  1. you really don't get it do you? Jones was a bad signing. What he does this week or next week, or last week makes no difference. He is not a good player. He does not provide what the Cubs need to win. We are stuck watching him for another two years after this one. I don't care if he hits four homers tomorrow - I don't want him on the Cubs. And as far I can tell the only hater is the guy who started this thread hating on other fans.
  2. That extension should never have been given in the first place. MacPhail, Hendry and Baker should all go, along with the entire staff save Speier, and the entire front office, scout system, and minor league development people. Silver lining: everything I have heard is that the Trib loves Andy. Maybe Hendry's extension will be proof positive that Andy has flaws and the entire organization needs to go in a different direction. I just don't think the corporate mentality will allow that. The team has made them a whole lot of money over Andy's tenure. They probably value that more that the struggles of the past 2 seasons. True, but the Hendry extension was a bad business decision. It was utterly premature, and I think particularly non-baseball suits can see that. they blame injuries.
  3. not to mention his .337 OBP against righties is still one of the best on the team.
  4. You think Dusty actually uses OPS as a stat to evaluate players?
  5. you still have two more starts? Dang. Do I have any tomorrow? I had one of those days where you look at each player's total and say "that adds up to that much?"
  6. he's a rookie. since they are losing, it must be because of rookies. what you've missed is summarized like this up until today: Other team bats and scores. cubs bat and don't score. repeat until game is out of reach. Today, maddux dominates padres, cubs squeak out a lead, dempster blows save.
  7. well, hendry doesn't get it either.
  8. a three run homer isn't very creative. now last year's team was creative, botched run-downs, passed balls . . .
  9. another thing stubborn as a baker won't do. yea, I would put him on the block with maddux.
  10. someone most people haven't heard of would be good.
  11. the cubs need divine intervention. "we altered the space-time continuum and the cubs still haven't won the world series."
  12. Thats a halfway decent lineup How come no one has suggested leading off Murton? He has the highest OBP on the team. he's not a "legitimate" leadoff hitter.
  13. I think taking Pierre out of the top three is better step.
  14. in all honesty, it doesn't matter. this team just doesn't have enough good hitters. I wood go Cedeno, Walker, Ramirez (in the hopes that Ramirez someday returns to being good), after that its a crapshoot as Murton, Barrett and Jones are not 4 hitters and everyone else is pretty much just a bad hitter. I guess against righties Jones is alright there and against lefties I would go with Barrett and then Murton, then whoever is platooning with Jones.
  15. mark May 15 down - next off day - so, yea, monday.
  16. Yes, there could be a silver lining. ...yeah right! Dusty didn't give up the 3-run homer. We should be booing Dempster. 26 saves in a row until today.Booing him would be ridiculous. It's OK to boo Latroy but not Dempster. I'd hate to play the race card, but... that's ridiculous.
  17. poor dempster. he has to feel absolutely awful. and I am willing to bet he doesn't blame anyone else.
  18. He IS left-handed. which generally is little help against a change-up . . .though I haven't looked up Hoffman's splits.
  19. Dempster just wants to pitch more often. like I said . ..
  20. so, who's the pinch hitter? 2:1 says Mabry
  21. Even simple animals know that when you try to get some cheese and get shocked, you stop trying to get the cheese. But goddarnit, variable rewards systems, like gambling, tend to grab people. So Dusty sees some good results from bunting , you know what he's gonna do? BUNT SOME MORE. Of course spread over the course of a season its gonna have a very negative effect, but he wont worry about that. i'm curious to see what these "good results" are. It seems like whenever we bunt, that run never scores. just wednesday night the cubs bunted and got a run - and a win!
  22. and neifi fails in the one situation where he is actually potentially useful,
  23. "It's called playing the percentages." "but coach, I have ten homers today."
