  1. The cardinals were only planning on using Looper as a stop gap until Mulder came back... so they weren't really planning on him starting for 100+ innings... but at the same time, they should have been prepared in cause mulder wasn't ready at all.
  2. Not. Even. Close. That's what I was thinking. It's not like Guzman has proven himself to being a great pitcher who can avoid injuries. If they were moving Lilly or someone like that to the pen, I could understand the analogy a bit better, but even then, it's not close.
  3. That was one of my favorite Walker moments! ditto... and if I recall correctly, that game was on my birthday. edit: happy 25th birthday to me...
  4. I never understand the hate for Angel Pagan. I think he's a pretty good player who gets the job done. He has a lot of room to improve in terms of batting over the long haul though, but he seems to be pretty clutch.
  5. If he is damaging livers, he must be doing something wrong! Like spreading hepatitis? valid point.
  6. Mazzone and Duncan couldn't straighten out Marquis. Didn't he pitch well at the beginning for both and then unravel? it's different this time -- we're due My Card fan buddy keeps warning me that Marquis is going to collapse as the season goes on. Marquis could win the rest of the games he pitches this season, and Cardinal fans will still say that... and once he finally loses a game, they'll be like, "See... I told you so!"
  7. If he is damaging livers, he must be doing something wrong!
  8. but how many pitchers in the Cardinals system have shoulders like wellemeyer? my guess is zero!
  9. Yeah, I agree! I think the Cubs will fire Rothschild. that makes my brain hurt success... she's MINE! It seems like every day, I'll see someone post something of authenticity (like bruce or someone siting a very reliable source), and immediately afterwards, someone posts something that they THINK, and it goes 100% against what has been said as "law". So it is your job to fill in that vacancy if such occurrence does not occur? Not my job... it's my duty!
  11. Yeah, I agree! I think the Cubs will fire Rothschild.
  12. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned (at least that I saw) the fact that Z is a switch hitter... I know it's different than throwing, but he's shown that he's pretty ambidextrous.
  13. any relation to Ray?? The Mets announcers on last night's telecast wondered the same thing, but they didn't know.A quick search on wikipedia turned up nothing.
  14. Somebody really needs to photoshop a beard and a red hat on Johan Santana.... :D I don't claim to be any good at it, but: http://www.jms2k.com/junk/santana.jpg
  15. I've been trying to get the Cubs offense on the Cy Young ballot for a while now. They make mediocre pitchers look amazing!
  16. keep in mind, I DO like Wuertz, and I think he's played well this year and last year, but there are still times when I cringe when he's on the mound.
  17. I think they'll bring up fontenot and then trade izturis and jones for Arod and then Zambrano for Johan Santa.
  18. I don't know about Wuertz. Haven't we seen this act from him before? I seem to remember him starting out good one other year and then tanking. I'm not sure I would give him all that much more time. He seems to be unable to maintain any consistency over the long haul. Watch out soul! The ONE thing i've learned in my short time here is that you don't say ANYTHING bad about Wuertz. The amount of man-love for that guy is enormous here!
  19. calling Whine-One-One now...
  20. could somebody staple, nail, duct tape, etc... Murton's bat to his shoulder on the first pitch?
  21. what if we can spin Z off for a bat and somehow get someone like Ian Snell from the Pirates? He's a decent pitcher stuck on a bad team... and the pirates will most likely be selling at the deadline...
  22. it should never take 9 pitches to get a pitcher out.
  23. ... and I'm glad Zambrano has decided to start emulating Marquis. unfortunately, he's emulating the 2006 version.
  24. seriously... according to gameday, 80% of the "balls" are pretty good pitches... and gameday is usually fairly accurate...
  25. I don't have time to read this whole thread (i'm at work), and I'm "watching" the game via gameday, but I just wanted to know if anyone has seen or heard anything about this umps strike zone. The hit by pitch on Sanchez looked like it was on the border... so he must have been hugging the plate, and now with Bay up, here's the pitches according to gameday: http://www.jms2k.com/junk/ballorstrike.gif
