  1. seriously, I wouldn't throw bay a strike all weekend. and the cubs haven't.
  2. zero. he's no arroyo at the plate. Arroyo wasn't anything special at the plate either in his first couple seasons in Pittsburgh. In 2001 he had 16 strikeouts in 21 AB's and for his career he is batting .102 with 34 strikeouts in 59 AB's. yea, it was a joke. Why in God's name is Bynum hitting 2nd? That's ridiculous. You gotta bring Murt and Young Ronny along and ease them in. Plus, Bynum is fast dude. oh right, I thought I had read something about winning games. its hard to keep up with dusty's intellect.
  3. No, he's about the same as Williams. I like Guzman, but he hasn't done it in the majors yet and is injury prone. I don't count on Prior to make over 30 starts a year, so I think we need to anticipate him being on the DL for 25-50% of the season. That alone will give young guys a lot of opportunity. I'd like the top three to be filled by at least above average pitchers who typically make all of their starts. I would wait until the end of the year to assess wood, prior and miller. At that point you might have a better read on williams, marshall, guzman, hill, and ryu as well and know better what you need. I wouldn't trade for Zito under any circumstances (barring a give away of course).

  5. His option year was burned when he was sent to Iowa. We can call him up and send him back down as many times as we want this year and it won't impact how many option years he has left. yea, not thinking clearly this morning. of course if he is on the 40 man an option year is burned.
  6. It seems like that, but IIRC, the average height of the adult American male is right around 5'8" I thought it was more like 5'11". I feel about average and I'm 6'1"
  7. I was going to say I'm glad this isn't a football team! I'll take 3b - decent arm, very quick but not much footspeed. I hit like Murton - left-center to right-center with a few homeruns mixed in.
  8. but they did come back. win 6 of 10 15 more times and the cubs will be hosting a playoff series.
  9. definitely not pettitte or zito. way overpriced. keep in mind that career ERA includes about half his starts in Oakland. Mulder is the best of the bunch there for sure but Ohka would be cheaper. I am thinking going with internal options is the best idea for the Cubs right now. Is Ohka really much better than Williams or Guzman?
  10. Ronny's D will be fine. Who is saying he is an offensive stud?
  11. well, he already missed all of the second half of next year, he's very young, very promising and still working on the skills that will make him a major league player. while spending some time on the bench won't hurt him too much in all likelihood, he also likely wouldn't help the cubs much in that role. if you bring him up, you burn an option year, you start his service time, and you take away learning time from him. You have to weigh how much he helps the team win versus those factors. I'm for waiving Bynum - particularly after last night.
  12. I think a couple things apply here - one is that these things are reported more precisely now. the second is that players spend too much time lifting and not enough stretching.
  13. Neifi is what he is - a free swinger. Murton hit a bullet, but the 3B was guarding the line and robbed him of extra bases. Cedeno's AB stunk. so neifi's at-bat was ok because he is what he is but cedeno's at-bat stunk? Nice double standard.
  14. Yeah, but I don't think it's a good idea in this particular case. While Dopirak's injury is serious, he'll still only be out for two months or so. When he's healed and ready to come back we'd have a new roster crunch trying to figure out who to remove so Dope can start playing again. In essence, we'd just be pushing the same roster decision two months down the road. The only time a move like that makes sense is when you don't expect the injured player back until next season or the replacement player is complete roster filler and you don't mind waiving him when your injured player returns. I don't see why thats a problem. Pushing a decision back 60 days makes perfect sense. Someone else could be injured or the cubs could realize how bad bynum is by then.
  15. are you people watching the game? Pagan never would have scored from first on that double.
  16. Pierre will never strike out 100+ times in a season. Never. that will make his sub .300 obp so palatable.
  17. he was good. and he got a huge strike zone.
  18. murton could bat 2nd. i don't want ronny anywhere near teh top of the lineup. once he decides to take a few more walks, cool. i love his speed and hustle. yea, I'd hate to give up all those walks pierre takes. pierre usually can be counted on for a high batting average, so his lack of walks only hurt him so much. he'd be a lot better with a few more walks, definitely. cedeno isn't going to hit .300+ over the course of a full season. his obp isn't going to level off at .340+ either. pierre sucks right now, but he has history on his side. oh, he isn't. I didn't realize you already knew that for sure.

  20. and if the ball bounces funny he still ends up at second.
  21. too bad we don't have right handed bat.
