  1. assuming this team is the same aside from those two, I don't see them worth 17 wins last year. Additionally the Cubs had miserable luck last year. I don't think 100 wins is likely even without those two. I don't think Perry's article is really that bad. The Cardinals won 100 games the last two years and haven't lost that much. #5 seems quite reasonable.
  2. to me, the definition of good management would be adapting your style to the team you are managing. Baker does not seem to be good at this.
  3. TLR seems to be better at getting the most out of role players. Both are obstinant to a fault. I see TLR as a slightly above average in and baker as slightly below average to average. I don't think either is worth their contract. At best Baker doesn't cost you any wins. I suspect he may cost the Cubs a loss or two with poor bullpen management and his love of poor offensive players.
  4. I can't think of any guys who have had recurring injury problems beyond normal pitcher's issues (a tommy john or shoulder surgery here and there). Tony keeps notecards with him of all his pitchers stats against the opposing lineups. He goes with the lefty/righty matchups but not blindly. IIRC, TLR and Duncan have chewed up more than their share of arms.
  5. And the year before, Dusty's Giants had a seemingly insurmountable 5-0 lead and he let it to the bullpen early. Look what happened there. I am not saying it's right or wrong, because I'd say he left Mark in too long. I'm saying that I see his point. When he says "you never know", he had experience. and this is your argument defending baker - he made the wrong decision twice! or perhaps not the 1st time but anyone could see prior was out of gas.
  6. what does this have to do with howie kendrick? Because they'd be trading Kendrick for another outfielder? Kendrick is an Angels prospect - not DBacks.
  7. When you have a BA of .359, your OBP should be higher than .404. a .404 OBP with a .359 BA is better than a .404 OBP with a .290 BA. In fact, history shows that BA is more sustainable than walk rate as players advance. Now, if he had a .420 BABIP then I might be concerned. All that being said, I would be pleased with an .850+ OPS from 2b. The Angels do have a glut of MI so this might make sense from their end. Not sure if I would do it if I were the Cubs but I would definitely think about it. All things considered, I would offer them some pitching instead of Pie.
  8. they aren't predictions - they are rankings of the teams right now. Looked pretty reasonable to me.
  9. why is he stupid?
  10. they have one at wgn and one at the former fsc
  11. hairston showing his range with 3 assists in one inning
  12. that's how I would interpret that. Marshall will get the fifth starter spot and guzman will pitch in the minors until someone notices he is better than rusch or williams.
  13. I would guess he is referring to the fifth starter even if that is a couple weeks away. Didn't the Marlins rely on Willis to win the WS?
  14. marshall has made the team IMO
  15. ?? Did I miss a quote? http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060328&content_id=1365106&vkey=spt2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  16. wow, grissom sounds like a great teammate. so is there room for pagan and restovich now?
  17. Why do I keep leaving the MyFi at home? every game this week is on . . .
  18. wow, that opening song on the radio broadcast makes me semi-suicidal. that's awful!
  19. 60 of 66 entries in our office pool failed to identity a final four team. that's amazing. I got one - UCLA.

Just to be sure, wouldn't Anthony Reyes of the Cards be on that list with one year used? Or has he not used any of his years because his 13 IP were not sufficient to remove his rookie eligibility? Yeah, Reyes has used 1 year too. no, I don't think he has. in this league, you don't start elgiibility until you lose your rookie status, at least thats how I read the rules.
