  1. For the most part, agree with everything, especially trading veal if his trade value is pretty high. I would be very surprised if Murton is still with the Cubs on August 1st. I have mixed feelings about trading him, but if it helps this team out considerably, then I'll be fine with it. Since he would be under the cubs control for several more years, I'm hoping that we get a little more than a rental for him.
  2. Big night tonight for Fontenot, 3-4 with 2 doubles. Soriano and Lee power up for a home run a piece as the cubs win decidedly 9-3.
  3. That's what I'm thinking, and it's why I think Kendall resigning is a real possibility. I don't see any reason to jump to that conclusion right now. Hell, there's a good chance that Hendry won't even be the GM next year with the ownership change, so who knows who the new GM wants.
  4. isn't it possible that they taped the interview prior to today?
  5. That loud sound you hear is laughter from Oakland. I hear the clinking of champagne glasses, even. I'm trying to level here. Give me some credit.
  6. When Kendall was traded for a lot of people were upset because we traded for a hitter that was hitting .220. I pleaded that we should give him a good shot, that he had a good OBP in the past. I stand corrected. Unless he does a 180, he is by far the worst catcher I have seen in a Cubs uniform this year.
  7. how serious did derosa's injury look? sorry about all the questions, i just turned the game back on and saw that he wasn't playing.
  8. just tuned back in and saw derosa is out, what happened?
  9. Depends on exactly how well he does from now till then. If he hit's say .300 after the all star break till then, I think some contender would probably take on his salary for the stretch run.
  10. Jones stock is rising fast! Uncle Cliffy showing the wheels!
  11. Joe Buck: Kip Wells is sneaky fast.
  12. I was going to say that the cubs were'nt getting those borderline calls in the top of the inning. then i remembered that the top of the first broke the sound barrier.
  13. For how cheap Kendall came, I really don't think it's possible for him to have been a waste of money. It was worth it to take the chance, even if he really does turn out to be a flop. That was my take on the trade as well. He hasn't been good at all this year, but if he can somehow manage close to his .396 OBP from the second half of last year, then he's an upgrade. I had heard 900K as well, but haven't looked it up myself.
  14. I saw that Blanco played a game the other night, anybody have a timetable for him? I would assume that would mean the end of koyie hill, since we're paying Blanco a lot of money for a 35 yr old catcher(2.5M?).
  15. Bruce, any news real quick before the game starts on rumors you are hearing? Thanks! No news. I posted something on that Dunn thing. I wouldn't go very far with that at all. Well I'm cautiously optimistic about the cubs acquiring that power bat they need, even if its not Dunn. Thanks Bruce.
  16. Bruce, any news real quick before the game starts on rumors you are hearing? Thanks!
  17. anybody else heard this? Or is it possible that CSN reported wrong that Fox was demoted instead of Moore? If fox is demoted as well I would have to imagine Murton has been called back up. Either that or a trade.
  18. whatever your trying to do with your font, it isn't working. This has the potential to be a devastating loss if the reds can somehow pull this one out.
  19. whew, 1st and 3rd, 2 outs in the top of the ninth and Estrada grounds out to first. Come on Reds, win it in the ninth!
  20. It's a risk...but it's one I'd be willing to take. I'm with you. I haven't even thought about it because I was under the impression that he was going to be out for a much longer time. However, if he does come back this weekend and shows more or less the same power as before, then I hope Jim sends them who it takes to get it done(minus Pie).
  21. I could live with Lofton if it was a last resort. If Lofton was the only OF we acquired by the deadline, I wouldn't mind seeing Derosa getting a lot more starts in RF. His defense has been far superior to Floyd's and frankly I feel as comfortable with Fontenot at the plate as I do Floyd lately. If nothing else it would be able to keep fragile Floyd somewhat fresh(if that's possible). But, after all that rambling, just go get Dunn or Griffey Jim!
  22. Go Reds and Rockies! I would be really happy if the cubs are 3 out of the central and only 1.5 out of the WC by tomorrow. Both the Reds and the Rockies have favorable pitching match-ups (although maddux is a bit of a wild card).
  23. That article was written on July 20th and Cotts pitched for Iowa the following day. So using their logic, the "disabled" Guzman should be pitching in no time. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=t451&gid=2007_07_21_nasaaa_iowaaa_1&cid=451&t=g_box
