  1. If they throw enough prospects at 30+ players, they'll be us. Luckily we can expend payroll to keep these 30+ players around forever (good and bad) plus our 'prospects' usually suck
  2. Brewers with Roy Halladay would be scary but still not scary enough for me to just hand them the division. I'd love for them to throw away some of their great prospects for what a year and half of Roy Halladay? I like Halladay as much as the next guy but he's already 32 and has had a lot of wear and tear on that shoulder. If they keep throwing prospects at rentals we'll never have to worry about them again.
  3. Same thing with THE GREAT BOSTON COLLAPSE (they lost when having an 8 run lead about a week ago) I swear that happens a few times a year (recently its been the Cubs that have pulled off the ridiculous comebacks) and no one talks about it nearly as much as when it happened to Boston. Ridiculous. I mean heck about a month ago Cleveland came back, what, 6 runs down with 2 outs in the 9th and won? Come on, thats hella cool too and no one talked about it past the day it happened.
  4. I don't really mind Ryan Braun off the field, it seems like a lot of Cubs/Cards fans are going to great lengths to hate the guy. Now, on the field I despise him, of course. He has done a great many terrible things to my favorite team. I just thnk he's harmless overall, and he is somewhat justified in complaining about his front office letting their pitching completely disintegrate.
  5. Yeah I'm really pleased with the lineup with Soriano hitting 6th. The 1-5 are all now extraordinarily competent, and when Soriano gets his swing back he wont be a terrible drag on the lineup, and will knock in a faire share himself. In fact, its gonna be a pretty darn good lineup top to bottom if/when Bradley starts hitting since Fontenot and Soto have been coming around themselves. It just was so painful giving Soriano a guaranteed 5-6 at bats every game when he literally could not get on base.
  6. I was at the Vazquez v. Dempster game last year where we totally romped, Dempster went into the 9th inning and Eric Patterson hit a home run. I hope this game is similar.
  7. Yeah this team looks a lot better lately, hopefully they continue to play well into the all-star break.
  8. Did anyone else think that Aramis looked pretty bumbed out there? I think he was upset with his performance at the plate
  9. I really really really really hate Nate McClouth WE NEED MORE RUNS
  10. Pleasantly surprised to see we are ahead but we need more runs must have more runs
  11. Jurrjens is really good and the last Randy Wells start vs. Atlanta made me want to take a life Hopefully the result is different today. Go Cubs! Go Ramirez!
  12. Yeah, could be just a fluke, but they should give the Fontenot/Baker platoon a shot. Let Fontenot only face RH pitchers and get back to his natural defensive spot and see if that keeps things going. Its interesting that his tailspin for the season began when he was forced to man 3b pretty much everyday. He had been jacking XBH's when he was playing second, but I can't remember the last time he hit a homer, it must have been May.
  13. Its unfortunate to be in the A's shoes because they really should have the pieces to be competitive in the rather bleh AL West, but tons of players aren't hitting and some of the pitchers have been disappointing or just outright injured. (Devine and Duscherer haven't played) They'll probably deal Holliday. They probably dealt for him in the first place to set up this win-win situation. If they are competitive they are adding a skilled and quality hitter to their lineup. If not, they can deal him at the deadline for a decent value. Problem is he hasn't really been hitting that well this year and that might hurt his value.
  14. dew, its a noble cause you're taking but there really is no better option than simply cutting Aaron Miles and eating his, lets be honest, rather paltry contract. He's terrible, he angers me when he's on the field, his very presence tempts Lou to use him, its all in all awful. I don't care if this stops us from signing some amazing super star next year, I want him gone. Sunk cost. His money is already guaranteed, we don't need to complicate the issue by actually having him hurt our team.
  15. it'll be a sad day when Wakefield retires hopefully someone (R.A. Dickey? ) can take up his mantle because I really don't want to see the knuckleball disappear from the majors forever edit: Crap I didn't realize he was as old as he was. This blows.
  16. I saw this on the Sportscenter ticker when I was at the gym a few nights ago, it scared me because all I saw was "...Pace suspended on suspicion of PED's" I was certain they were talking about Orlando Pace
  17. well, in theory this was a pretty good pitching match up for us wow this game is a complete disaster screw the cubs, screw the brewers, lets take tomorow
  18. wow the cubs have managed to squeeze a month of suck into 2 innings horrible disaster outing by Harden followed by 2 bases loaded situations and no runs
  19. Yet we get articles just slamming Z. Z makes $16 million to pitch like an ace and doesn't do it consistently. who cares honestly do you care that much about how consistent he is and how much money he makes enough to want him off the team
  20. I rarely can stomach watching an entire game the full way. Often I'll turn it off for periods of time. I don't know if I'm becoming a worse Cubs fan or not, but I can't really watch the games. Maybe its something to do with how poorly we've dropped off from last year. Now those were fun games. Aside from the on off Kerry Wood meltdown. So what I'm saying is: You haven't missed much. These aren't pretty games.
  21. Yeah...uh...not so fast on that one. I'd definitely take a career minor leaguer over Miles.
  22. We've done it before, like last year, in Milwaukee. I was at Zambrano v. Sheets and it was amazing.
  23. Here comes the inevitable Pujols walk off
  24. Judging solely on this game alone the Giants look like the worst team in the majors And they are like 8 games above us wootz mostly I mean their offense because its god damn infuriatingly bad it might be worse than ours
