  1. Defensive improvement will never ever result in 4-5 wins.
  2. My list is different from everybody else's, it seems... 1. Mets 2. Phillies 3. Padres 4. Diamondbacks 5. Rockies 6. Cubs 7. Dodgers 8. Brewers 9. Braves ------------- 10. Astros 11. Reds 12. Nationals 13. Marlins 14. Giants 15. Cardinals 16. Pirates
  3. I think that you're dramatically overrating the Dodgers.
  4. Didn't the Royals have an all lefty rotation a few years ago? At least at the start of the season.
  5. I think the DH is going to make the AL stronger just about every single year. Not saying the NL should implement it, but I don't think the bridge can ever be truly gapped with that in place.
  6. Thats a nice rotation. Except Marquis is in it and Lieber isn't I think people are constantly forgetting that Jon Leiber is on the team.
  7. But guys, we HAVE to trade Rich Hill as a part of this or we'd have too many lefties.
  8. He hit .293 which would've been towards the top for this team. Not to mention the 60+ SBs he brings to the table. I'd rather have Pie in CF just for the sake of developing a young guy by letting him play. But if he goes, I'd take Pierre over w/e trash you have in mind (Byrd?) any day. http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/watchdog/blog/MorganJoe2.06-Headshot.jpg
  9. I think both of the Orioles trades are just inevitabilities. It's still annoying to have to wait.
  10. And Jon Leiber hasn't had his press conference yet. Can't take away from Jon's moment in the sun.
  11. Most years their OPS is probably going to be similar. I don't give a crap about batting average. Assuming that Jones reverts back to pre-2007 they're pretty even. However, I don't think that will happen, so Ichiro.
  12. So based on your "numbers" Theriot is better, but you would rather have Green, but Green is god awful. OK, you've convinced me. Because I know it's not just about the numbers, but these guys are insisting on me including numbers into it. I dont think Theriot is good, but I dont think Greene is much of an upgrade. You gotta take into account future projections as well. It is just about the numbers. I don't give two craps what you remember seeing on TV. And future projections? Jesus Christ this isn't worth the time. Is that you, Meph? This isn't funny. It's funny how 4 posts above you just said "STATISTICS DON'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY." And now you say "it is just about the numbers." Ok smarty you know everything yet you just completely contradict yourself in a matter of minutes. Sarchasm: The gap between... eh, whatever his sig says. Statistics do tell the whole story. I was imitating people who like to think they know a lot about baseball but don't.
  13. I haven't heard anything about Cedeno having trouble with partying.
  14. Good call. I forgot all about that rumor. Still, I don't think Hendry would be comfortable with removing Marquis from the rotation given his contract.

  16. I'll save you the time!!!! Greene vs. Theriot BA- .254 vs. .266 (hmmmm) OBP- .291 vs. .326 (hmmmm) BB- 32 vs. 49 K- 128 vs. 50 (ouch) SB- 4 vs. 28 (comparable to the HR's since it shows what kind of player they are) HR- 27 vs. 3 (this is the only thing Greene is that much better than Theriot)... power #s In my opinion I would rather have Greene than Theriot. But based on numbers Greene is god awful. An OBP less than .300!!!!! Are you kidding me? Yes Greene plays good defense and hits for more power. But Theriot isnt that type of player. There is no way Greene is more of an upgrade over Theriot than Figgins is over Lofton. Greene plays half his games in Petco Park which is like the Bizzaro Coors Field. If he didn't have to play 81 games there, his stats would look much more impressive. His career numbers on the road are .280/.335/.515. So yes, he's a much bigger upgrade over Theriot than Figgins is over Lofton. Statistics don't tell the whole story!!!
  17. The idea isn't to keep those four. The idea is to use those four in a trade that would be more of an upgrade than from Lofton "up" to Figgins... Theriot up to any real shortstop is a much larger improvement than Figgins would be over Lofton, if he is one at all. Let me guess, you think Khalil Greene over Theriot is more of an upgrade than Figgins over Lofton?? Cuz there arent any other shortstops out there that are available. And Greene is awful! Yes, Greene over Theriot is a much bigger upgrade than Figgins over Lofton. Much bigger. I'd pull some stats to prove it, but you probably saw all four players on TV a few times. How could I argue against that? I'll save you the time!!!! Greene vs. Theriot BA- .254 vs. .266 (hmmmm) OBP- .291 vs. .326 (hmmmm) BB- 32 vs. 49 K- 128 vs. 50 (ouch) SB- 4 vs. 28 (comparable to the HR's since it shows what kind of player they are) HR- 27 vs. 3 (this is the only thing Greene is that much better than Theriot)... power #s In my opinion I would rather have Greene than Theriot. There is no way Greene is more of an upgrade over Theriot than Figgins is over Lofton. What the heck does that even mean? Your opinion is wrong by every relevant measure. Here's some statistics that matter. The ones you posted, other than OBP, are pointless and don't tell us anything. Greene vs. Theriot in 2007 OPS- .759 vs. .672 SLG- .468 vs .346 In Petco Park. Greene wins. I don't care about his batting average or how many bases he stole and neither should you.
  18. I know it's pretty popular to bash David Eckstein because of all the undeserved hype he gets, but I wish people sould stop pretending he's Ryan Theriot. Eckstein produces pretty decent offense for a shortstop. If we were to upgrade from Riot to Eckstein it'd be significant.
  19. I can easily see a Juan Pierre deal. Easily. I think Hendry thinks he was a bright spot in 2006, not one of the reasons we sucked.

  21. I would very much like to have him on board assuming it was for a small cost.
  22. Saying that he's always signed at the last minute every year seems to imply that he's always been marginal. Kenny Lofton is a borderline Hall of Famer.
  23. Coming here and making posts that are fairly obviously wrong then insulting people that disagree with you isn't going to make you many friends. There's smarter Cubs fans here: http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=ml-cubs. You'll fit right in.
