  1. Lucroy's cost would be too high to not take advantage and play him every day, so that'd be a definitive win now move at Contreras' expense. Next year too. Not necessarily wrong, but very opinionated to the short term. Outside of Lucroy I don't see a practical option for this year outside of hoping Contreras catches on quickly or Montero gets right. Maybe Derek Norris if you think his bat is easier to turn around than Montero's? You mean the acquisition cost? I don't know if I agree with that - but of course we don't know that cost. I do like Norris though and even if he doesn't fully rebound offensively, he is a better defender than Montero and six years younger. Long-term, WIllson looks like a better outfield option than Schwarber. He also looks like a better catching option.
  2. Cards lose and Pirates behind. Would be a good day to pick up a game!
  3. Really, it's not just next year though - it's this year too and Montero and Heyward are just black holes offensively. At least Heyward provides good defense but Montero looks completely washed up (injury maybe?). If Lucroy were left-handed, it would be better but running Montero out there is starting to seem like a non-option. So, does Contreras catch with Ross as back-up the rest of the year?
  4. With that contract, having Lucroy makes a ton of sense for the Cubs this and next year. And he can get a QO next year or you flip him. I'm with TT though that I don't think I would have Schwarbs catching a ton next year. I think the idea of waiting out the market makes sense though and see what it costs to get him. What's the point where the Brewers just keep him? I don't really see the huge incentive they have to trade him.
  5. Considering it was likely this vs sending Edwards down, it's fine for now. Grimm has pitched better of late but I'm not sure he'll even be down that long. I'm guessing after Monday the Cubs will need to sort out their roster for August. Soler will be back. Are they going to leave LaStella down? Lots of choices to be made unless there are more trades (or maybe even more so). Grimm going down is really probably just like letting him rest for a couple days.
  6. I don't see that narrative at all.
  7. apparently they are . . .
  8. They are getting pummeled tonight! Per BP, the Cubs and Cardinals have both been very unlucky. Basically, Pittsburgh should be 18 out.
  9. Why would anyone trade for Matt Kemp much less Atlanta?
  10. er, Matusz had a 3.20 ERA in 19 2/3 innings over 13 career appearances against the Mariners while with the Orioles, with the first 12 of those games coming in relief. Robinson Cano has hit .316 with two homers against him in 42 plate appearances, while Nelson Cruz has batted .583 with three doubles and two homers in 13 PAs.
  11. If you say it's so, how can anyone disagree?
  12. now I don't get it. unless he wanted to boost rondon's confidence - or just thought with Aoki it didn't matter.
  13. haha - home plate ump looked visibly relieved.
  14. I think he wants chapman for Cano in the 9th. 5 outs may be a big ask.
  15. oh jesus the shrinking late inning zone . . .
  16. Fowler absolutely needs to run on that - that's a no-brainer with one out. If he is out, it's 1st and 3rd with two outs versus 2nd and 3rd with two outs.
  17. I think he was safe but I wouldn't have overturned it on those replays if you believe in the "conclusive evidence" judgement remember they may have other angles.
  18. out. I think this is another advantage the cubs have with Chapman - other teams will play their infield in in these types of games.
  19. well, I figure its because the Cubs asked about Paxton and Walker and the Ms said no, how about Miley? And the Cubs said, naw, Miley kind of sucks.
