  1. Except....that was a book cover...not a video. :) Looking at the Amazon page there's a book and a vhs of the same title/same picture of Dusty But the cover above has a quote from Hank Aaron referring to "this book". I stand by my claim. :)
  2. Ha! I got hung up on that part of his post too.
  3. A QB winning a Super Bowl doesn't necessarily mean anything about his talent level. Agreed...Rex made it to a Super Bowl, and I think we can agree he wasn't a franchise QB. But lets be honest, usually these kinds of lists do factor in those kinds of achievements. It's just unclear exactly what he's using as measurement other than complete subjectivity...that's all I meant by that comment. The fact that his best QB's have only ever been in one system is more of a problem for this list I think. The problem is always going to come that the best QB's are always going to only play on one team (I would argue that the system is going to change over the years for these QB's as the people around them change, even if they're still wearing the same uniform). Why would you get rid of a top QB? It simply becomes a measure of how well-rounded the QB is. And while I understand the need to put some subjectivity in it (different teams ask different things of QB's which skew stats) there was too much subjectivity in this article. But it's a really hard task to try to compare quarterbacks because of the vast differences in talent and the fact that most QB's who are any good at all stay with their original team for most of their career. I actually also like his rankings for the most part. There's a thin line between the QB's ranked 4th through about 12th, and so a writer has a hard time going wrong putting those quarterbacks in just about any order. I'm not saying that he's wrong for picking QB's that were only one one team. I'm saying his definition of franchise QB is lame because there's no possible way for him measure the capability of Tom Brady outside of Belichek's system, or Phillip Rivers without Ladanian Tomlinson. I understand that some subjectivity is going to be involved in ranking QB's without a straight stat comparison. But he's adding additional subjectivity by projecting them into a scenario that we can't possibly draw any realistic conclusions.

  5. What a strange list. We clearly aren't going by actual accomplishment, or Eli Manning, Kurt Warner and Ben Rothlisberger, QB's that has actually won a Super Bowl, would be in the top 5. Like jersey said, the definition they use is awful. I love how the definition requires that they would actually be able to have success in any system, and yet 4 of the top 5 have only ever been on one team in their entire career.
  6. I turn off most sports stations when they start taking calls. There's plenty of stupid sports opinions out there from the general public. I don't need the audio.
  7. Without the Cubs, I wonder how long WGN would last? I mean, I know everybody needs their fill of "Corner Gas" or "Fresh Prince" or whatever reruns they are showing these days...But outside of Chicago sports, they don't really bring anything unique to the table. I wouldn't be terribly upset though. Put em all on CSN and I'm ok.

  10. I don't think you're giving the "we got a real QB" factor enough weight. I'm OK with being wrong sometimes. I'm OK with you being wrong sometimes too....hey-o! :)

  12. I disagree. I think if Cutler is putting a ton of points on the board, but the Bears still lose maybe cuz the defense got old, or Forte suddenly develops butter fingers, or whatever...I think Chicago fans will be ok with Cutler. I mean...how long did we deal with guys like Rex, Mcnown, Krenzel, Matthews, Mirer...the litany of bad/below average QB's is well documented. Even if we lose, I think a lot of Bears fans will be happy to lose in a more entertaining fashion. That's not to say we shouldn't expect/demand winning football. Just that I don't think it will necessarily all be in Cutlers lap at the first sign of trouble.
  13. berrian had maybe one of the most clutch catches in bears history in that game. The one diving out of bounds in the endzone to tie the game...yeah. I miss Berrian. I'm still upset that we let him go.
  14. I think Z believes this right now. In five years though? We'll see.
  15. I didn't realize that game was on NFL network until just before the 2 min warning. Cutler never had a chance to save that game...the defense couldn't get him the ball. That defense is the reason for Cutler's W/L record.
  16. Does anyone have a link to the fake Larussa's Twitter? I want to read some more of those posts, they look hilarious! It has been removed/deactivated. Yeah that's not surprising.

  18. because places of employment do it all the time? My place of employment has no specific murder guidelines. uh huh, as i would expect it wouldn't Betcha I'd still get fired for it. (Though admittedly, it'd probably be the least of my concerns.)

  20. I want to see how he does with some contact before I get too excited. It's too easy for him to get to full speed in these non-contact OTA's.
  21. I'd be shocked if it was anything more than Zach's opinion.
  22. It sounds like the players are just as excited as we are. From David Haugh's article this morning...(where you could really feel his excitement as you read it.)
  23. He might just be so used to having Peyton Manning that it really skews his QB perspective at this point. Anything less than Manning is unacceptable. That's just a shot in the dark though.
