  1. Nice come from behind victory for the US. As far as extra time goes, this was pretty well played. And now Uruguay starting some shoving. There may have been a punch thrown, too.
  2. PASS THE BALL. Geez. They really blew a great chance to put this thing away.
  3. Quite an action-filled first 8 minutes here.
  4. And now we have a foul just outside the box. Uh oh.
  5. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
  6. Each side with one pretty decent shot on goal in the first 15 minutes. They're certainly tired, though.
  7. Yeesh. Real strong header off the corner. Close call.
  8. Crazy last 10 minutes. Sure looked like quite a flop by Szetela, though.
  9. Uruguay sure has been playing with a lot of energy. Plenty of Fire news today. Marcelo Salas officially turned down the Fire's offer, Blanco will make his Chicago debut against Celtic in a couple of weeks, and AEG has agreed in principle to sell the Fire to Andell Holdings. I sure hope Altidore is okay. He looks to be in quite a bit of pain. Certainly a hard tackle.
  10. I'd sure be curious to hear which 2 or 3 seasons you're tossing out as less than good. His worst season was still worth over 8 wins. That's very good. 2003: .312/.352/.436/.788, 110 OPS+, 80% SB 2005: .303/.350/.436/.786, 109 OPS+, 80% SB 2006: .322/.370/.416/.786, 109 OPS+, 95% SB Now he did add a significant amount of production in 2006 with his stolen bases, but overall those years aren't terribly impressive.
  11. I disagree with your premise that corking a bat has no effect. It may not help with home runs but it can be helpful to a player - which is probably why players risk the embarassment of being caught with a corked bat. http://www.kettering.edu/~drussell/bats-new/corkedbat.html Also, evidently not all corked bats are the same. A lighter bat is not related to the cork, though. The cork itself provides no advantage. And I don't believe there was ever any proof that there was actually a hole drilled in the bat he used.
  12. I'd love to have someone with a .410 OBP, but the guy has never had a decent IsoD or IsoP. Heck, he's only had 3 or 4 good seasons. Ichiro would have to be bringing in $10 million or more a year now after what gets divided up to the rest of the league for this to seem worth while. And that's not factoring the decline in interest he is going to bring as time goes on. I can't imagine he's bringing in as much money now as he was during his first two seasons.
  13. U-20 vs. Uruguay tonight at 6:45...and I get to watch it on Galavision. Woo.
  14. Meh. Even if this was true and he thought he was cheating, it not having any real effect makes me not care.
  15. What a horrible contract that will be starting...well, starting when it's signed.
  16. Yeesh. Take a look at Lee's. That site is pretty sweet. It even has video links to mlb.com of each HR.
  17. It's still early in July, so that's to be expected. Especially coming from Bowden, although he'll keep doing that until 2 hours before the deadline.
  18. They may have asked for them, but the White Sox will eventually dump him for next to nothing and eat quite a bit of money in the process. The problem is that the odds that Dye will be much of an upgrade the last few months of the season aren't all that high.
  19. I don't think the Cubs will add either, but they're in a position where they need offense and are going to just have to hope that the rotation continues to over-perform.
  20. It seems like most of the hype and unrealistic expectations have faded quite a bit. More and more people beginning to see him for what he is right now and what his future holds. It might not have worked out exactly how the MLS would have liked, but they'll still be laughing to the bank soon enough. And instead of telling me to get a working TV, how about you go and watch the three UCLA players on that roster sometime.
  21. I don't want Lou as the manager, but this is what happens on a Jim Hendry-run ball club. Young players will sit on the bench unless they produce immediately and consistently. Hendry just doesn't have much of a desire to see them get steady playing time. This is just what he does. Of course, it also doesn't help that Jim has a thing for bad veteran baseball players with reputations for being good fielders, making it harder to put a young position player in the lineup everyday when a good chunk of the starting lineup you put together provides little to no value to your team.
  22. Just finished watching this . Looked like a pretty exciting game.
  23. And of course the reason it's taking the guy so long is that they ran out of HD-DVR receivers without telling me and didn't get any in today. This could've been my first exposure to HD...but noooo. Would this be available for download later?
  24. You've got to be kidding me. I wasn't going to be able to watch if it was just on ESPNU or Galavision, but the satellite guy keeps screwing with me and I won't get the receiver installed until Sunday now. Grr. I would love to watch this game. Has a U-20 game ever been on ESPN before?
