  1. yeah as much as i hate the 9th inning idea i am pretty much with tree here (i think, i thought about this for about 20 seconds). i'd just say do this starting the 12th inning, though. or don't do anything. i'd be cool with either.
  2. Who are these stick-in-the-mud people voting for the bad options. The hell is wrong with y’all?
  3. hmm. a lot of times i can get behind the sentiment of minor pet peeves but the thought of them putting a helmet on to take those goofy pics would only make them look even more goofy. i guess i could understand if they took them "action-style" on the field but just wearing a helmet for no reason in front of a photo backstop would look really dorky imo.
  4. who hits the first (meaningless) dong of 2018? i'll guess it's that dude we brought in to help woo, yu, as a long shot. though tbh it kind of seems like yu doesn't really give a horsefeathers about him but of course i don't have a lot of content to read into that. just feels like it's nowhere near the situation with lester and grandpa.
  5. I guess it'll be somewhat interesting to see the battle for who claims the last bullpen spot? I mean that's the only real spot up in the air, right? that's really grasping at straws (what does that even mean, btw) but it's cool on some level when some sort of baseball is happening. but yes, it's a bit of a [expletive] tease quite quickly
  6. That’s far too many words analyzing the Brewers imo. This will suffice for me re: Brewers.
  7. How on earth does this get 17 likes. People are just tossing them out like they have no meaning anymore... i'm probably the biggest "like whore" and even i didn't give it a heart fwiw
  8. Please be a Cub for life, Javy.
  9. hopefully they take into account that dude had his career postponed due to cancer, too. that's kind of, um, impressive to come back and be a monster in MLB
  10. Pitchers like to be on a set routine, though I think they'd be more apt to skip a guy every other time through and throw Monty in favorable matchups, allowing most guys to stay on schedule most of the year. yeah that sounds about right and i could get on board with that for sure. not that anyone was being snarky or anything but that was the rationale behind "would it make sense?" in the OP - just thinking out loud. this method would give montgomery some starts which should make him happy while also having him (on some nights) as an asset in the pen. also to help minimize the innings for the starters. win-win-win
  11. I really hope they do something along these lines to give Darvish and Lester as much extra time off between starts as they can. yeah, agreed. would it make sense to do a 6-man rotation every other time around the rotation?
  12. the obligatory jason heyward is working really hard to improve article: https://www.mlb.com/news/cubs-jason-heyward-working-on-swing-for-2018/c-266199328
  13. Figured since the first pics were out we could go ahead and start this bad boy up. Sheridan has the first round of his pics over at boys of spring: http://boysofspring.com/chilis-here-but-its-not-chilly/ Happ already in mid-season facial expression form http://boysofspring.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ST18-happ-02-8x10-bif.jpg
  14. Cubs twitter has a strong online presence
  15. olympics are pretty good for putting on when i want background noise/tv and need to be productive
  16. Yup. I think some posters actually enjoy making new posts here just to disappoint people looking for legit Yu Darvish news. At this rate, this thread goes strong all the way up to spring training and maybe beyond... [please also note this post added no actual value either] ETA: while i hope for new news about yu (poet and didn't know it!) i am never really disappointed when mojo posts something weird, derwood does his derwood thing, etc. i don't know, maybe i just love y'all and stuff. it's a boring ass time of year anyway - slow offseason or not - so i'll take anything i can get
  17. [tweet] [/tweet]he should just go be a WWE star
  18. missed opportunity imo based solely on how many "bae" references he could have had. MLB twitter accounts would have feasted on it. *bae hits homer clip* MLB twitter acct: bae is looking hot tonight
  19. I have no clue (nor do I think anyone does) but hypothetically IF the Cubs and Twins are only two willing/able to go big figures for a starter between Darvish/Cobb/Arrieta and there is one of those that isn't willing to back down then i can totally see jake holding out into the season when teams may get desperate (either with their record or with injuries). quite possibly into the mid-season, even. who was the last to hold out into mid-season/ASB? clemens? or am i misremembering someone else (see what i did there)? I just see jake as someone stubborn enough to do that imo. and, honestly, it may not be the worst idea if the market isn't there at all right now. he's a crazy fitness guy so he would presumably still be in great shape and he would be resting his arm for a run after the ASB. though, i suppose it's much less likely a multi-year would be offered mid-season. still, if he was really well rested and went all out in that second half he could test the waters next year if he were god-mode jake for a half season. i don't know, i'm just rambling and thinking out loud at this point.
  20. random addition/memory. I remember being heartbroken when I realized dawson was no longer a cub via a picture of him in a marlins uniform on the cover of a beckett magazine. think it was him and one or two other dudes (maybe jeff conine?) honestly cannot remember & GIS isn't helping me. maybe it wasn't a cover? did they do "articles" at all or just card values? i remember my mom and dad both knew but neither had the heart to tell me. to this day i am somewhere between "i respect that" and "that's [expletive]" on not telling me.
  21. I went with the Sheffield waggle a lot. Before that I remember positioning my legs like Dawson used to.umm I did both of those things playing wiffle ball as a kid??? get outta my head, please. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/023/397/C-658VsXoAo3ovC.jpg the hawk was my favorite all-time. so happy he's back w/ the cubs.
  22. thought this was kind of interesting if i squint hard enough i can KIND of see a bit of nomar in addison's swing (or maybe bat flip) and junior in kyle's swing (or maybe bat drop/flip)? i don't know. this offseason has probably just beaten me down to the point that i'm delusional
  23. Wouldn't that just be more incentive to tank/spend less? What he is trying to say is that small market team owners maybe don’t deserve to be assinated. BUT if they were to be...
  24. please don't say things like this that make me sad
