  1. dusty symbolizes the loser mentality read quote on abucks posts.
  2. Rusch in the 7th, Novoa in the 8th, and Ryu in the 9th. Book it! I think he meant sitting and watching the game.
  3. lol, due up Jones, Hairston, Perez, Blanco, Maddux - I would be happy if we got a baserunner. that always works. pinch hit for blanco

  5. I'm on record as thinking he was. Williams's offseason in 2004 was pretty bad and he got lucky with many of his acquisitions. But this last offseason he did a really fantastic job. Thome may yet breakdown.
  6. If that's the case, then let's find someone to manage the team for $500,000/year and have an extra 4 million to spend on payroll. If the manager has little to no impact on wins and losses, then the Cubs sure are throwing their money away. Excellent idea. no manager is worth 4.5 million.
  7. Andy "Jim, have you seen how many fire Dusty threads are on NSBB?" Jim "No, Andy, those people are all fools and don't understand the value of speed, bunting, and defense." Andy "I think you have no choice Jim - fire Dusty or I will have to fire you."
  8. yes, if we had a big stick to put out in left, this would be a good idea. with matsui hurt, that is not likely to happen. in the meantime, murton is passable against rhp but jones is not against lhp. so lets find a right-handed platoon partner! I would see if there was any way to get Craig Wilson to play 1b until lee returns and then platoon with murton or even with jones.
  9. http://sports.yahoo.com/sa/news;_ylt=Ampsg2jth08iaD1YJnHPNAo5nYcB?slug=ap-100worldrecord&prov=ap&type=lgns In an effort to increase team speed and rev up the ailing offense, the Chicago Cubs today announced they had come to terms with speedster Justin Gatlin. Asked if Gatlin had ever played baseball, Hendry responded that "Gatlin has tremendous tools and upside. We are very excited to add the 100 meters world record holder to the team."
  10. That would give us FIRE! and INTENSITY! Pierre would start hitting doubles off the right-center wall. Neifi Perez would be jacking homeruns onto Waveland. Aramis Ramirez would be running out groundballs. Matt Murton would flip his bat and show up opposing pitchers after going deep. Ronny Cedeno would squint a lot more. A brawl would make them see the ball better, understand the value of a walk, and hit the ball further. Egnius! EXACTLY!
  11. I don't even know what that means....aren't two-out hits a GOOD thing? I read that to mean nobody was getting hits with less than 2 outs, making it more difficult for the ones who got the 2-out hit to score. The 2 out, nobody on single. Mark Grace's bread n butter. you can't sacrifice without two outs stupids! Let me state for the record that there is no better time to steal second than after a two out single.
  12. This team needs an old-fashioned brawl - when do they face oswalt next? I say call up a scrub, send him up to the plate and charge the mound after the first pitch. He can just say oswalt was running his mouth and he had to defend his manhood.
  13. List of team's with similarly disappointing may record who fired the manager: 2000 Mets 2005 Astros 2003 Marlins I may be off on the years but all of those teams were terrible in May, got a new manager, and ended up in the playoffs (Mets in WS and Marlins won WS). It can make a difference.
  14. First of all he might be in a rural area where cable TV is not available. Second of all WGN9 in HDTV is only available over the air and via cable in the Chicago area. Even if he could get cable he might be stuck with the WGN national superstation (outside Chicago). That channel is standard def only, carries no WB programming and I think carries fewer Cubs games. 80 miles is pushing it unless you're on top of a hill, have a tower to mount your antenna and a clear line of view to the tower. DTV would work. WGN carries all the cub gameson WGN in Chicago. Plus you can get EI.
  15. I'm talking about now obviously. His gold gloves don't help me pick the ball off the ground - which seems to be a big chore for barry these days.
  16. I am willing to bet Hendry is of the mindset that Jones and Pierre are going to come bigtime and the offense will get going. Craig Wilson is the only option I've heard that makes any sense at all for replacing Lee - particularly since he could also platoon with Murton.
  17. wow, that's giving it up for the team! Were you watching Edmonds because we all know you wouldn't have gone near the wall.
  18. I swear if you just saw the results of abs by bynum, mabry, perez, and pierre, you would never be able to guess which one was hitting.
  19. hmm, find commonality . ..
  20. And the point is overuse has a carry over effect. Everything I've heard about pitching injuries suggest they build up over time. 2004-2005 injuries could very well have been at least partially influenced by 2002 and 2003 usage patterns. unless you write a doctoral thesis and have it approved by joe morgan, they are never going to believe it.
  21. hendry knows a new manager won't help this pile of crap he assembled.
  22. Are you serious? Him making a run-scoring hit in a game the Cubs are getting murdered in beyond hope makes up for all the other times he's played and screwed up when victory was even at least remotely possible? Bynum sucked before the triple and still sucks after the triple. Out of pure spite, I'd say he actually sucks even MORE than before for hitting it in a game like today's. the fact that it was a lazy fly ball played into a triple by a crippled old man might have something to do with it as well.
  23. in LF? That was brutal.
