  1. It was only his 4th save opportunity during that time though. Maybe he just chokes in save situations? I'm just spitballing here.
  2. I think the defense may well be better just from being on the field less.
  3. I don't want to know in what form he took that testosterone. I actually had to look up and make sure that guy's given name wasn't Pud.
  4. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm What a curious choice of player to single out, eh?
  5. Apparently when releasing some emails, a U of I employee, who was unfamiliar with Santo, assumed the following conversation was about a student that was denied admission, and thus blacked out Santo's name. That's pretty funny stuff. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-talk_santojun23,0,4494844.story
  6. I've stayed right next to that hotel many times. Ahh...the local paper didn't name the hotel...it just said north Normal. Found it in the Trib. There's a few hotels right around that area.
  7. Woo! Go Normal! A string of shootings in Bloomington over the weekend, and now this. We're gettin on that map!
  8. That would be a terrible idea. Why's that? He will turn 35 before cactus league opens play and if the Cubs finish in the top half of the league they'll lose a draft pick (unless I'm mistaken and those compensation rules have changed). There was never anything wrong with trading DeRosa. The problem was getting minor league relievers for him and replacing him with Miles. If the motivation was to sell high on a guy with a unique late career boost in performance, great, although since I suspect the motivation was a lot more about getting more LH, it's annoying. Didn't realize he was that old. I'm terrible with all the FA rules...thanks.
  9. Not really Bethpage's fault that it rained that much though. I mean, couldn't the same thing have happened at Winged Foot?
  10. It's already taken forever to finish. What's a few more hours? I'd be able to see the end if they did that...heh.
  11. That would be a terrible idea. Why's that?
  12. But before that he used to be a tubby. Oh yeah? Didn't realize that. I just remembered him like this before I saw him yesterday... http://www.sportspool.com/golf/player_profiles/David_Duval.jpg
  13. Anyone else completely floored by Duval being a tubby? I mean I'm in no great shape, but I'm not getting paid to play golf either.... Dude used to be a rail.
  14. Wife's brother or sister's husband? Either way, punch him. If you include draft picks I think Walter is still the bigger acquisition at this point. But Cutler is probably the biggest trade/signing. Wife's bro. And yeah, he's pretty much the kind of sports fan I hate...and a Cardinal fan to boot. Great guy, horrible to discuss sports with.
  15. Yep. TV coverage started at 9am EST. What channel? NBC is showing the Today show still. ESPN. Switches to NBC at 11:30.
  16. No. Cutler is the biggest acquisition in recent memory and easily the most important pickup in the offseason. cutler is easily the biggest acquisition in bears history. My brother in law was over yesterday and said he wasn't all that excited about the Bears this year. I said "What? We got freaking Cutler!" He said "Who's Cutler?"
  17. Yep. TV coverage started at 9am EST. Here's blog coverage if you're at work: http://blogs.golf.com/presstent/2009/06/-live-2009-us-open-coverage-extended-monday-edition.html This guy apparently didn't know that Bennigans went out of business.
  18. Just wait and sign Derosa in the offseason at this point.
  19. Huh...he was actually pretty good yesterday.
  20. I'm glad he's hot right now, and I hope it keeps up. I still have little confidence that it's a long term change though. The guy has been bad for too long now to just suddenly figure it all out again. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, and I'm certainly enjoying it right now.
  21. I get off work at 3:30. I get in the car, and realize I hadn't checked the ballgame all afternoon. My radio is already on The Score, and they're doing an update right then, so I decide I'll listen to that for the score before I flip to WGN. David Schuster comes on to tell me that it's the 3rd inning and the Cubs are down 6-0. He then proceeds to say, and I'm paraphrasing here..."For all practical purposes, this game is over."
  22. Something had to be lost in the translation there. Either Turner said, "Jay" instead of "Jerry" or the writer is blending two very different sentences into one. My thought exactly. I must have re-read that sentence 4 times.
  23. At least for Ozzie he has the excuse that english is not his native language.
  24. The economy tanked before he "won" the deal. Huh...seemed like longer ago than that.
  25. I wonder...when the whole economy tanked, did Ricketts decide to try to stall his way out of this deal?
