  1. It is worth it to have Rusch start just to see him dive back into first base as he just did.
  2. Tigers up 3 games now since the Sox lost and the Tigers just won 2-1 in Seattle.
  3. Baker is just defensive. Everyday he has to hear about his job security. I not apologizing for him and no way am I a Dusty Baker backer, but I do think his reaction is very natural. Other managers in the same position would react also. The reaction would depend on the personality. Leland would chew out the media, Guillen would curse at everyone, and GM Bowden would just go get blasted. Baker just feels that any move he makes will be scrutinized whether it is the right move or not because it is him making the move. That being said I have no idea why he doesn't recognize that playing the youth(including Hill, Theriot, and Restovich to name a few) would atleast be defensible. It would be hard to argue that Theriot should ride the pine and Neifi start everyday especially in a lost season(good season too). His defense that we need to see what the young guys can do on an everyday basis would get a few more fans on his side. But, he just doesn't see that and is so gung ho on experience/veterans.
  4. Bill Hall is also a free agent after the season. Why we would want him considering that is beyond me though. Those were my thoughts as well. We can just sign Hall as a FA in the offseason. I'd ask for Hart or Gallardo. HaHa........brewerfan.net is laughing! Just kidding........here is a post from there in regards to this: "Yes, that board was a little better but not much. Lets see: Hall for Maddux - uh....NO Gallardo for Maddux- uh...NO Braun for Maddux-uh.....NO Hart for Maddux-uh......NO The most interesting thing I learned is that Bill Hall is a free agent next season (LOL) and that the Cubs should wait to the offseason to sign him. Must be some Wrigley liquified bleacher bums writing this stuff...... Villaneuva- maybe???"
  5. The whole damn team with the exception of Lee is what you described. I singled out Jones because from an offensive standpoint, he was the big free agent pick up this past off season.
  6. I think Stone is a very good announcer but should stay out of the GM chair. Just as Hawk Harrelson is one of the best broadcasters in baseball today, he was also not fit for the GM chair.
  7. I'd go with the bat. Someone who can hit both left and right handers. Basically no glaring deficiency in one (i.e. Jacque Jones). Even though I think Jones overall is a pretty good hitter, I don't think he is a very good fit on this team(i.e left handed hitting deficient).
  8. Mike Rivera solo HR off Dempster. Dempster's first batter of the night.
  9. Dempster might be looking more attractive to them. Unless they just want to stick with Baez and Saito.
  10. Anyone know how many walks for the Cubs tonight?
  11. If Walker can hit a few more homers before the end of the trading deadline, it might sweeten a deal for him a little bit.
  12. Didn't they just bring Lima in a couple of days ago? That's a rude welcoming.
  13. Aram was only going to get a single. But, if he really wants to watch the ball maybe he should buy a ticket and sit in he stands.
  14. sorry, wrong thread
  15. I heard him mention this before on his regular stint on the Score 670. Stone is extremely high on Izturis. He has spoken about what he feels the Cubs could do. He has mentioned an Aram for Izturis deal. When I heard him discuss it he didn't go too far into a type of deal. He just mentioned Ramirez and Izturis would/should be the two main components in his hypothetical. As of right now, I don't think this would be a very good move for the Cubs. The Cubs need all the power than can get and he should snap out of his funk. If not this season then next.
  16. Why Ramirez? He is not exactly untouchable. I'm sure there are a lot of deals for him that the Cubs can benefit from. If the deal is/seems right then I wouldn't hesitate. Personally, I'd rather see a team that is not afraid to make moves versus a team that stands idly by and watches other teams make moves to improve.
  17. Brewers win 8-2. Zambrano only lasts five innings.
  18. Making fun of the fat drunk isn't nearly as fun when the season is already over. Wasn't Weaver part of the Tiger team that was accused of sexually inappropriate behavior with flight attendants on their team charter? They were drunk and sexually harassing the female flight attendants. If I recall correctly Weaver was one of the main culprits. I don't know for sure the outcome of that situation, but Weaver and Ponson on the team plane could be interesting.
  19. Side note: Nomar just hbp for the second time tonight. He was hbp three times on Tuesday. Geez. What is the record for hbp in a week?
  20. Did you hear Brenly on that? It seemed as if he viewed Aramis not running as a personal insult. Which he probably did considering I bet he had to work his tail off to put himself in a position to be an everyday major leaguer. So both Len and Bob called him out on that.
  21. Fine, I'm requesting that the entire thread be deleted. Taking your ball and going home? Yes...it was misleading and I've gotten a couple complaints so it is better it just be eradicated. Edit to add.....it serves no purpose any longer since the title became the object of the response. So it really has no merit. It is not really a "taking the ball and going home" situation. But, this thread does not seem conducive to baseball discussion so I probably shouldn't have posted it to begin with.
  22. Bill Hall is also a free agent after the season. Why we would want him considering that is beyond me though. Those were my thoughts as well. We can just sign Hall as a FA in the offseason. I'd ask for Hart or Gallardo. Then they might have to get in a bidding war with a team that needs a second basemen.....the Mets come to mind. Unless the Mets have a prospect coming up to play second that they want to use. Hall and his agent aren't stupid. There's little likelihood of him signing with the Cubs before testing free agency without a hefty contract. PS- Bill Hall is Alfonso Soriano without the hype. Interpret that how you will. I'm not disagreeing with you on that. But, the Brewers don't seem to think so. They have Weeks and they seem to be set on Hardy at shortstop.

  24. Bill Hall is also a free agent after the season. Why we would want him considering that is beyond me though. Well, they would need a second baseman considering Walker is most likely gone next season. Unless Neifi is going to be full time. He also can play SS and 3b, so he is versatile if injuries occur. But, ultimately he is an upgrade at second base for the Cubs. He provides some power the Cubs could use. They would just need to make it a point to re sign him for next season. Granted, it would depend on how much/how long he is looking for in terms of his contract.
