  1. there is no reason for the home plate umpire to ever make that call. terrible.
  2. no, some stats are tabulated overnight - including total bases allowed and quality starts.
  3. right, because for certain he would have induced a DP and not given up a HR.
  4. so the knothole is open after all? After that huge argument?
  5. this why baseball is great, 0-whatever, two ugly horrible swings, then 3 run homer to center. thank you for not curtain calling.
  6. actually, I think I win as long as Rolen doesn't lose points. I'm going to gain at least 4 points on him based on total bases.
  7. oh good grief, I'm 2.6 behind Raisin with only Rolen still active - for me. Unless the kenny rogers outing had enough TBs, I now have to root for Rolen to score 3 points.
  8. Are you really going to nit-pick him about the team's worst pitcher? Can't we be happy that the team is off to a good start and Dusty has managed decent enough? Geez. well, if he isn't going to use him, send him to AAA to sort himself out and bring up another hitter.
  9. oh, the pitchout in the ninth was ridiculous. I knew there was a bad move there somewhere.
  10. we're a second half team! Ah well, the scarfaces and Dawgs will pay the price!
  11. No he's pretty stupid, though, he might be right about Ronny's throw tailing. a lot of throws tail when you throw them running to your left.
  12. no argument there. even if the numbers were reversed, I would take the OBP.
  13. what does that have to do with homeruns? The reason the cubs don't score without homeruns is because of lack of OBP. The Cubs don't have players with good OBP and don't seem intent on acquiring a lineup full of them. I'll take a few guys who can get on base at a decent clip and have speed over a few guys who have bad averages and OBPs but hit an occasional home run, which is what we had last year. A couple more Lee or Ramirez type players is not an alternative for this team. Lee runs quite well. Ramirez and Lee both have good OBPs. I would certainly prefer another Lee or Ramirez to a Jones or Pierre or a Burnitz. 8 Lees would score a whole lot of runs! I guess I don't really follow what you are trying to say. I would choose OBP over speed. I'm saying I agree with you but the Cubs aren't going to get more Lees or Ramirezzzz. If the choice is Patterson (who was fast but rarely got on base to use it) and Burnitz vs. Pierre and Jones, I think Pierre and Jones will help the team win more games even though Patterson and Burnitz are a lock for more home runs. OBP is more important than home runs. agreed.

  15. And if Detroit got hot for 5 games in the middle of July, nobody would be making such a huge deal about it. of course not, but they have justified their ranking. I don't think a hot stretch of less than 5% of the season justifies anything. For all of Detroit's hotness, they're an entire one game ahead of Cleveland. Nobody has justified their rankings yet. I am happy I started Verlander today, though. the rankings are real-time. for the first week, the tigers and brewers are 1-2.

  17. They also have the wind pick up when the opposing team bats.
  18. on second thought, perhaps he underrated detroit. 5-0 all on the road. team ERA around 2 - mind you this after two games in Texas.
  19. I think we best hope there is no one on base when he comes to bat.
  20. lol, he didn't start playing SS this year you know.
