  1. I will say all these supposed analytics about the Bears Oline being “good” or even “serviceable” are way off and a complete joke. An eye test shows you who horrific the Oline is.
  2. Oh good we’re doing this now This is his 5th start.
  3. These teams are basically playing completely different eras of football. The passes Brady is completing don’t even look barely open, and yet they’re effortlessly completed.
  4. Well this is nearly worst case scenario so far
  5. my god. that was one of the ugliest football games of all time. i loved it
  6. Running didn’t work well either. The pass Illinois threw in the 6th OT looked like the QB thought there was a second end zone behind the end zone. That thing was at least 5 feet over the WRs head. EDIT: Worked in the 8th OT. Yeah the thing is Illinois has ~350 rushing yards today and 30 passing yards. and they made 4 straight passing attempts in consecutive OTs Illinois now with another chance to win this
  7. this is nuts. illinois insists on passing when they cannot pass, but penn state can't do jack horsefeathers just run the ball
  8. I've only started watching during OT but man. This Illinois QB is brutal.
  9. Hah this is the first I've thought about Illinois football in 7 or 8 years, would be cool to see them pull off an upset
  10. I probably don't feel as passionately about replacing Nagy as most Bears fans - I see him as a flawed but relatively effective coach, and if he genuinely keeps the playcalling with Lazor I'm ok with him sticking around. (Assuming the team doesn't experience an utter collapse and embarrassment through the end of the season, which is possible!) I also hate the idea of switching coaches on Fields this early on in his development. I'm 100% on board with replacing Pace though, but unfortunately I think he's a package deal with Nagy, can't throw him out without the other.
  11. How the hell do you end up with an offensive line so ramshackle and also have no picks and also have no cap space Bears.
  12. Trying to think of reasonable goals for this game. On the one hand I don't want to sell them short, of course its a pro game and anyone can win, but looking at the micro level: - 4 consistent good quarters from Justin Fields. The Buc's actually have a pretty bad passing defense and so far Fields has had flashes of excellence alongside drives that go nowhere. If he could put together 4 total quarters where he's effective and dangerous that's a great sign. - Keeping it close. Keep it competitive. Would like to see the Defense stay stout the whole game. Tall order, and I wont be overly disappointed if they start falling apart near the end if the offense sputters too much - No more idiotic coaching mistakes. No more timeouts called right before throwing a challenge flag (on a play that honestly wasn't super valuable to challenge in the first place). More concern for the clock, better handling of time outs. Some sort of effective half time adjustments, rather than having terrible 3rd quarters. Maybe this is asking too much.
  13. I hate to say it but this series is proving to me I'll take a proven cheating team over the Boston Red Sox I guess my hope right now is for an Astros-Braves WS
  14. There's a large body of evidence to suggest a big offensive leap coinciding with an improving Fields is never going to happen with Nagy. Today' NFL is all about offense, seems 3/4 of league with various weaknesses and strengths can still move the ball and score points at will, it starts at the top. Honestly, is it Nagy's full part? The Bears couldn't get a consistently good offense with Lovie Smith. They couldn't get a consistently good offense with Marc Trestman. They couldn't get a consistently good offense with John Fox (lol). They haven't been able to get a consistently good offense with Nagy. Talent acquisition has to be a huge part of the problem here.
  15. Please don't post those numbers. Those numbers don't make me feel good.
  16. I still can't believe we drafted Mitch Trubisky 2nd overall. Good god.
  17. This is probably the most unfortunate scheduling situation ever. You just hope you get out of this game with Fields intact mentally and physically
  18. I don't think Nagy's fate is sealed, nor do I think it should be. The most important thing is seeing improvement from Fields and feeling secure he's on the right path by the end of the season. Everything else is icing on the cake. If Fields looks pretty damn competent and confident by the end of the season I think Nagy keeps his job (and justifiably so!)
  19. For perspective, teams are 93-364 since the start of the 2019 season when scoring fewer than 20 points. A 0.204 win percentage. The Bears have scored less than 20 points on 22 different times (in 38 games!) and are actually 8-14 in those games for a 0.364 win percentage. Expected W/L in these games would be 4-18. Since the same point, teams are 465-180 (0.721) when they allow 24 or fewer points. The Bears are just 16-12 (.571) when this happens. And 28 of 38 games have had points allowed within this threshold! Expected W/L in these games would be 20-8. So, the Bears have what amounts to an 11-12 win defense (70% of the time), while fielding a 3-4 win offense (60% of the time) over the last 2 1/3 seasons. The results? A perfect split of the difference at 19-19. Great post. The bottom line has always been simple and still the Bears just can’t get their arms around it: The offense isn’t good enough. Except for 2018 - they need to score more points. That’s it. It’s not complicated. It’s the NFL in 2021, you can’t expect to be a winning football team if you aren’t putting up 20+ consistently (and occasionally 30 or 40). There will never be an 85 Bears D or a Ravens 2001 D or even a 2006 Bears D type super bowl again. Gotta roll with the times.
  20. I don’t feel anything for the Braves generally but I can get on board them ousting the Dodgers out of the playoffs I’ve really come to hate the Dodgers over the past few years and I hope they crawl into a hole and fail for a long time like they did when I first started coming around to watching baseball seriously
  21. It’s weird, contrary to 99% of rookie quarterbacks who have good legs, my biggest issue is that he actually needs to just take off more often. He’s really trying to get a pass in, and there are times where it costs him. Either way he needs to make the decision sooner. There are times when he decides to run, but it’s far too late and they got him already. Still, I thought today was good on the whole for Fields. He came out strong, struggled in the middle, and could have ended the game looking really bad, but he bounced back and had that nice touchdown drive. You wish he could have closed the game out, but it was encouraging to see him bounce back like that. It’s too bad the next few games are so brutal.
  22. I’m not mad at the defense. If you told me before the game they could keep the Packers to 24 I’d be happy with that. Offense needs to put up at least 24 in the NFL in 2021. That’s just what the modern game is.
  23. Don’t feel bad if the Packers salt the game away here. This is what they do, and they have one of the best QBs of all time. It would be delicious to see Fields get a chance to win the game though.
  24. FIELDS. MOONEY. Yes. You get a stop quickly here and a game. Very hard to expect but would be nice.
