  1. I like how you're pounding this "THEY'RE NOT EVEN TRYING!!!" idea you have so damn hard. I know this isn't true it, but damnit, I wish there was a better explanation for our collapse than 'playoff beisbol.' Was spitballing with some folks on twitter about how the "Moneyball doesn't work in the playoffs" might actually have some truth and not just rhetoric behind it. I mean its possible, I'm not sure its entirely true, that high-contact guys and power pitching gives you a slight edge over three-true-outcome guys that have contact problems like so much of our lineup has. It would explain why the Royals are enjoying playoff success with a team that doesn't have much power but *does* have the ability to put the ball in play. It could also be, merely statistical noise in a tiny sample size that can't be helped.
  2. Cubs are at a shockingly high (to me) 7.9% chance to win this series according to Fangraphs http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx
  3. I get the feeling some of you would have been happier if this team lost in the play in game They beat the Pirates, donged the Cardinals to death and gave us the most exciting season in 13 years. And this train ain't stopping for a long time.
  4. lol I just remember Hammel is starting tomorrow - there's a 100.0% chance he gives up first inning runs
  5. we need to deploy the secret weapon of : butters
  6. We actually have only had 5 hits in every game in this series so far lol What the actual [expletive]
  7. We have 5 hits. Five hits. You can't expect to win with this.
  8. Well there was the Pirates game...and the Cardinals series...
  9. Hello darkness my old friend
  10. I was really hoping to have at least competitive series that was exciting But this has been dull and just a slow march to death
  11. I don't believe in "power pitching beats power hitting" as like some repeated fact, but our particular hitters are vulnerable to a type of pitcher, and, most of our hitters entered a slump right as the playoffs started
  12. If this team can't score more than 2 runs in a game, then they aren't gonna be able to move on. It's just that simple. You can point at defensive miscues and some pitching hiccups, and they're real, but at the end of the day you can't win with this run production.
  13. Bryant has been spotty on defense this whole postseason, it's been real unfortunate
  14. bad umpiring and bad luck. mets offense has been middling. Mets hitting has been mediocre but their pitching has been extremely good, umpiring aside, and they're the exact kind of pitchers we are vulnerable to
  15. Hey, how about you shits don't go down in order every inning aside from some [expletive] dongs here and there Christ almighty
  16. This is the most dong-errific lineup so bring on the dongs
  17. I hope they win because theres nothing more depressing than a 3-0 series and you're just waiting for the losing team to just give in and lose So at the very least, give me some entertainment
  18. What the Cubs need right now is more thinly veiled homoerotic memes I think
  19. Thank god the Jays won this and show some life, a Mets - Royals world series would be such a snorefest to me
  20. Hendricks looking like just a regular depressed dude that works in IT is my favorite thing about him Go Sad Hendricks
  21. The scary thing about this game was that aside from that first inning (and still not retaining his best control) Arrieta was good. You just can't win on 1 run unless you have God Mode Arrieta.
  22. Hello Positivity Thread. I feel positive the Cubs still have a chance in this thing. Stuff happens! Baseball is weird, and a fickle, capricious beast. :beg: :flythew:
  23. Travis Wood may be our 2nd best starting option right now
  24. and i'm going to the gym i figure it's not like i'll be distraught if i miss a comeback win I caused a scene at the gym on Murphy's home run and a second scene when Coghlan's Homer-That-Wasn't and immediately had to leave
  25. Have we had anyone on base with less than 2 outs this entire game?
