  1. Thank God, hopefully this is finally over and Cedeno gets a shot at short!!! Sean Gallagher, too.
  2. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7665630?MSNHPHMA Advantage Cardinals. By a lot.
  3. I'm not sure what we could offer that would make them want to give up Tim Lincecum. I doubt it'd be possible without Rich Hill.
  4. The Brewers had the 3rd best FIP in the NL last year so it was really the fact they had the 3rd worst defense in the NL that held their pitching down. When you add in the fact they are in a hitters park vs an extreme pitchers park they had the 2nd or 3rd best pitching in the NL and they should be better this year. 2nd or 3rd best pitching in the NL? I think not.
  5. Is this a real argument? Seriously? I mean... wait, is this cubs.com? If you put Mark DeRosa on a couple of really bad teams last year, he's their All Star too. And quite frankly, neither of the Cubs All Stars deserved to go last year based on their first half. We had one deserving recipient; Aramis, and he didn't go.
  6. I expect that this guy's going to draw a lot of mixed opinions. He was obviously great at first, but dreadful after that. Really really dreadful. So it's pretty easy to just brush off his hot start and say it was a fluke, but going by his minor league numbers, it's hard to imagine he's anywhere near as bad as he appeared in the last few months. In the minors, the guy is a career .291/.362/.437 hitter. This includes four full seasons where he put up an OBP above .370 and three with an OPS over .800. Granted, he might have been getting a little bit old for AAA in a couple of those seasons, but I find it hard to believe that Mike Fontenot can't be a valuable part of a 25 man roster given the production he's had throughout his career. I'm not advocating we trade Mark DeRosa by any means, but Fontenot shouldn't be written off as someone that has no business on a major league roster. And if he could learn to play shortstop competently, I think he would certainly be an upgrade over Riot.
  7. Making an offer like that won't solve the Cubs problem at SS. The Marlins would laugh at our offer and hang up. Also, Hanley Ramirez is generally rated as the worst defensive SS in the majors. He'll be a 3b within 2 years, and we already have one of those. Why not just make him 3B now since Cabrera is gone? If he's not changing positions now, I don't think he's going to.
  8. I remember Chad Fox being hailed as the Cubs answer at closer as I sat down at a bar in the United Center before the Bulls started. Some guys couldn't stop talking him up. Then he blew out his arm.
  9. Now that this Roberts talk seems to have died down, Hendry will probably shift his focus elsewhere to get a top of the order hitter who can hit left handed. Rafael Furcal, the one that got away, seems like a logical choice. He's in the final year of his contract, so you'd think the Dodgers might be willing to move him for the right price. He's also coming off a major down year that saw his SLG% dip to .355. So, the question is; should we pursue Furcal? And if so, what would you think it would take to get him? http://media.ign.com/boards/images/icons3/baseball_rafaelFurcal4.gif
  10. Good pickup. Like, seriously good pickup. Where is Bill Hall gonna play now though?
  11. Wow. That's all I have to say. Wow. So, how do we get Adam Dunn? Ideas?
  12. What LLF said. I'm pretty sure Lieber hasn't been signed by anyone.
  13. Actually, I believe that was in a game against Houston where Brad Lidge blew a save. I could be wrong. That very well could be, do you know what date that game was by any chance? Not positive at all. I believe it was sometime in July in 2004. Sammy hit a walkoff in extra innings against Houston. I could be wrong.
  14. I don't know where to start with this. Lieber is better than Dempster or Marquis. He's league average. Both of the others are well below average. But that's not even the point I want to address. This #3 #4 garbage is useless. Rich Hill is a very good starter. He was probably the best pitcher on the Cubs last year. Ted Lilly might have been too. But really, who cares? They're both good starters, and it doesn't matter where they'd be sorted in whatever virtual rotation it is that allows guys to be classified as #1-5. Also, stop underrating Rich Hill. He'd be the fourth best starter on roughly zero pitching staffs around the league.
  15. Yes, it's one day closer to being done or not being done. In other words, most of what was published or broadcast yesterday was nonsense. The Cubs would still like Roberts. They are not trading Hill, Pie or Colvin for him. As I said yesterday, they're willing to give up some combination of Gallagher-Marshall-Cedeno for him, and that's it. The names of Hill, Marmol, Pie and Colvin are what the Orioles would be asking for Bedard, and the Cubs aren't in on any Bedard deal. Mr. Miles, While you say "the Cubs aren't in on any Bedard deal," are you of the opinion that they should be pursuing him? Thanks, Hoops He'd be a nice addition, to be sure. But I've been told the Cubs are not players for Bedard. Are they in the market for any starters besides Jon Lieber, Bruce?
  16. holy christ man!!! why are we not looking at pitchers not named bloody lieber!!?!?!?? this is getting ridiculous Jon Leiber isn't a bad option. Seriously.
  17. You can't be serious. If Theriot was as good as DeRosa we'd have the best lineup in the NL. As it is, Theriot is one of baseball's worst regulars. Theriot's similar to DeRosa only in that they're both capable of playing second base.
  18. I don't mind losing Marshall, but Gallagher would be a huge loss. Starters with his success at every level don't grow on trees.
  19. They also think that a Brian Roberts deal wouldn't be fair unless we gave up Hill and Pie, so yeah. I love gatewayredbirds, but God does WSI suck.
  20. I was under the distinct impression that it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Crede was going to be shipped off for some crappier crap, and that Owens would ride the pine (but Ozzie would still feel a need to get him 250 PA). C - Pierzynski 1B - Konerko 2B - Richar? Uribe? SS - OCab 3B - Fields LF - Quentin CF - Swisher RF - Dye DH - Thome Then again, that could just be my imagination... If you believe White Sox Interactive, Crede's going to be the centerpiece of a deal involving either Erik Bedard or Tim Lincecum (I'm serious).
  21. The one thing linking all these crazy trades you make up is that we rarely give up anything significant and we always get exactly what we need.
  22. But you have, in essence, said that all this discussion is worthless because Lou's the one making the decisions.
  23. I'm not arguing whether a Brian Roberts trade is or isn't a bigger sports story than a HOF announcement because it doesn't matter what news is more significant. I think it's a somewhat unwritten rule (or even a written rule to all MLB sports teams from the commissioner of baseball) that you don't disrupt a significant MLB announcement with business as usual dealings. It's sort of memorium to pay respects. It's disrespectful to overshadow a major announcement. But, I could be way off base. I don't know. I'm not an insider. :D A-Rod and Boras didn't get the memo.
  24. We're very likely to have two prospects in the top 30 in baseball this year. Just curious, who? I'd guess Vitters and Colvin.
