilly for the best in our rotation this year (ahead of Z and Hill). Considering we're paying 10/per for Lilly's 122 ERA+ and 18/per for Z's 118 ERA+, I really wouldn't mind a 1 or 2 year deal with Schil provided there were some incentives based on innings pitched (my biggest concern). Of course, I doubt this happens regardless (our money is better off spent elsewhere) and he's not worth 13/per IMO.
  9. We could probably get Burrell with a package like this (if not less)...they pretty much just want to get rid of his $14 million contract any way possible.
  10. There's very little point in paying $10-15 million for an OPS+ of 114 (from someone who will be 34 on Opening Day) when you can pay $440k for an OPS+ of 100 (and who will be 26 on Opening Day). Plus, one of these players is like to regress as they age, while the other is entering his prime.
  11. He can still rope a few token foul balls down the RF line with the best of 'em.
  12. I have a really bad feeling that we're just going to basically 'stand pat' and do little if anything this off-season, and not just because of the ownership situation; for some reason I get this feeling that Hendry thinks we're "there" and that another full season under Lou (with a healthy roster) will do the trick. I sincerely hope that's not the case, but for some reason I fear we'll be a little complacent this winter.
  13. CF or SS. Murton ain't great, but he'll give us an .800-.820 OPS in RF if he plays everday. CF and SS on the other hand need drastic offensive upgrades. Personally, I'd prefer to upgrade SS offensively via trade, and let Pie play in CF.
  14. $16 million for a 33-year old corner outfielder who posted a 114 OPS+ doesn't seem like a great deal to me. The pricetag would have to be substantially lower for me to consider a good deal when we could just put Murton in RF for $400k or whatever.
  15. Was his major decline in BB rate and SLG% this year due to that oblique injury, or it was age (or both)? That would kinda scare me considering he's now 35. Then again, maybe his postseason so far is showing that his relatively sub-par regular season was mostly injury-related.
  16. The Rockies had the best record in the NL since the middle of May you know... Im just saying.. In that case I stand corrected- I'm probably like many others in that I've been totally preoccupied with what the Rockies have done since the middle of September that I've largely overlooked their prior performance.
  17. Think that team was also better start to finish than this Rockie team. As I recall, the Marlins had the best record in MLB after May 1st or something like that (some date quite early on in the season) - I remember the FOX announcers pimping that stat over and over again. Think it was one of those situations where Jack McKeon 'blew up' in April and May when the team stunk and their record was lousy, and pretty much cruised from then on.
  18. My only issue with Tulowitzki being ahead of Braun was his performance away from Coors Field- .720 OPS, 94 OPS+.
  19. Tim Hudson second for NL Cy Young? And Roy Halladay did not have a better season than Beckett, Carmona or Santana. A 3.71 ERA and 1.24 WHIP does not get you in the top 2 for a Cy Young award.
  20. Wait - are these your predictions of what will happen or how you'd vote if you were a member of the AP? Because some of these are a bit bizarre.
  21. And generally, I'm a big fan of basebal players in their contract years. Andruw Jones is one of the few big-name players I can think of who didn't post near-career numbers in his contract season.
  22. In 2007- Theriot: .668 OPS Renteria: .860 OPS Tejada: .799 OPS I mean really. I don't think anyone's claiming that a guy like Tejada is necessarily a great value over the long term, but he's certainly an upgrade over the Riot for the near term. I mean I like Theriot and all (how you can argue with this GRIT factor) but we could certainly use an upgrade offensively while the rest of our corps is still relatively near their primes.
