  1. and I'll wager his OPS will still be below 700 and ill wager it will be higher than the catchers we would have had (outside of barrett)
  2. the future? unless im mistaken he's a free agent after this season. I don't think he's a very good player anymore but this isnt the worst deal hes done. the money isnt an issue for the Cubs and its a buy low chance. there's a pretty damn good chance kendalls obp is .340+ the rest of the season. power? no but as long as hes not an auto out im happy. I'm talking about for this season. How much money can we add before the deadline? Whatever that theoretical number is, this takes a chunk out of it (unless we got the A's to eat a ton of money), making it harder to pick up an actual difference maker, instead of a guy that can't out OPS Izturis. he has about 4 million left. the cubs gained 1.5 mil out of the barrett deal. dumping izturis and/or jones would make the money issue back at zero.
  3. Are we really getting worked up over a potential LOOGY? Well, seeing as he gets out righties just as well as lefties, he's no LOOGY. He's probably a better lefty reliever than Eyre, Ohman or Rapada. Kendall has been awful this season to boot. Blevins is a non-entity.

  5. Paulino's supposed to be alright. One year he was rated best defensive catcher in the pirate system, not that it means anything. Doumit isn't.
  6. Because hes shown enough to keep my confidence after three bad starts out of four. Dead arm.
  7. Doumit would be very nice, but we're talking about Cesar Izturis here. Paulino is a possibility with the emergence of Doumit. I'd like that very much.
  8. im not worried about Marshall and definitely not Hill. Marquis Im not worried about because I know he's crap
  9. Some of those players were filthy and got hurt (Zim)
  10. Wait, so you say that getting DeRosa "was a buy high move" then suggest Ray Durham. You know, the same Durham who had a career year in 2006. Oh, and Durham is three years older and was going to cost a few million more than DeRosa. So how was getting DeRosa buying high but Durham wouldn't be? because durham had already put together a solid career. derosa was a bench player before last year. it may have been buying high, but in all likelihood you were going to get a good player out of it. Giles was the only buy-low guy available last year, and he was non-tendered long after Derosa was signed. Plus, he was nearly a sure-fire thing to go to San Diego. That doesn't change the fact that Durham was still coming off a career year (way out of his career norms) and was 35 coming into the year. He was just as likely, if not more, to have a significant dropoff than DeRosa was. incorrect. buying "high" on Durham would have been 30 mil or so. He was truly underpaid for his services. Also, given the consistency of his numbers his 2006 may have been his best season, but it's not that much better than his career line. The OBP was for real, just a few more homers.
  11. Well, I stand up next to a mountain And I chop it down with the edge of my hand Well, I stand up next to a mountain Chop it down with the edge of my hand Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island Might even raise just a little sand 'Cause I'm a voodoo child Lord knows I'm a voodoo child I didn't mean to take you up all your sweet time I'll give it right back to you one of these days I said, I didn't mean to take you up all your sweet time I'll give it right back to you one of these days And if I don't meet you no more in this world Then I'll, I'll meet you in the next one And don't be late, don't be late 'Cause I'm a voodoo child Lord knows I'm a voodoo child I'm a voodoo child
  12. Ted Radcliffe over his career had like 500 wins, 500 HR, 4000 hits and 4000 Ks.
  13. No. Dihigo was certainly a better player overall. It's just possible to make the argument for Lofton being a better hitter because of the competition that Dihigo faced. dihigo was probably better. If you really want to broaden the horizon Alejandro Oms was probably better.
  14. I forgot Butler. He's probably been better than Butler. He's better than Aparicio another guy I forgot. Billy Hamilton was better but that's way old school. Also better than HOF Max Carey.
  15. i hope it happens, he's one of the best leadoff men of all time. the only one who i can say who has been definitely been better is mr. rickey. Rock Raines and Craig Biggio recently. Off the top of my head: Better: Richie Ashburn (HOF) Cool Papa Bell (HOF) Craig Biggio (HOF) Ty Cobb (HOF) Rock Raines Eddie Collins (HOF) Nap Lajoie (HOF) Roberto Alomar Joe Morgan (HOF) Arguable Either Way: Earle Combs (HOF) Martin Dihigo (HOF) He's better than HOFers Waner, Hooper and Brock. I probably forgot some guys in the HOF and/or added guys who didn't hit lead off most of the time. Did Arky Vaughan hit leadoff? I think he did for awhile.
  16. to be worried about the cardinals is to be stupid
  17. speaking of kenny, at what point do we start mentioning him as a hall of famer. its awfully close.
  18. Like I, and some others, said in May. The Brewers were overachieving and the Cubs underachieving. We said it was not big deal and everything was fine. Now it appears to be fine. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/standings.php Team W L RS RA W1 L1 EQR EQRA W2 L2 AEQR AEQRA W3 L3 D1 D2 D3 Cubs 46. 43. 411 371 48.7 40.3 410 359 49.9 39.1 393 356 48.5 40.5 -2.7 -3.9 -2.5 Brewers 50. 40. 438 399 48.9 41.1 444 388 50.6 39.4 428 390 49.0 41.0 1.1 -0.6 1.0 Reds 37. 54. 429 463 42.1 48.9 416 437 43.4 47.6 400 439 41.6 49.4 -5.1 -6.4 -4.6 Cardinals 40. 47. 375 455 35.6 51.5 362 411 38.4 48.6 357 415 37.5 49.5 4.4 1.6 2.5 Astros 39. 52. 405 456 40.4 50.7 407 473 39.0 52.0 398 475 37.9 53.1 -1.4 0.0 1.1 Pirates 40. 50. 372 441 37.9 52.2 356 445 35.7 54.3 352 444 35.4 54.6 2.1 4.3 4.6 Also, as of right now, we're a coin flip away from the playoffs. fifty-fifty and it's only going to improve.
  19. JP Ricciardi isn't dumb enough to take Izturis off our hands. Baltimore could be.
