  1. After today? According to Vance's link, Marquis is supposed to start tomorrow and Prior on Thursday.
  2. I could live with that OPS if he's putting up his .355 career OBP, or better yet, the .365-.367 he had in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Seconded. Who cares if all he does is walk and get singles. We have other guys to get extra base hits. Eckstein's was only .694 last year. Yeah, if Theriot can get on base in the upper .300's, I don't see why his lack of power should be a concern. My point is, we already know Derosa's not going to break .340 OBP. Why not give the kid with more upside a chance? We know that he is not going to break .340? Considering last year was .357, I'm not sure how we know he's not going to break that-even if he has a lesser year this year he still has a shot of breaking that number, and even though he's not hitting well at all he's having a good OBP spring. He did that @ 31 years old, playing in one of the best hitting environments in baseball. Last time he was in the NL, he posted .293 Agreed, but he also has completely changed his hitting stance at the plate since then as well. I would agree that it is unknown if he will put up a .340+ OBP, but it certainly would be a reasonable outcome if he did so.

  4. Somebody inserted the [against left-handers] part. Lou could be talking about the 10-15 games Jones doesn't start due to normal rest, which would still leave him a lot of PA against LHP. That's exactly what I was thinking-that was more of the writer's opinion than anything. It's possible that he got that opinion from something else Lou said, but from just that quote alone it could be something that the writer just made up himself.
  5. 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K since his return from the injury.
  6. I do think when Theriot plays at 2B, 3B, or the OF he will bat 2nd-that seems to be how Lou is doing it this spring, and it makes sense. On any days that he happens to play SS, he'll probably bat 8th.
  7. I have been trying to think about which pitcher this originally applied to-I haven't had a name pop up in my head, but I'm sure when I hear it it will seem like it should have been obvious.
  8. Howry did a good job in his outing today. 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball with only 1 H allowed. Middle of 5, still 14-4 Cubs over Seattle.
  9. I would agree, and I think that's a big reason why they chose DeRosa over some of the other 2B available. He gives you options to be able to let the development of somebody like Patterson proceed naturally, and then DeRosa still has value even when the time may come when Patterson (or Theriot) would beat him out for the starting job. That's a nice thing to have coming into the next couple years.
  10. Against Seattle, the Cubs add 3 more in the 4th on 4 more hits. It is 14-4 Cubs after 4 now, and some of the backups are coming in (Walker in for Soriano, McGehee in for Ramirez).
  11. Miller got through 3 1/3: his line-3 1/3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HR He was ok except he gave up the one big swing to Beltre (3 run HR) that cost him his entire outing. Theriot committed an error in the 4th, but Howry came in and got the Cubs out of the inning with no damage.
  12. When you look at his home/away splits for his last 5 years in the Metrodome, it will be more likely he will be closer to 2006 than 2004-2005.
  13. The Cubs against Seattle added 3 more runs in the 3rd. Izturis, Soriano, and Theriot got hits (Theriot a triple) and somebody else reached on an error. It's 11-4 Cubs after 3.
  14. It's 5-1 Cubs after 1 over Seattle-10 batters came to the plate in the first inning.
  15. In the other game, Miller gave up 1 hit, a hit batter, and 1 run in the first inning, but it wasn't earned because there was an error by Floyd that should have ended the inning.
  16. In retrospect, I think too much was read into that quote from a week or so ago. Lou was asked if Guzman was going to be a reliever, and Lou replied that he wasn't looking at Guzman as a reliever. Now it was taken at the time as that he'd either be a starter at Chicago or Iowa. However, it seems now that Lou was simply saying that he was considering Guzman for being a starter first. Now that Miller is the front-runner for that job, that allows Lou to start thinking of Guzman as a candidate for being a reliever instead of a starter.
  17. I have a series of situations that I need help at. I'm looking to possibly upgrade at 1B, 2B, 3B, and SP. Here are my most likely options: One player has Cano/Uggla/Durham at 2B and Morneau/Giambi (currently in his utility slot)/Helton at 1B He only has 3 OF's (Ramirez/Burrell/Crisp) Another has Pujols/Fielder/Overbay at 1B This player has absolutely no closers. A third player has David Wright/Aramis Ramirez/Troy Glaus at 3B, and his utility spot is blocked (David Ortiz). He also only has 3 OF's (Andruw Jones/Patterson/Granderson) and only 2 SP's (Rich Harden/Ervin Santana). Finally, a 4th player has 10 SP-Carpenter/Zambrano/Harang/Myers/Bedard/Sabbathia/Johnson/Verlander/Clemens He has 1 closer (Lidge), weak in the OF (Jacque Jones/Craig Monroe/Byrnes), and no bench position players whatsoever besides his Utility player (Konerko). I'm sorry for all the questions-this is a seriously messed up league right now though, and I definitely could use some help sorting through the trade options and who I should target and offer. I thought it would be better if I gave some specifics of who could possibly be had so that hopefully somebody will help me on what to offer some of these people.
  18. Unfortunately, Cuddyer is not 1B eligible in my league (a ESPN league). Thanks for the tips though, that did give me a nice starting point to think about how to shape my roster.
  19. This is a 10 team traditional 5 by 5 league-it auto drafted for me. Obviously I know I'm going to need another 1B, but if anyone could tell me the strengths and weaknesses of my team and how good they are, I would appreciate it-I am still struggling with getting used to fantasy baseball. C-Brian Mcann 1B-Nick Johnson 2B-Luis Castillo 3B-Mark Teahan SS-Bill Hall OF-Vladimir Guerrero OF-Carlos Beltran OF-Carlos Lee Util-Johnny Damon Bench-Michael Cuddyer Bench-Rocco Baldelli Bench-Edgar Renteria Bench-Nick Markakas Bench-Michael Barrett P-Roy Halladay P-Daisuke Matsuzaka P-Rich Hill P-Fransisco Rodriguez P-Bobby Jenks P-Todd Jones My initial thoughts are that this team is not good at all because it's not balanced. In fact, the computer drafted my starting 3B, 2B, and 1B in the last 3 rounds of the draft! I have some trading chips on the bench, but what value could I get for them? Edit: This is a roto league and there is a max of 120 starts between the starting pitchers.
  20. This worries me! I feel like Hendry will overrule some of the roster decisons (read Cotts). I don't read it quite as that-it is more that Lou is saying that if they make the squad, that won't worry him-but there simply might not be enough room, especially for both of them at the same time.
  21. That was completely expected. The only one who really played poorly throughout the tournament was Wisconsin (and somewhat Illinois). Purdue, Indiana, and Michigan State showed something by all winning their first round games and playing well in their second round games-they just happened to run into Florida, UCLA, and UNC respectively. I think the Big 10 showed with their performance that they did deserve all their bids and they were seeded correctly.
  22. I still don't see how you can be rooting for USC. I mean, conference allegiances I understand but they can only go so far. I don't understand rooting for a bitter rival. I don't think Illinois fans were rooting for Indiana against UCLA yesterday. I root for anything that can make my school look better-I was cheering for both Purdue and Illinois the last couple days, but I'm not cheering for Kentucky because people will not associate Kentucky being better with IU being better.
  23. Does anyone find it awkward he's only available for WGN's games? No, it's just those games were in the contract earlier. CSN decided to add a few games a month or two ago to their schedule, and by that time Brenly had apparently scheduled things for those days that he apparently didn't want to get out of.
  24. Aren't Verne and Raftery doing this game? Or am I confused? I was confused for a minute-I edited my post while you were posting this :D
