  1. good luck vance, I'm traveling back to my hometown for a few days, i'll vote a few more times when i get home tonight.
  2. Let me guess what happens next: A- runners advance on WP B- 2 straight strikeouts
  3. What??? Did you guys know that the cubs spent 300 million this past offseason??? That's the FIRST I've heard of it!
  4. what a terrible strikeout hill....you bum :x
  5. I'll give you two automatic outs with Hill and Pagan, but who else? Maybe Cedeno, but he hasn't had enough AB's since being recalled for me to judge him right now. Kendall has an OBP of .365 since being traded to the cubs and that includes his 1-15 start. Sure, his defense is poor and he couldn't slug his way out of a wet paper bag, but he's been anything but an automatic out lately. If fact if he keeps this up much longer, they should take a long look at moving him to the number two hole. Last year for Oakland I think his OBP for the second half was right at .400.
  6. a day off would be OK and all, but what did Marmol throw, 8 pitches? He's been overworked to some extent, but pitching to one batter will not break him. EDIT: 2 batters, but still not many pitches. Hopefully he gets a night off tomorrow and wood takes his role for a game.
  7. Dear Lou, this is Kerry Wood we are talking about, not Scott Eyre. He has really good stuff and throws very hard. It's pretty obvious that when you have an overworked BP then it's a good time to bring him in when he's fresh. -Weis
  8. jacque, jacqued one for the first time this afternoon. he was due.
  9. Why did the ump wait until Kendall tagged him? There was a runner at first so he didn't have to tag him, correct? If wood doesn't pitch the ninth then I'm pissed.
  10. I know it's a very tough judgment call to do in a game, but I wish DeRosa would have knocked that ball down and stepped on second and thrown to first for a DP. From the replay it looked like Delgado wasn't running much at all. Worst case scenario, you get the force at second and Delgado is safe at first.
  11. Wow...so I tried listening to Buck and McCarver and my ears started bleeding in the 4th. I finally put on a CD, but they are absolutely clueless and arrogant and terrible to listen to. I guess I shouldn't expect anything less coming from fox. Oh yeah....Murton Please.
  12. ok, correct me if i'm wrong, but church probably won't make it through waivers, but with washington's bad record, maybe one of our players could be claimed by them. I'm thinking that if we waive murton, wouldn't washington have the second shot at him behind pittsburgh? maybe murton and jones with the cubs picking up half of jone's salary? the waiver wire confuses me and this is probably apparent, but is something like that possible?
  13. I don't post much on the minor league forum, but I check these threads daily and it helps out so much in keeping up to date with our farm system. thanks for what you do california raisin.
  14. Does anyone know the order of the NL waiver wire? Or does it go by current record, therefore changing daily?
  15. those were my thoughts exactly. griffey...ok...he puts people in the seats thats fine. but why on earth do you not trade dunn when he's just going to walk this offseason? The nats did that last year with soriano, it's just so stupid. Why don't the nats trade cordero when RP is so highly regarded this year?
  16. sounds good to me, but wouldn't that be really easy for another team to block? Church can't be making that much money.
  17. Cesar Izturis can't win games by himself people!
  18. some guy (levine maybe) said on ESPN1000 that the cubs were still interested in trading for church possibly through the waiver wire...not sure how much truth is there. could they really do that? couldn't somebody block them pretty easily?
  19. yeah, except the fact that milwaukee doesn't have the resources to re-sign all of those young players when they are still in their prime. so in a way, their window is just as small as ours(maybe smaller depending on how big a checkbook the new owner has).
  20. because we have been playing .500 baseball with our current roster for the last 2 months? It was a hot streak. It got them back into contention, but to think they will sustain +.650 baseball the rest of the year is really pushing it. They havent even been over 8 games above .500 The team has to many weaknesses to sustain playing at that level for a 2-3 month timeframe. your right. team sucks. season over. good analyisis thanks for the input. I said nothing of the sort, but whatever, Im a Cubs fan and I expect failure from my team, as thats what they have done my entire life. Believe me I hope Im wrong, and IM man enough to admit it if Im wrong. We are all Cubs fans, but we all look at things differently, so why is my pessimism such a horrible thing? Its been 99 years and all 27 years of my life, and Ive never seen the Cubs in a World Series, so I think my pessimism is very warranted. you didn't have to necessarily say it. it's your "the sky is falling" attitude towards everything that is cubs. i'm disappointed if nothing happens as well, but if the asking price was way too high for a rental, then why mortgage the future?
