  1. ??? Is the defense literally non existent if they aren’t getting turnovers? It can’t be that bad
  2. I shouldn't be too mad right now - the Bears are a bad team. But they have genuinely outplayed the Lions to this point. And this is the kind of game that the Lions could run away with after half, particularly because they get the ball. But I'm, overall, pretty happy with how Fields has played. He's making some of his typical mistakes - but he's also playing very well in extremely hostile conditions while clearly suffering from his hand. It would be awesome if the Oline elevated and the running game helped him out - things would be so much easier.
  3. I suppose we’re seeing the outcome of moving Jenkins from the right side which was working awesome
  4. it’s completely baffling to me how the bears are down now but so it goes. Also they’ll almost certainly be down two scores by the time they get the ball again the football gods get angered when you squander turnovers. You get punished for not scoring off them
  5. They need to give him something easy to hit on a blitz - I'd have to watch again to see if someone was there, but bleh This is about worst case scenario though for that 3rd down - no clock runs and the Lions get a chance for a back-to-back
  6. I would not run on 1st down until something changes in the Lions alignment. It ain't working God, Fields's balance turns that from a 1 yard gain to a 5 yard gain. It's cool to be reminded of just how physically talented this dude is.
  7. damn that as nifty throw to Mooney - a rocket on the run while moving away from defenders thats the type of play that makes Fields potentially special
  8. Maybe? The offensive line isn't giving him any favors right now - and Detroit is not letting us run on early downs. They need to play action and execute a bit to make them back off. I actually like how Fields is playing at the moment - warts and all. He can't factor in his wide receiver inexplicably fumbling.
  9. Good lord. I guess we have to remember the team is Bad. WHat the hell man
  10. What the hell is going on with the offensive line Stop doing this
  11. OK NEVER MIND LETS GO BABY
  12. woof its gonna be a hard day for the defense - they lucked into a huge turnover (and got zero off it) but they aren't gonna be able to hold the Lions down too much. This team is just way too dynamic
  13. It's a mistake that he shouldn't be making, IMO, at this point.
  14. Ok that series was a huge missed opportunity Fields once again handing off to a back who has a guy in his face, then an inexplicable deep throw on 2nd and 16, then..that oh well
  15. LETS GO BABY I’ve been a Tyrique Stephenson Defender so I doubly like to see that
  16. If the Bears defense keep them under 30, I consider it a pretty good win. I don't think it's specifically the Bears D thats susceptible to competent QB play - EVERYONE is susceptible to competent QB play. Good QBs carve up defenses, there's almost nothing a defense can do to stop a good QB from moving the ball and scoring points. The way the game is called now - emphasis on the safety of the QB, more rigorous enforcement of illegal contact, the sophistication of play calling and route running - it actually makes it virtually impossible to shut down an offense with an effective QB. It's what the NFL has been angling towards for over 20 years. You're not completely helpless, but the deck is stacked against you and you have to hope for turnovers, sacks, and turning as many drives into field goals rather than touchdowns. All the more reason why it's absolutely crucial to get a star QB and a good offense. It is the bare minimum to being successful in the modern NFL. Occasionally you get a couple freak teams that can be elite with an exceptional defense and a middling offense, but you are fighting against the current. And there's no reason to fight the way things are going. For some reason, though, the Bears are stuck with it.
  17. IMO, if Fields plays like that and you can get a 2nd rounder for him, you trade him. If you can get a 3rd rounder for him, I keep him for another year, let him play in front of whoever we draft, and see how it goes. The ideal scenario is you don't have to spend draft capital on a position you already spent a significant amount of capital on just a few years ago. If you have to, well, you do. But it really sucks, and sucks away potential talent from other needed areas on the roster.
  18. If he balls out I think there's a chance they don't draft a QB (that all depends on where the Bears picks end up, what chance they have at the tip top of the QB class) The problem with assessing him as trade value is that its not just quality of play - it also encompasses his contract situation, which is set to either end or increase substantially
  19. Something broke inside me when I rewatched tape of the first play of the Bears-Vikings game. When I first saw it (I was at the game), I was absolutely furious at the play design and the offensive line play - on rewatch, its clear that it's Justin's fault and he absolutely should know there's a free rusher on his blindside and should either check out of the play or be prepared for that rusher. And somehow, like 30 games into his career, he messes up that bad. That play (and the rest of the game he played), was the straw on my camel's back. For whatever reason, I tipped from a 51% in favor of Fields, to a 51% in favor of moving on. I'm gonna remain as optimistic as I can about the next 7 games, but I'm not holding out too much faith.
  20. God damnit you're absolutely right
  21. The theory from the Chicago sports media people was that the reason why Cris Collinsworth was so effusive in his praise for Bagent (and negative on Fields) during the LA game was that it all came from Getsy. I thought it was ridiculous when I heard it, but now I'm not so sure, honestly.
  22. I watched most of the Texans-Bengals game and.... it's like watching a different sport when I watch the Bears game. It was such an electric, exciting game. Huge swings in momentum, amazing plays, incredible touch passes (by BOTH Quarterbacks) - stuff you just never see by the Bears. I wish Bears football could be like that.
  23. Fields may be incapable of running the gameplay from Carolina and Oakland but that same game plan led to a 3 score loss against LA, and I think you'd likely have a similar outcome here. You can't play that way against a team that can put up points. I'm not out on Fields yet. I'm going to give him the final 7 games before I make a final evaluation. But to paraphrase Laurence Holmes, I've grabbed my jacket and I'm walking towards the door. He's gonna have to do a whole lot in these final games to sway my mind. Even if he does, I'm not sure I'd pass up a Caleb Williams if given the opportunity. Also, it doesn't really matter whatever me, you, or idiot sports callers decide. Ultimately that call rests entirely on the Bears organization. And they may already be out on him, or at least the coaching staff is (if the leaks about Getsy are right).
  24. No, the team gets actively worse when the coaches get more time to plan for the opponent, for some reason. Not a great indicator of the strength of the coaching staff. My heart says the Bears keep it close and they cover the spread, but my brain tells me they're gonna lose pretty handily. It'd be nice if Justin has a nice game and keeps it close though.
  25. Watching the Youtube QB guys run tape on Bagent's game and, despite knowing intellectually this was bound to happen when more teams had more tape on him, it's wild to see him shrivel and turn back into a pumpkin in this game. Even at his best, he was pretty limited, but he was accurate and decisive. In this game, he's late on decisions, makes obvious mistakes into coverage, and is wildly inaccurate. How does that happen? It's not just opposing defenses figuring you out. But we've seen it play out with countless QBs. So however it happens, we know it happens. It's possible we squeezed as much magical back up QB play out of this guy before he left his magic slippers at the castle.
