    The most obvious and easy rule would have been to institute a pitch clock. Stop legislating around it and just do it. Pitch clock, universal DH, call it a century. Just do it.

    2004 was way worse. They (had to) blow up the teams from 2003-2004 and you knew the 2005 team had no chance of being competitive. It was a surrender year after two years of relevance. Us deciding not to be heads and shoulders above the rest of the NL but still very likely a playoff caliber team does not match up to that.

    there is no universe, not any parallel dimension, where the White Sox are a more likely destination than the Cubs I don't care what the financial situation is. thats not happening. i look forward to this post being quoted and me being flogged for eternity.

    I'm gonna need the Cubs to do something exciting because there are no sports I care about until opening day at this point and the Bears horrible loss can't be all I chew on. So get on it.

    It can both be true that Nagy was conservative in playcaling in the first half and that Trubisky was pretty mediocre in the first half. In fact, that’s what I think occurred. I guess the thing is with a game this close you can point to any one lackluster factor in the game as responsible, because if any of those factors (late defense, short punt, more points earlier on, THE KICKER) they win. Such is life.

    If he is on this team next year I'm not watching a game (I will probably not follow through on this promise but ho-boy i'm so furious he was allowed to ruin our season)

    I wouldn’t say the offense did everything it should have. It basically didn’t move the ball until the 4th quarter - and Mitch was definitely up and down and made some great down field passes late. If he was on target early, they have the game in hand without resorting to a kick late. It is what it is.

    Sports are dumb. Well, it was a fun year. I look forward to 9 months of people arguing over whether Trubisky is any good because this year and this game certainly didn’t settle the argument. Fun. When’s baseball season?
