  1. Woo. Patterson back at 2nd tonight. And boy did Cotts get lit up: 1.2 IP, 6 H, 9 R, 4 walks, 2 Ks, 1 HR
  2. First 22 minutes were good. Since then BBTN has been more entertaining. Ouch... US up 1-0 in the 67th minute.
  3. Man. I've been looking forward to the game all week, but I had such a long day that I just remembered it was on.
  4. Just starting to catch up on day 1 of the draft, but I will say that I felt like punching myself in the face when I heard a Wilkens soundbite on WGN radio in which he said he loved Vitters "because he is a 'baseball player,'" just like how Colvin is a "baseball player."
  5. It was clocked at 42 according to the article, but she was just using that as an example of how unreliable the stadium radar guns can be.
  6. Well in fairness to Lou, he did say Guzman needed to go to the BP because of cramps. Now he's on the DL because of a cramp. I think it was premature for this board to explode on Lou the way it did. His move didn't turn out to be all that bad, for now at least. It's not a cramp, though. This is an elbow issue rather than a muscle cramp in his leg. I wouldn't really rely on their initial release regarding his symptoms when they come out with something different and much worse right after that.
  7. Nice to hear about Samardzija. I wonder 2 things about his outing: 1) I wonder how much his velocity increased with the move to the pen and 2) I wonder if they're continuing to make him throw all his pitches with the same percentage or if they are allowing him to throw more fastballs in relief. I'd have to imagine that his percentage of fastballs thrown will go up in relief, which might be just as bad as him throwing fewer innings. I still can't think of any other reason for the move other than that the Cubs might be worried about his confidence or him souring a tad on baseball. But neither seems very likely, especially since football isn't really much of an option for him anymore.
  8. If Hendry feels that the Cubs are out of it by the deadline, he'll still have quite a bit of motivation to trade for major league-ready players as opposed to much higher ceiling prospects. While this season is a big audition for him as the GM, he may very well be able to keep the job at least into next season with a new owner.
  9. And it was a hamstring cramp, not an arm injury. And as expected, the Cubs made no actual attempt to use him as a setup man or closer. But clearly Guzman's elbow would've exploded if he had been left in the rotation as opposed to just developing soreness pitching out of the bullpen. Glad to see Marshall has a 1.05 WHIP locked in for the rest of the way, though.
  10. Today makes it a full week since Patterson last saw time at second. I wonder if he still has his infielder's glove or if he sold it on eBay.
  11. Not sure if this interests anyone, but it's worth posting:
  12. How bad an injury? I guess it was just a mild sprain, since he's stayed on and tallied 2 assists as England now lead 3-0 in the 70th. Thanks. I'm getting myself some Galaxy tickets soon, I'm pretty excited. :) Are they going to do the re-branding once he makes his debut? I believe I heard not only new uniforms, but new colors, as well. Anything beats green and yellow.
  13. Which is why we should get rid of him now, Dusty didn't care about it last year and was allowed to abuse young arms along the way. Who has the motivation to get rid of Hendry now? Most of the front office needs to at least make the playoffs this year, from McDonough on down. And even if the team is sold early in the fall, they'll still be around for most of the off-season. Jim is far too obsessed about tinkering with the bullpen just for the sake of tinkering.
  14. Most likely he'll waste away, but only for a short period of time. It's the Cubs way. Hendry is in full "see what sticks to the wall" mode. And it's not like he's going to care much about the organization's future.
  15. What a sad, sad organization... Are they really that concerned about his confidence?
  16. That might be the best play you'll ever see Ramirez make.
  17. He has a long, long history of arrests, suspensions, fights, and ejections. His recent arrest was far from his first run-in.
  18. And then he was reminded of the ridiculous amount of money he'd be making in endorsement deals alone.

  20. All boxes posted. Daytona, despite giving up 20 runs, narrowly avoided losing by the biggest deficit of the night in the FSL. Vero Beach lost to the Sarasota Reds 16-0.
  21. Downs came in and did even worse over 1.2 IP. And Phelps even worse that that in 1 inning. Daytona is getting destroyed, down 18-3 after 5.
  22. Jeff Curtin had a fantastic goal on a header off a corner kick right before he was escorted into the ad board. Fire actually have a lead. Not sure who with the Fire had the great idea to give out yellow thundersticks on the same day they played Columbus.
  23. Cotts struggled a bit more this time out, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks over 4.2 IP. Has anyone been following the VSL at all? Anyone doing well in the early going?
