  1. Or it's just a ridiculous sum of money to those making middle-class wages. I certainly don't begrudge certain classes of people for what they make as it is what the market will bear. However, I just can't empathize with someone making $10 million dollars a year wanting to make $20 million. I want my bills to get paid on time. But you empathize with the billionaire owner who wants to hold on to even more money for himself Where are you getting that? I don't empathize the sums of money on either side. It's the rich fighting the richer. Wow, listen to yourself. The money has to go somewhere. Does it stay in the pocket of the billionaire owner for no reason, or does it go to the guy who makes the product on the field what it is (a.k.a. makes the owner his money)? Who cares?
  2. He retired. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/cardinal-beat/article_f3a08566-3b76-11e0-9989-0017a4a78c22.html
  3. Undoubtedly, and if that's what he wants to go after, he'll get his money. I still say when it's all said and done, he'll take a little less (but still get a ton of freaking money) to stay in STL. Yeah, but a little less from what he's asking still seems to be way out of their price range. Albert seems to indicate in his most recent quotes that what the media is reporting as his "asking price" isn't accurate. Could well just be him trying to throw the media off...but I guess we'll see. Random thought: This could end up being possibly the longest lasting baseball related thread this forum has ever had.

  5. So because he signed a team-friendly contract 6 years ago while he was still in arbitration he isn't about the money and will take less to stay in St. Louis??????? Some people's defense mechanism against being disappointed by something they really really want to happen not happening is downplaying the chances of that thing happening. Did that even make sense? Not that I'm saying I think we'll sign Pujols...or that it's even really likely... but I'd have to agree that it's a stretch to paint the picture that optimistically for the Cardinals. We're all guessing here, and I think it's reasonable to think that given Albert's pro-STL quotes, his past behavior when it comes to contract negotiations, and the fact that, while not one of the highest paid guys in the league, the guy has already made some pretty nice cash over the years, that he may not be looking to completely break the bank here. It's also reasonable to think that he's gonna walk. Maybe it's more about the money than he's previously let on. I certainly understand that thought, and don't bregrudge anyone think that's going to happen. But I think he stays. I don't think that's an unreasonable opinion.
  6. Wow. That's surprising. Try clearing your cache. If that doesn't work, try this: Close your browser. go to start->run->type "cmd" In the command window, type "ipconfig /flushdns" Close the command window, open your browser and try again. It's a long shot, but might work for ya.
  7. Im womdering what we do with Thomas and Asiks minutes when Jo is back Noah's going to probably need to ramp up his minutes coming back. Rest Thomas, let Asik share time with Noah as he gets in game shape.
  8. Not to be negative nancy here, but I really think he'll end up re-signing with the Cards. This guy has never been about the money, unfortunately. He's taken less in the past to stay with the Cards, and I bet when it comes right down to it, he'll do it again. He'll try to get what he can out of em, but I don't think he's leaving.
  9. Please see the topic directly below this one.
  10. It was just a domain registration issue I believe. Tim can confirm, but from what I could tell, the registration on northsidebaseball.com expired on the 14th, and so when dns servers started refreshing the next day, the parked message came up. I looks like Tim got on it when he noticed, and it took a day for the dns servers to propagate and for everyone to be able to get back online.
  11. Aaron Harang is too pitchy. Get it?
  12. I could see them trading him if it looks like we have better candidates, Id think he'd be appealing to someone even with his contract. Well there's a guy I haven't seen in a while.
  13. Of those 4 teams, is Charlotte the only one that's beaten the Bulls twice?
  14. I know less than nothing about soccer, but Teal Bunbury is an awesome name. Before I just looked him up, I would've sworn that was a British name.
  15. Yeah, I'm sure he doesn't want to hang around as a position coach forever. So it makes sense he'd be disappointed. Bears probably just want one more year from him. It's also pretty late to be "coach shopping". Good coaches will already have a job by now. Letting Tice leave would have transferred the Titans "open coaching spot" woes to the Bears to try to fill somehow.
  16. lol...yeah, cuz otherwise he might have a shitty season with only a .980 OPS
  17. booooooooooooooo Chargers franchise Vincent Jackson.
  18. this made me smile Definitely a choice of song that I approve. What did Lou play in his office, Frank Sinatra? He seems like a Sinatra guy.
  19. I can understand complaining about the Holliday deal though, if you think that deal will prevent the team from re-signing Pujols.
  20. Correct, although I think any deal will contain deferred money. It's like TT said at GRB, they are in a lose-lose regardless. Lose him next year and they win 80 games. Sign him and they're in a budget crunch. How do they defer money though? I mean, if they sign a 10yr $300 million deal, then deferred money means they're either paying huge sums of money in the final years (and likely worst, performance wise) of the contract. If they defer the money till after the contract is complete, well do you want to be paying for Pujols 11, 12, or 13 years from now?
  21. I hate it, but it's the price of poker. At least it isn't for a guy who is just an All Star and not the clear-cut best hitter in the league, and it's for a guy who has certain skills that should age better than a game based almost entirely on athleticism. Even in his initial decline, Albert should be a very good hitter. Plus any WS that he helps you win really helps cushion that cost.
