  1. Girardi probably wants to win.
  2. For some reason, these jokes are a lot funnier when he's not the Cubs manager anymore.
  3. :lmao: Quality. Another funny sign: http://www.nationalchamps.net/2003/sub/cheer/images/volsHerbstreit.jpg Do you know where your daughter is?
  4. i was under the impression that you were much younger than that Freaking' Mets. I'm sick of upstart johnny-come-lately teams coming into the league and taking away championships.
  5. During Baseball Tonight, John Kruk said something like "If you're going to cork your bat or use pine tar, hide it better." I was struck by this comment being made in some sort of official capacity. It seems that Kruk is not taking a hard stance against cheating in baseball. In other words, he's saying "If you're going to cheat, don't get caught." Historically, is this baseball's mentality towards cheating? Gaylord Perry was notorious for throwing the spitball, so much so that we talk about it not with a disparaging tone of voice, but with an anecdotal tone of voice. It's become part of baseball lore, and he's still in the Hall of Fame. But it does bring up an interesting topic of conversation. Is cheating a "part" of the game? Is using pine tar or a corked bat or throwing the spitball baseball's version of driving over the speed limit?
  6. Ouch...right in the gooch with Molina.
  7. About time Jeff Weaver started pitching to his potential.
  8. See Derek Lowe's 2004 season and the contract that he got. He was downright bad that year, but redeemed himself in the playoffs and parlayed that into $9M/year. Derek Lowe isn't a mediocre pitcher. He's quite decent.
  9. Aren't GMs wary of mediocre pitchers who have good runs in the postseason? I certainly wouldn't open my wallet wide for them. A mediocre pitcher with one good game is still a mediocre pitcher.
  10. from what i can tell pierre didn't like it on the north side of town. i'm glad. But Cubs players always say they loved the northside more than anywhere else.
  11. It just isn't fair that the Cardinals make the WS. We owned that team.
  12. Whoa there...calm down before you start typing.
  13. I'd also like to know this. Do they count the people that tune in for only a part of the game? For example, I know I usually couldn't make it past the 3rd inning this year. I think they're measured by having some households a device that tracks their TV viewing habits. This is then extrapolated to the entire region.
  14. Are you fine with your starting rotation of Z/Marshall/Miller/Guzman/Marmol? Cause that's probably all we can get after picking up the tabs for ARod and Soriano and Aramis.
  15. Ah, didn't check it. Lock this thread up then.
  16. Macha would absolutely hate the Cubs.
  17. Link What started as just a flight of fancy has started to pick up steam. If the Cubs have an opportunity to acquire him, they must jump at that opportunity. Please make this happen.
  18. LOL...I was asking myself the EXACT same question when I read the thread title.
  19. Except that was for the NFC Championship game. :(
  20. Not until 2011 at the earliest. Link Yeah well...there's no way the NFL would allow a Super Bowl game to be played in a non-domed stadium in a non-weather climate. Hell, it's rare for a domed cold-weather climate stadium to get a game, like Detroit did last year.
  21. See, I don't understand this line of thinking. WHO CARES if a WC makes/wins the World Series? They were obviously a good team to begin with, and if the other teams were truly better, they'd prove it. Second place teams win championships in the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Why is it such a travesty when it happens in baseball? Tradition I guess. For a hundred years, the World Series winner has to be on top of the standings in their league/division.
  22. If anybody else has any tickets, PM me a price. I'd love to go as well.
  23. The only "problem" was our 66-96 record. You solve the problem by either getting more hitting or better pitching. Sure our hitting might have been above average, but if it's the easiest and most effective thing to improve, then we have to concentrate on it.
