  1. Arod is injured. That's why he didn't play. No he's not he played in the eight and ninth inning of that game and played the entire game today. No, he was injured. He was expected to miss two or three day, but he's playing through it. I know about his toe. But, Torre even said and I'm paraphrasing here that the reason that Arod was not starting was due to his three errors and give him a chance to get his head back in it. On "Mike and Mike In the Morning", that is what they were saying about the situation. And Mike Greenberg applauded Torre for not hiding and saying it was injury related. He may have said that, but I saw a clip of Torre on ESPN News after the X-Rays came up negative saying he wasn't starting A-Rod because he wanted to give him a day for his toe. He then said he might be able to pinch hit (which he did), and that he should be back in the lineup Wednesday. Yep, if Torre said anything about Arod not starting because of the errors, no one at the NY Times or the Daily News heard about it. In the NY Times, Torre specifically stated that he was giving Arod a day off for his toe. It really doesn't matter, anyway. It would be stupid for Torre to bench Arod after his errors just as it would be stupid for Baker to bench Walker for the same. Bench a guy who doesn't hustle, but don't bench a guy for misplaying a grounder or bobbling a ball. Althoug I'm not necessarily sure Walker was "benched" due to the errors. Even without those errors, Neifi probably still would have started since his numbers against Oswalt have been very good and Walker has had troubles with Oswalt. Plus, Dusty views Neifi as the defensive wizard.
  2. Agreed. The "he needs rehab" talk in this thread has been a bit over the top. And has this been confirmed that he's going to be gone? Who was our 3B coach during tonight's game? Bullpen coach.....Juan Lopez
  3. Rings spelled with a "z". Nice touch!!!
  4. No respect for Jody! He is listed at number three on that list.
  5. Ha! He was taking cell phone calls during the game. And he is the one talking about professionalism.

  7. Are you related or a family friend to him? I'm ot kidding or being sarcastic. It's an actual question. No. But I do think he is a productive player. I agree. But, he did have a bad game on Sunday and is not immune to a benching after that kind of game. Sort of like Arod not starting yesterday after his 3 error game. It's hard to argue Theriot's chance to start. Neifi on the other hand is another story, but he does have very good numbers against Oswalt that warranted his start yesterday(even though I hate him in there). Neifi has good numbers vs. Oswalt so Neifi starts against him. Walker has very good numbers against Clemens, but Walker doesn't start against him. My point is if a player with good numbers is benched in favor of the future /possible future then I personally can deal with it. As is the case with the Theriot start. I would have like to have seen Theriot start yesterday and even wrote it in yesterday's thread. I'm not saying that Theriot is the answer, but who knows? And the only way to find out is to play him.

  11. Did that game just start? It rained here earlier, but I didn't know it was still raining in the city. Yep, bottom of the first right now.
  12. Brenly said, "I'm sure Nevin would have like to have swung the bat there and make something happen." Well, even if hit a home run it would have been a solo homer. A walk is making things happen as well.
  13. Pagan has 1 BB in 47 ABs. 1. I don't care if you hate OBP with all your heart and soul because your wife cheated on you with it. That just shows putrid plate discipline. Another walk for Pagan.
  14. Well, it is good to see that desire to play is #1 on his list.
  15. His life wasn't cut short (he died in 1993 at age 72), but his baseball career did end at age 35 due to an automobile accident that paralyzed him from the waist. It's also a shame that he had to play in the Negro Leagues from 1941-1947. If he'd had a chance to play a full major league career, he'd be regarded possibly the best catcher ever to play the game. I was thinking he died when I wrote that even though I knew he was paralyzed from that accident. He might have been the best had he had a chance, but I couldn't judge based on that.
  16. Nixon really isn't in the same leage as Abreu. Even if Abreu's drop in power is permanent, his OBP is still tons better than Nixon. I agree in that regard, but there is also a big difference in cost. Nixon currently makes 6.5 mil a year and Abreu makes 13 mil this year and 15 mil for next year. On top of that, Abreu expects to be compensated for waiving his NTC. And I'm assuming the Phillies will expect the team that acquires him to cover that fee at least some of it.
  17. Who? Just to throw it out there.....Trot Nixon Nixon: (2006)283AB--AVG .304 | HR 6 | RBI 44 | OBP .407 | SLG .438 (career) .281/.369/.485 Abreu: (2006)310AB--AVG .287 | HR 8 | RBI 62 | OBP .438 | SLG .452 (career) .302/.413/.508 Nixon is a free agent and would be a heck of a lot cheaper. Abreu is exactly one month older so age makes no difference in this case. Edit to fix a stat.
  18. Wow! That was not very easy. 1. Bench 2. Berra 3. Cochrane 4. Dickey 5. Hartnett 6. Fisk 7. Piazza 8. Lombardi 9. Schang 10. Simmons Note: Campanella was left off because of games played or lack there of. It is a shame his life was cut short.
  19. No one was hostile. We supported our arguments and you didn't. And your post here tells me all I need to know about you. And you won't be missed. And if we backed up "sterotypes" by being knowledgeable and calling out a bigot when we see one, well kudos for us. Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split ya! The irony is that he sees "hostility" in the responses to his posts, but sees no "hostility" in Ozzie's retort to Mariotti. Also, what is QFT? I've seen it a few times and have no idea what the acronym stands for.
  20. Any chance they want to unload J.D. Drew? If not, how about Maddux for Eithier? They really want pitching in LA. Since they have a plethora of outfielders, they might be willing to part with Kemp since he is back in AAA. But, at this point I don't think Eithier will be going anywhere unless they're completely blown away by an offer. But, I really like Eithier also. Even for Kemp, Williamson might need to be included with Maddux.
  21. Maybe you're just comparing it the Cubs ability to turn perfectly good lemons into rotten ones? That's not intended to be a slam, but when's the last time the Cubs saw improvement from players they've signed? And in all fairness, the Cards have definitely had their share of bad signings. People seem to remember the drastic turnarounds, but there are none to be seen this season. Most recently.......Jacque Jones and Ryan Dempster of the players on the current roster.
  22. Cubs are .500 after the all star break! Now that's the Cubs we know and love.
  23. The hit and run is the stupidest play in all of baseball. I hate the hit and run, too, but if the manager calls for it, it would be nice for the guy at the plate to swing at the ball. FWIW, Tony LaRussa loves the hit and run. Much of his spring training drills focus on it.
