  1. If the Roberts deal happens, DeRosa becomes the #1 option to play SS, IMO. Probably the weakest of the 3 defensively, but the big boost on offense makes it a no brainer for me, especially considering none of them sparkle on defense. Unfortunately I don't think Cubs management sees it the same way. I think DeRo could see some time at short, but certainly not more than Theriot.
  2. Theriot is not impatient. He just isnt a good hitter yet. It is not impatient when you take the first pitch down the middle, take the 2nd pitch down the middle, then are forced to hit the 3rd pitch down the middle or you'd strike out. They know he is not a power threat so they give him lots of pitches to hit, but if you have 2 strikes you need to swing at the 3rd one. So you're giving him credit for consistently taking two easily hittable pitches and then not being able to do anything with the third easily hittable pitch? Are you serious?
  3. But he didn't and that's been proven. He wasn't a power hitter so he didn't have a good slugging percentage. He wasn't a leadoff hitter so he didn't post a high OBP. We've established he takes no pitches at all. So what in the world is your argument here? I'm saying he has a good eye at the plate. Way better than Cedeno's. And one stat can prove that. Theriot has just about the same amount of walks as strikeouts. That is very rare at the ML level. Only a handfull can do that. Besides guys like Bonds, Helton and Pujols who have 10x more Walks than Strikeouts, it seems to be that most major leaguers have like double the strikeouts. Cedeno has 5x as many strikeouts as walks, and that is an understatement. That stat proves... nothing. It's worthless and there's no reason to care about it. All that proves is that he doesn't strike out much because he's grounding out on the first or second pitch so dang frequently. He doesn't hit for power. He doesn't get on base. He doesn't take a lot of pitches. Okay, maybe he has a good eye. Who cares if it doesn't translate into results?

  5. Plus Theriot brings a lot more to the table than Cedeno. 10x better plate discipline. Umm, Theriot led the team in 1 pitch outs. Which player faced more pitches per AB? Cedeno. P/PA: Cedeno: 3.68 Theriot: 3.53 This is based on last year's mlb numbers. Cedeno only had 80 at bats. You also gotta look at OBP. Theriot's OBP of .326 is actually really good when you only bat .266. This means he took a lot of walks. Cedeno's OBP was like .230. Theriot's career P/PA is better than Cedeno's. Theriot is a very patient hitter, one of the only few on the Cubs. It's just when he swung at a ball, he didn't miss it often like most of the other Cubs, so his pitches per at bat were less. But like Nevin said, sometimes it is better to swing and miss or foul it off than hit it. I'm speechless.
  6. Plus Theriot brings a lot more to the table than Cedeno. 10x better plate discipline. Umm, Theriot led the team in 1 pitch outs. If that is true than I would be completely shocked. Because everytime I saw him bat he would be taking pitches till the count was full. That might be true but I still bet his pitches per at bat was more than most on the team. You'd be wrong.
  7. Dude, what are you talking about? Marmol's value is not higher than Hill's or Bedard's. Not even close. That trade proposal of yours would be a gigantic disaster. Are you really getting fooled this easily by Bedard's 2007 season? He's good, but not that good. Hill is locked up for cheap. Bedard is expensive and only under contract for 2 more years. Not to mention he's almost 29 and has yet to pitch 200 innings in a season. Is Bedard better than Hill? Yes. Is he so much better that we offer a ridiculous package like that? Not even close. What are we giving up exactly? Sorry I used "we".... What are the Cubs giving up exactly? I think Hill will be a good major leaguer, but he is already 27-28 years old so he isn't really young. Pie is the only other player in the deal who might be worth something to the Cubs but based on what I've seen from him, he really could be another Corey Patterson and "the cubs" might be better off just signing Lofton or putting Fukudome in CF and DeRosa in RF. Pie can be replaced easily. That being said, the rest in my offered trade are just garbage and will never have an impact on the Cubs. Cedeno? Theriot will play over him for the next few years, Theriot brings more to the table than Cedeno. Murton? Where whould he play? Patterson? They say he was the worst defensive 2B in all of baseball. Dempster is getting booed out of Wrigley every night, and people are still complaining about drafting Colvin so early. You have to give up some to get some. I actually think the trade would be something like Hill, Pie, Gallagher, Murton, Cedeno, Dempster, Patterson for Bedard and Roberts. And you guys wouldn't want that? None of those guys will turn out to be stars like Bedard and Roberts. Gallagher, Murton and Cedeno for Roberts is a steal for us...... Hill, Pie, Patterson, and Dempster for Bedard? In my opinion that is a steal for us as well. The package they are getting from Seattle could be better than that. Sorry I dont wanna argue about this anymore. It is my opinion that Bedard is a ridiculously good pitcher and doesnt compare to Hill. And I think that Marmol being a lot younger and could start for us if we chose would be a better starter than Hill and will soon be a stud closer is more valuable than Hill. Just my opinion.... anyways, the Mariners have Bedard and hopefully we can throw some type of Gallagher, Murton, Cedeno, Dempster package for Roberts and Payton. But... sigh. No, never mind. It's just not worth it.
  8. The value that Bedard (and Hill) has over Marmol is almost incomprehensible it's so high. And as for that second trade, why not throw in Vitters and D-Lee as well? As long as it's not Marmol. There's so many things said on this board that I disagree with but are valid. Then there's others that are just insultingly incorrect. This falls into the latter category.
  9. LF Soriano 2B Roberts 1B Lee 3B Ramirez RF Fukudome C Soto CF Pie SS Theriot Not advocating it, but I think that's what we'd see if this goes down.
  10. I think the West still belongs to the Angels but the Mariners will be quite good. And I'd be surprised if Roberts isn't traded by the end of the week.
  11. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors;_ylt=Am.6RHdjFPzHNiHiU7Cd6jcRvLYF Doubt it since it seems like him to the Mariners is all but done, but it is from today so I thought i'd post it. I woulnd't be surprised if MacPhail and Hendry have the Roberts thing agreed on until Bedard is traded and Jim is helping Seattle raise their ante. I could see MacPhail telling Bavassi: "Well we're going to take the Cubs offer of Pie, Hill, and a buncha minor leaguers (obviously not real) unless you replace Sherill with Truinfel", or something like that. it is a shame that we aren't going to get bedard because that trade would be super cool my prediction is that these trades will undoubtedly go down this next week mark it dude! Giving up Hill in a trade for Bedard would in no way be super cool. this is where you and i don't see eye to eye...in my opinion bedard is a better pitcher than hill That doesn't give any reason to trade Hill for him The key to acquiring Bedard is that the rotation would be complete. Trading Hill for Bedard is a slight upgrade but it still leaves a spot open. true...doing the trade without hill is the preferred option, but if that can't be done...bedard is better than a slight upgrade...so it would make the rotation stronger... Bedard really isn't better than a slight upgrade. He's barely even an upgrade. They're almost the same pitcher.
  12. http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_406878.jpg Look how happy he looks. He has no idea how much of our time he's wasting.
  13. Not to stray off topic, but Chemberlain is in a whole different league than Bucholtz.
  14. I find it strange that you continue posting this over and over and over and over and over and over. Yes, we get what Steve Stone thinks.
  15. I think you should ask some of the people at DodgerBlues.com about this. It'd be hilarious.

  17. Does that mean Cotts lasted longer? We win! The Cubs should bring Aardsma back. He's got a live arm.
  18. No, I get tired of you (or anyone else) saying that because Lou or Hendry or Steve Stone or Jesus Christ agrees with you than you're right. If you want to argue something, make an argument. "Steve Stone says so" doesn't count.
  19. Actually, I could see it happening. We obviously need more than Murton, but that would make a lot of sense
  20. I can't tell you how annoying it is that you make the same argument over and over and over. Yes, no one here is a part of an MLB organization. Stop trying to discount their opinions because of it. It doesn't even matter if I agree with Soriano or DeRosa or anything, but this argument you continue using is getting old.
  21. He got by on his "funkiness." Once people figured him out, he was dead meat.
  22. No risk, no reward. I don't expect him to appear in more than a handful of games before being let go again.
  23. Lieber is still quite average. This is an excellent signing.
  24. Is that still funny?
