  1. The Yankees were UP at the time. If they were down and this shout caused the Blue Jays to lose the game, then it would be a much bigger story. As it stands, it's much ado about nothing. The Jays didn't score any in the bottom of the 9th. They would have lost 7-5 instead of 10-5. Boo hoo.
  2. Do the salaries match up?
  3. You should like you have a cool gig. I live in Rockford, but have yet to see the Riverhawks play.
  4. Clemens will give up the 756th home run to Bonds. Book it.
  5. We gave up Nolasco, Mitre, and Pinto for the right to pay Juan Pierre for one year?
  6. A starting pitcher can only control half of his Win statistic. His offense controls the other half.
  7. Cause he plays for the Marlins. Also, Americans prefer their legends just like that: Americans.
  8. Who's Todd Helton?
  9. No one. The state of the game as it is today does not make for legends. Compare it with the 30s and 40s.
  10. Did you see that play during the Tigers/Cardinals game today? He was playing a very shallow centerfield, and Sean Casey hits a ball over his head. So not only was he very shallow to begin with, but he actually took a step IN before he started running backwards. Needless to say, the ball went over his head and two runs scored.
  11. Link with Ozzie is down on the Score. Anybody have a backup?
  12. I don't get it. Didn't Clemens have this clause in his contract last year with the Astros? Why is this all of a sudden becoming a big deal now?
  13. That's pretty funny.
  14. I see that the Yankees play the Giants this year in interleague play. Can you possibly imagine the hype if Bonds is one short of the record and Clemens is pitching??? OMG...what if Bonds ties or breaks Aaron's record off of Clemens??
  15. I would have scored it as an error and a sacrifice. No official AB.
  16. Yup That can't be. Sacrifice's doesn't count has an AB, but a FC counts as 0-1 in the box score.
  17. I assumed that every run distribution is equally likely to simplify things. Obviously this is not true in reality, but I wonder how well it performs.
  18. This is to all math/stat oriented people on NSBB. With the recent discussion of the Cubs Pythagorean Win Percentage here, I want to pose the question of how to prove this a more robust statistic: the expected number of wins given the number of games played. The formal problem description is this: Suppose the Cubs have scored X number of runs, while giving up Y number of runs over G number of games. Assume each "run distribution" is equally likely. For example, if G = 3, X = 10, and Y=9, then the Cubs run distribution could be (0,10,0), or (1,9,0), or (4,3,1), etc, each all equally likely. Likewise, the opponent run distribution could be (1,4,4), (0,9,0), (2,5,2), etc, again each all equally likely. What is the expected number of wins of the Cubs, in terms of G? Can anybody think of a analytical way to solve this problem, or would I need to bust out Matlab?
  19. It's stories like this that makes me scared to go outside. If so many freak accidents happen to these ball players, then I'm gonna be due for one anyday now.
  20. Too optimistic to be a Cubs fan? Screw you, man. This is exactly the type of mentality that's been plaguing this franchise for 99 years. Why not be optimistic? We have a good team on paper, we have momentum, we were playing the dregs of the league with the Nationals. Why not a good road trip and a sweep? "Screw you, man" is not an appropriate response. Sorry man, but I just got so angry.
  21. If you've won the Cy Young Award seven (!!) times, you likely will be a unanimous 1st ballot HOF-er, and you can still pitch in the big leagues with an ERA consistently under 2.50 then you know what? You can do whatever you want. Clemens is one amazing dude. Yeah, but he's a jagoff. Very very true. I hate that guy.

  23. Actually, it wouldn't be so bad. The Cubs always play well against Clemens. Jacque Jones hitting that home run to straight away center at Minute Maid off him after he plunked him in the back in his last AB still brings a smile to my face. Clemens will give the rest of the Central a few more losses, and the Astros are going to be a non-factor with or without him anyways.
  24. How do you suggest he gets tested?
