  1. Why dont you prove Hill cant handle pressure situations, and is mentally weak? Rich Hill Runners on 1st and 3rd-hitters had a .449 OPS A pressure situation Runners in scoring position hitters had a .680 OPS A pressure situation Close and late situation hitters had a .438 OPS A pressure situation Runner on 3rd base hitters had a .443 OPS A pressure situation Innings 7-9 hitters had a .536 OPS A pressure sitation So show me your proof He looked flustered too much and I didn't like his facial expressions!
  2. Nothing like making comments about a pitchers mental state, which you have no idea what it is. Hill was in his first full season in the majors, and was a top 30 pitcher in the entire ML's. If you dont think thats good then I dont know what to tell you. You said it much better than I did.
  3. The Marshall bit was complete speculation on my part. Don't worry about it.
  4. You're as qualified as I am to discuss Soriano's mental approach to the game. He put up the numbers, that's all I care about. I'd prefer he batted fifth, but it's not the end of the world if he leads off again.
  5. Teams that he would be the best or pretty much as good as their number one starter? Washington (best) Florida (best) Kansas City (best) St. Louis (best) Texas (best) Mets (best, assuming Pedro isn't healthy) Baltimore (whether Bedard is there or not, they're pretty comparable) San Francisco (We don't really know what to expect from Lincecum right now. He's on the same level as Cain at the moment) Pittsburgh (As good as Snell) Oakland (depending on the health of Harden) And of course The Cubs. He was probably our best pitcher last year. Now I'd love to hear you tell me the teams he would be the 4th best starter on, since I believe it was you that called him a #4 starter.
  6. I'm not advocating for Marlon Byrd either. And Byrd's SLG% was much higher last year. Stewart didn't crack .400.
  7. You can't expect to keep your credibility after saying something like that.
  8. Haren's good, but I don't think he would've been worth the price.
  9. The biggest downside I see is that he's not very good. Not worth taking a look at. He's got absolutely no pop left in his bat.
  10. Luis Aparacio is the answer I was going to give. He gets my nod, though I'm sure there's someone else out there.
  11. Lilly was very hittable? His WHIP was 1.14. He didn't allow a lot of hits and he didn't allow a lot of walks. So no, he wasn't very hittable. Hill was among the league leaders in strikeouts and also put up an outstanding WHIP. And we're not talking about Marquis and Marshall. You said we needed "#2 starters." Lilly or Hill would be #1's on a lot of staffs around baseball. And they'd be #2's on almost all of them. Lilly will probably regress, but there's absolutely no reason to think Hill won't get better. And no, what happened in the playoffs isn't relevant and it doesn't discount their accomplishments during the regular season. They picked bad times to have rough starts and it's as simple as that.
  12. So he should completely change his approach because he's the leadoff hitter? Otherwise he's selfish? His OPS was right near .900 last year. He's fine. And he's done absolutely everything Lou asked him to.
  13. Did you actually watch them the rest of the season? I'd have to assume no.
  14. Bad baserunners? Our offense isn't great, but that has nothing to do with it. Who is a bad base runner? Soriano? For like a month at the beginning of the season. I wish we took more pitches, but this is not a terrible offense. There's one guy in it who is a terrible hitter, and he'd be in the lineup whether we got Roberts or not. And for as much as you talk about taking pitches, Roberts would be replacing the guy who took the most pitches on the Cubs last year.
  15. Colvin is ridiculously far off from being major league ready.
  16. But there is going to be a measurable gain in offense and there's no reason to think there won't be.
  17. Interesting post over at gatewayredbirds.com...
  18. Even if we brought Roberts, we'd still be relying on Pie and Soto. Fukudome is going to be much better than Jones/Floyd. And again with needing a #1a/#2 starter? We've got Rich Hill, Carlos, Zambrano, and Ted Lilly. We don't need starters for the front of the rotation. We need some for the back.
  19. Or maybe we could get Marquis' contract off the books?
  20. I could totally see this being some terrible Sean Marshall-Marlon Byrd swap.
  21. I might be the only one, but I'm firmly entrenched in the Lieber camp. He's a dramatic improvement over Dempster or Marquis. I don't know about dramatic, I would say marginal improvement. However I would rather they stay away and give the kids a shot. Eh, I think Lieber's a pretty safe bet to be league average. Dempster, on the other hand, is just about a guarantee to be well below average.
  22. Thank God, hopefully this is finally over and Cedeno gets a shot at short!!! Sean Gallagher, too. Yeah, why even attempt to go after leiber when you have someone like Gallagher or Marshall that you could give a shot. I'd love the back end of the rotation to be Gallagher and Lieber.
