  1. I will say Bagent's internal clock is way better than Fields's. Except for that sack at the end of half, he's been prompt with getting rid of the ball or getting out of the pocket. That's something that Fields hasn't gotten ahold of in 3 years.
  2. Folks, he can't actually throw that far its not a let him or not let him situation
  3. I'm glad we got to watch the team really squander an entire drive and somehow end up in the position where they had possession with 15 seconds and somehow not used any of their timeouts, which is just insane. Eberflus should be fired for that alone.
  4. It's a better comp, imo, because the "challenger" for the starter is someone who people project way more fantasies on that doesn't make any sense, whereas there was at least some semblance of an argument to make for Grossman v. Orton.
  5. roughly 2 minutes and 3 time outs - big moment for Bagent, lets see if he can complete a pass over 8 yards
  6. It’s not gonna be Grossman vs Orton, it’ll be closer to Cutler vs McCown. but the real smart ones know that none of this likely matters and the next starting QB isn’t yet on the roster
  7. Bad play by Stevenson, it’s 2nd and 25, don’t give them a free set of downs for no reason dude
  8. One thing that’s very consistent about this team is it cannot get a pass rush at all (except when it blitzes everyone) nice play by Brisker, woulda been cool to come down with it
  9. Yes if he has a good game a lot of very dumb people will have very dumb ideas but that’s not our problem, it’s mostly a sports radio problem
  10. I gotta say, Bagent looks pretty competent out there. May be legit Back Up material
  11. Wow Brian Hoyer is really bad
  12. Lmao it’s wild that the Bears are openly not trying to throw much at all and the Raiders still are getting gashed for long runs
  13. When you watch Mahomes play.....I don't think there's any way the Bears could have ruined that guy. It's clearly not just scheme and coaching, the guy processes information lightning fast, has insanely good accuracy, feel in the pocket, and does stupid stuff like no-look passes that are right on the money. I think he's easily a HOF player and would have made Matt Nagy look like an offensive genius. I think when it comes down to QBs, you can break them up into three categories: Guys who were never gonna make it, Guys who with proper coaching could be above average to very good, and Dudes who were always gonna be Dudes. I think that middle category is likely smaller than we'd like to think. Mitch Trubisky, I think, is in that first category. No amount of amazing coaching is going to change the fact Mitch doesn't have that special talent to be a starter in the NFL. Buuuuuut, it's possible Fields is in that middle category of guys where coaching matters. It's kind of one of those things you can usually only tell after the guys career is pretty much over already.
  14. I don't know, Getsy couldn't draw up a good gameplan consistently for a guy who's tremendously physically talented, I'm not sure I feel confident he can draw up a good gameplan for a guy who's significantly more limited than Fields. Also, this is very funny: https://x.com/HogeAndJahns/status/1715371864225091836?s=20
  15. My go-to for a game like this is that 2005 season when Kyle Orton was a rookie and was terrible but just terrible enough to tough out an 11-5 season on the back of a tremendous defense and one of my favorite Bears of all time, Thomas Jones
  16. My friends, I did something I don't recommend. I was curious how badly the Bears screwed up first round picks on QBs, so I went and looked at a list of their history of first round picks and...I think I really hurt myself. Kevin White....Shea McClellin...Gabe Carimi...Chris Williams....Cedric Benson...David Terrell...Trubisky 2nd overall...Four seasons in the last 20 where we had no 1st round pick at all. Good god. The numbers of busts and underachievers, I had forgotten how many of them there were. But one other thing stood out and that was that the Bears just...don't draft that many QBs highly. We have a history of "ruining" QB talent but...the Bears have only drafted 3 QBs in the 1st round in the last 24 years. (And Grossman was the 22nd overall so not really...slated to be generational talent or anything). Trubisky drafted 2nd overall is still a pretty absurd reach, just a gobsmacking blunder when you look at the QBs that followed him, but at least the pick was an attempt to get franchise changing talent at QB. What I'm struck with most looking over the list is just how often the Bears have failed at acquiring talent at the highest levels of the draft, and curiosity as to why they haven't really drafted QBs more often.
  17. It’s actually somewhat comforting to hear some blame placed squarely on Fields and not just on very poorly designed offensive scheming and Oline play. If things are where they need to be for Fields to succeed (snaps notwithstanding) and he’s still completely missing what he needs to do, well, it may still be a coaching failure, but at least we can see he’s not executing according to where an NFL caliber player should be. There are things he should be able to do at this point, and he’s not doing them, and some of them are elementary. it’s sad, but at least it’s clarifying
  18. Tyson Bagent is gonna start and this game will be as ugly and depressing as any Jimmy Clausen start
  19. I don't think there's a single fan thats thinks its good they're the worst team in the league for the 2nd year in a row. I think the vast majority were hoping the Bears were competitive this year while having realistic expectations that they probably wouldn't be competitive enough for a playoff spot - the Bears have underperformed those modest expectations. THAT BEING THE CASE - it is better to have the 1st and 2nd overall pick than whatever else, but its small consolation.
  20. We don't have to hope they tank, they're tanking. They're going to have two first round picks in the top 5 picks of the draft. I'm not super enthused about keeping Fields and having him start in front of a top QB pick like Williams because the vibes....will be all sorts of off there. What do you do if Fields has a pretty good season? Ideally this is a smart move - if we're talking cold calculations of talent and resources, but dealing with actual human beings...I dunno. You probably still have to do it, though. The worst option to me though is hoping some later round QB hits, eventually. Thats just not a way to get an elite QB talent.
  21. By the way, it's so Bears that the week when momentum has really moved towards using that 1st overall pick on a QB, a guy people have been raving about and saying things about how he's a generational talent....he goes and has a terrible game
  22. I'm as low as I've ever been on Fields after yesterday. I was sticking it out even after the first 3 weeks, but even accounting for everything - the bad snaps, the weak blocking, the poor play calling - Fields looked indecisive, football slow, and inaccurate. At a certain point it has to be unacceptable. I'm not totally out on him, but the pendulum has swung from Optimism to Pessimism. Here's hoping the injury isn't serious enough to take away a significant portion of this season, because the next 11 weeks are crucial for evaluation. The Bears are the only team - truly the only team in the entire NFL where hitting 100 yards passing is an open question every week. That just can't be the reality in the modern NFL, we're way past that. And somehow this is always the goddamn case for this team. Ugh.
  23. Which play did Fields get hurt on? I want to calibrate my judgment of how poorly he played while knowing when he got hurt
  24. Everything’s been said but weirdly the thing that bothers me the most are the bad snaps. It’s game 6 of a professional football season and I think a majority of the snaps were off in some way. How does that even happen??
  25. I'll be in attendance, my second ever Bears game. My first game was Fields's start against the Lions in 2021 when he had a pretty good bounce back game and beat them. So, hoping for a repeat.
