  1. The Free Darko guy is usually a very good writer, this one is a major misfire. It never really makes any cogent points and he basically just dislikes Derricks game as a preference, and theres nothing really rational about it. Which is fine, I hate some players irrationally too, but I don't write articles about it. The worst part about it is there are very clear objective facts that point towards Derrick becoming a more complete player, his defense, his jumpshooting, etc. And I have to say, completely subjectively, I find Derrick Rose's game beautiful. It may be brutish in a way, he isn't a Kobe who pokes and prods and finds his way to an open shot, he does force his way past and through people, but the way he controls his body is so graceful and awe inspiring. Angling his body to avoid defenders, holding on to the ball until the very last second, how is that not aesthetically pleasing?
  2. I don't want to start a whole off topic discussion here, but it amazes me how much she gets away with, basically talking about giving guys erections etc
  3. Is there a worse period of non-sports than the NBA All-star break? Its already at a bad time (February: football over, baseball still far off, college basketball still not yet interesting) so the only thing thats really 'going on' is hockey. And c'mon. Its hockey.
  4. Zambrano so consistently outpitches his projections that I think its worth looking more closely at him and wondering what the heck is up with him. I don't know enough about pitchfx and all that stuff to understand why this is.
  5. I couldn't get access for almost a week, I figured you guys lost the rights to the domain or something! I was gonna be upset because I would have no where to rant about how bad the Cubs were gonna be
  6. Could you imagine being some 18-year-old kid who's getting ready to move into the dorm and then being told you couldn't move in, and that your scholarship wasn't being offered to you anymore? Yeah, that's some [expletive] and something has to be done about it. Sounds like Big Slick has a bigger problem with the upper classmen having their schollies taken away, which I have absolutely no issues with. They are year-to-year grants in aid that are based on athletic ability, and if you're not good enough to maintain one, I don't see why any coach should be forced to keep offering them to you. However, I do think that if a coach signs more freshmen than he can feasibly get into school, he should face some sort of penalty for it. Not exactly sure what would be fair, but I agree that coaches who sign freshmen and then make them greyshirt or something else are reprehensible. I'd love to see the NCAA step in and set firm rules on this and punish offending institutions (by taking away one scholarship per oversigning?) 'TheVolCub08', seriously ? With a name like that? You're making it too easy for me. Yes scholarships are technically year-to-year grants but they have been used as de facto 4 year scholarships for athletes since the beginning of time. The only reason they aren't 4 year deals are for letting someone go when they do something reprehensible. Cutting them off a kid's lifeblood when he's a year away from his degree so you can try some new talent that might not make the team don't seem all that right. I can't believe your so cynical as to forget that the reason why these kids go to school (ostensibly) is to earn degrees. Enough of them don't get them anyway, we need to encourage even fewer? http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5926193
  7. Oversigning is probably the mot reprehensible thing that goes on in NCAA because they pull the rug right under kids trying to finish their degrees and basically not allow them to graduate because they want to try a freshman out. I'd rather they outright pay player than pull [expletive] like this. [expletive] horrible.
  8. Uh...if they really want him so bad to be their Offensive Coordinator then have him. Jesus. Its not like he's a brilliant offensive mind there. I like what he did with an offensive line that may be the least talented in 30 years, but come on man. Don't put him in any position of power.
  9. my feeling is that the media can really pick and choose who the public loves and hates really. i found my self getting caught up in the whole lebron thing and then i stopped myself and wondered, really, is he all that bad for the whole 'decision' crap? A bad move by any stretch of the imagination yes, but he turned from one of the more sympathetic athletes in the world to one of the most detested pretty quickly, and almost mysteriously. nothing illustrates it more than Jay Cutler, who really isn't a bad guy, played hard while injured, and still got a bad rap for it. oh he's short to reporters i guess, and is kinda aloof (but not nearly as aloof as the media would like to make him out to be) or something. but its almost 100% fabricated and it becomes the narrative because if you don't scratch below the surface its hard to find the true story.
  10. It kind of comes down to people like the way Jordan carried himself on the court compared with LeBron I think. People love Jordan because the way he looked and the clutch shots he hit. He was a dick on the court too but people viewed it as badass. LeBron has a different demeanor and carries himself in a different way than MJ. You're right, Jordan is a bigger a-hole most likely (I don't know these people so it's hard to say) but because of the way they appear to carry themselves on the court. MJ will always be more likable. Also, MJ was first and MJ probably had better PR like you said. Plus I'd like to know where this "by all rights" stuff is coming from. How many times did Lebron send his Cav teammates to tears in practice? but lebron is [expletive] up for different reasons. jordan was the maestro who wouldn't accept anything less from his teammates than the effort he gave. jordan's constant berating of his teammates was for the good of the team. lebron doesn't have that. uh thats sugar coating it. Its not a controversial opinion that Michael Jordan is a jackass. he's never been anything better than rude or downright insulting to his fans, he abused his teammates and some of his former coaches, and he abused his own players when he was an general manager/owner. this is a good watch this reminds me, i've been meaning to pick up The Jordan Rules and read it for some time, anyone else read it?

  12. Its funny because by all rights MJ is a bigger POS than Lebron James is/was, but MJ just had better PR
  13. hang around logan square for about 22 seconds
  14. He had some amazing San Diego teams that lost on some fluky stuff in the playoffs (I remember a game where they picked off a Brady pass on 4th down and subsequently fumbled it to give the Pats a 1st down to allow them to win, holy crap thats some bad luck)
  15. Schottenheimer
  16. Meh. I don't like it. Lee isn't a difference maker and Asik is a good security blanket. We have a geriatric and an oft-injured spaz at Center. Plus I like Omer. Its a lot easier to swallow if both Boozer and Noah were'nt constant injury risks I'm afraid the 2 guard is something we can't adequately attend to until next off-season, trading any big men leaves us far too thin right now.
  17. Wait Philly is a playoff caliber team? Seriously? The bottom half of the east, whoa boy
  18. Aren't we basically locked in to the 3 or better now? I don't see how the Knicks (LOL) Orlando or Hawks finish better than us We're basically free rolling for the top 2 spots
  19. I swear to god, and I'm not saying this to cover up a typo, but my keyboard has been falling apart lately. You can tell because half the time I don't use caps at all (the shift key on the left side has died completely so if I want to capitalize something I have to shift from right side, which is awkward)
  20. This is a crap game thats motivating me to go to the gym so its at least doing something good
  21. It doesn't help when Rose drives the lane and 3 Jazz players make contact across his arms and no foul is called. Yeah I made a post about that. Anyway Thibs, stop putting out this Brewer/Watson/Korver/Gibson/Asik lineup if you want a 'spark' because it has zero offensive capability i just reverse jinxed it btw
  22. Well done Bulls, you've managed to flub an 8 point lead into a 2 point deficit by scoring 0 points for the last however many minutes. Everyones been complaining about the defense but honestly I wish Thibs would be more irate over the wasted possessions too. Its one thing to be lazy on the defensive end but they are just damn stupid offensively on this trip so far.
  23. Well if they aren't going to call a foul on that play I have no interest in watching this game
  24. Fielder is also significantly worse and fat. I know he lost a ton of weight in the off-season but its still something to worry about. BTW, it would be hilarious if the Cards were forced to trade him a la John Santana because they know they can't re-sign him
  25. seemed like every play in the last 5 minutes portland just dropped it off to aldridge in the post and we couldn't do anything about it need noah back
