  1. Dag nab it...........I wanted Theriot to start again.
  2. I can't remember if this was discussed or not. I seem to remember reading a post in regards to the Cubs obtaining Willy Taveras, but I think that was just an idea that a poster gave as an option. Anyways it seems that the Cubs have shown atleast enough interest in CF Willy Taveras to speak with the Astros. Near the end of the article, the availability of Ichiro is briefly discussed. He will be available after next season and it seems that he will explore free agency. I wonder if Seattle will consider trading him this off season if they feel they are going to lose him after the 2007 season.
  3. Two young prospects were called up in that series between Milwaukee and Arizona. Tony Gwynn Jr. was also called up by the Brewers. But, he will see limited action in CF.
  4. I don't see the Padres making this deal considering Kottaras is their top prospect and they've been using the Piazza/Bard platoon just to pass the time until Kottaras is ready. Playoffs or not....they just can't leave themselves with that catching situation for next year and years to come. Maybe if deal was made that involved Barrett to the Padres then I could see it, but not just Maddux and a B level prospect. But even then Maddux and Barrett for Kottaras and ___________?????????
  5. i bet cardinal fans world wide are bitching about this stat DFA
  6. The 1969 season is a season that truly chronicles a Cubs fans' pain and frustration. It's just overshadowed now because of the 2003 season.
  7. This prevents the Cubs from having to face him.
  8. Yeah, but the difference would be that the Cubs could retain each of those players for a long time as opposed to being forced into trading them because they don't have the budget. The hypothetical brings together young players of approximately the same age that would play together for many years to come. Why especially Barrett? He's not exactly irreplaceable. Good offensively, but not irreplaceable.
  9. They might be willing to take a look at Dempster. Link to article
  10. Why would you just give Jacque away when he holds value for playoff contending teams right now?
  11. Who would you have in CF next year then? I dont' think Pie is quite ready. My overall problem with Pierre is his weak arm. I atleast want runner to think twice about stretching for an extra base. I'd prefer they move Jacque to center until Pie is ready and sign Trot Nixon for right field. Then a strong OBP is provided by Nixon and Jones provides power from CF.
  12. Link So he does.....anyways the Cubs would probably want to hang on to him for next year. I don't see one for Dempster listed. I standby a team refusing to give NTCs. Schuerholz refuses to give them. Although he is forced to deal with them in players he receives that already have NTCs in their contract.
  13. Hmmm.....Cot's Baseball Contracts doesn't list either of them having a no trade clause. Plus, I just can't believe the Cubs would have agreed to a NTC with them.
  14. The Red Sox are my favorite AL team, and I am spending more time supporting Red Sox Nation. So you've been rooting for the White Sox to beat the Yankees this weekend?
  15. Go Theriot!!! It would be great to see him do well here and earn some more playing time.
  16. Indirectly? His comments sounded direct to me. And that was another stupid thing Baker said/did. And that should explain Walker's angst and defensiveness. I don't know what kind of work you do, but put yourself in Walker's position. If my school had a poor performance score and in the newspaper my principal pointed the finger at me directly, I can almost guarantee you, I'm not going to humbly accept it. and yes, someone likely would be thrown under the bus when I'm asked about it. I'm not a Baker apologist and I really like Walker. But, like you mentioned iin a previous post that Walker is the type of guy that appreciates and uses candor in what he says. Well, then he has to be able accept/appreciate Baker's candor in THIS particular situation. Watching the conference, I didn't feel he criticized Walker but rather was explaining the game situation as he saw it.
  17. I saw the Maddux post game conference. He was being pressured with questions about it and was just trying to be very diplomatic. He further said, "I've been in this game long enough and I don't believe what is on sportscenter." He was talking about trade rumors. Then he went on to try to explain and I'm paraphrasing here that people just need to let it play out and see what really happens. He then said I love Chicago , love the fans and this where I love to play. Edit to add: He also said how great the organization has been to him, but oddly enough they don't print that in the paper.
  18. Which Gary Matthews Jr. will people see next year? Defensively he is great, but offensively will it be a continuation of what he is doing this year or will he revert back to what he was in previous years?
  19. Assuming the Cubs hang on to Jones and he is not dealt before the deadline, I would consider moving him to CF until Pie is ready and signing Trot Nixon to play RF. This helps the Cubs in OBP and lack of power from a rightfielder is supplemented with the power jones provides from CF. Hatteberg is interesting on the list. He is 37 and would come cheap for a season(I'm guessing). He would solidify the bench coming in for Ramirez and fillin occasionally for Derrek Lee if he needs a rest. Obviously, if he can get starting job he would take that, but if he is forced to sign as a bench player then I think the Cubs would be a good fit. Jason Schmidt.....get this contract done Hendry. This still leaves LF. Hmmm....I think I would like to see some sort of trade here. I'm just not that big on Carlos Lee in LF.
  20. a guy is an idiot because doctors failed to provide the expected level of care, and in so doing probably cost him millions of dollars? if it turns out there is no merit, fine, he's an idiot. but if what is alleged in that article is properly plead and true, he wins. not giving an MRI is clearly outside of what an ortho at a Chicago teaching hospital would ordinarily do in providing care to a professional athelete. I think that post was a play on how Kenny Williams reacted to Frank Thomas' reaction when he wasn't retained by the White Sox. Williams was angry with what Thomas said and called him an "idiot". seemed to me his play was using Williams words in another context to express his opinion of Thomas's lawsuit. I just assumed it to be a joke. Who knows? But, I'm sure he'll clarify.

  22. NO!!!! Why involve the Padres?? And Howry for Vazquez or Garcia I would not do. I would demand Broadway and Fields in return for Howry. Do you know Kottaras?
  23. According to Paul Sullivan, Jacque Jones used the bottom of the ninth inning to stand at the top of the steps and get into an argument with fans. They jarred back and forth until security finally escorted the fans from from Wrigley. Sullivan was very critical of Baker and the coaching staff for allowing this to happen. He said that they had to be aware of the situation considering it was more than just a momentary exchange. Todd Walker took issue with the fact that both Dusty Baker and Bob Brenly said that Walker bobbled the ball preventing a double play from occurring. Sullivan said this is very reminiscent of the Steve Stone situation. Walker went and watched video specifically to hear Brenly's call on the play. NOTE: Sullivan explained all of this on Chicago Tribune Live on CSN. The replay is on at 1:00am cst for those interested.
  24. how would a fox/kottaras platoon look in the future? would the padres be willing to give him up? how's his d btw? The Padres are very high on him and it may take more to get him than that. His numbers at AA: 276/394/451. Supposedly he has a cannon for an arm. He was promoted to AAA over the All-Star break and did well in his first game with Portland. I believe he has a cannon for an arm. Kottaras as a primary catcher with either Soto or Fox as a back-up would be decent. Kottaras is a left, so he would get the bulk of playing time. I like Kottaras as a player. I think the Padres view him as competing for a starting spot next spring and likely will try to pair him with a veteran catcher. If the Cubs could get him for just the cost of a middle reliever, even one like Howry, I'd do it. The only way the Padres do the deal is if they believe a SP like Vasquez is what is needed to finish the final playoff push. maybe the cubs could send pierre along with howry to the sox, the sox send garcia/vasquez & a good prospect like aldridge or quinn to the padres, and the cubs get kottaras from the pad's & haeger from the sox. The Cubs and a knuckleballer spells danger!
