  1. Carlos just got tired of all those people talking about boring games
  2. Lillibridge and Gonzalez are playing because of injuries. Hairston, in the situation you reference (our RH lineup), has a .325 OBP. Anyway, I'm not sure why you pulled his overall OBP because his strength isn't in getting on base. It's slugging. As a platoon player when he has a 122 OPS+ against LHP. Castillo is the most bizzare inclusion of all. In his limited playing time last year he put a line of 467/532/667 (1.199 OPS) in 42 AB vs LHP. Forty-two at bats is hardly a measuring stick, but to single him out for ONE game is ridiculous.
  3. Plus it feels like a lot of these "call your shots" are a bit on the pessimistic side. Especially with the pitchers (which is an area that is suppose to be stronger than the offense)
  4. But it shouldn't matter if he knocked the ball away before he took out his legs. He took out his legs. The foul should have been called. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  5. Big win for NC State! The freshman have seemed to really start fuzing with the upperclassmen and the chemistry and play on the court seems to get stronger with every game. PRAYING that the sport gods are going to throw me a bone for the first time in my life (knocks on wood). But, they always play Duke well so I'm really not all that surprised. Plus, though they are very good, I never thought they were the number one team in the nation. Moreover, Duke wasn't really all that healthy either. OK - I'm the worst at downplaying my teams big wins, it appears. :-) /irrelevant ACC post in the B10 basketball thread :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  6. Jody Gerut or Rob Bowen? edit - yup, googled both "jody gerut thanks for the memories" and "rob bowen thanks for the memories" and I was about to say "YES! Rob Bowen was who I was thinking!" but you had beat me with the edit. Can't remember important tasks to complete next week at work, but GOD HELP ME I will NOT totally forget that ridiculous Rob Bowen video I watched a total of one time! 7. I specifically remember this for some odd reason. It was, I believe, that one kid that basically said he plagiarized and had no problem with it? Skyballer I believe was his last handle? May be off with all of this, but I definitely remember that video. They traded for a person and then turned around and traded him like a week or so later. I don't even think he had time to be terrible. Again, could be way off base here. But I feel I'm right so to hell with it. ETA: Wait - was it a catcher? That sounds right? 8. Welp. Can't say I saw this one coming. I guess maybe a possible LOOGY candidate?
  9. If they add Bourn, Olt, AND Upton, I'm guessing that .500 would be the floor (even acknowledging that Olt may or should not be a world-beater in his rookie season). If they were to add those three I'd expect the Cubs to at least be in the playoff "picture" heading into September. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  10. i dunno, but i've always been a big fan of him. nc state had mediocre talent and he led them to some very solid years. just seems like a talented guy who makes smart decisions and can create a little with his legs. NC State? the school he played at for 3 years? doesnt count I'm a die hard NC State fan and have always been a big supporter and fan of Wilson. As cliche as it sounds and as much as I hate using/hearing terms like "it factor", the guy really does have something special about him. He's got a great work ethic and is a great all around guy from all accounts. I definitely did not see THIS amount of success - especially this soon - but I always thought he had a good chance to be successful (regardless of his height). And, I was honestly happy to see him transfer to Wisconsin for his last year because I thought it would elevate his exposure for sure (like, you know, how even in this thread people didn't know he was a stud 3 years at NC State prior to playing at Wisconsin) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  11. I would prefer it over Villanueva but I like the Feldman deal more than the Liriano deal. Same here. I don't like Villanueva at all and think Liriano has a higher upside. The difference of course being that Villanueva was apparently willing to accept being a swingman and/or bullpen arm. Unless you like Liriano better than Feldman or Baker, there wasn't a guaranteed rotation slot to offer him. That may be true, but Villanueva is a very expensive swingman. David Posted a FanGraphs link in the Villanueva thread that stated, given his past results, he would be worth his contract even if used solely in the swingman/relief role. 12. I'm decidedly not excited about 4/52, but .... it's not that bad. Just wonder if, in their minds as of right now (acknowledging that a lot of things can change), this is a swap (signing Jackson and then dealing Garza) or if it's to give them three solid arms in their prime to build around. Either way, I'm getting excited. Not getting my hopes up yet, but cautiously optimistic with the reports out there. I predicted (shot in the dark) from the rumors swirling out there that the Cubs may sign both Jackson and CV. Part of me would LOVE extending Garza (if healthy, of course) and having 3 really, really good starting pitchers going forward. But I'm also very intrigued to see if Shark could net 3 critical pieces that may be more important to fielding a contender sooner. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  13. The Cubs will be better at first base this year because Rizzo is a far superior player than LaHair. What is your argument? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  14. Jesus, how many times can one fan base be teased in such a short time span?? UGHHH I'd love to see the Cubs move fast and turn their attention to Jackson and Villanueva. Assuming in that case the Cubs traded Garza for offense/spects, a rotation of Samardzija, Jackson, Baker, Villanueva, and Feldman is still pretty solid and hopefully there are still some moves and resources to be invested in upgrading the offense (Bourn perhaps?). 15. Deadspin writer's take on Albom's idiotic column on the award/Cabrera. (strong language)
  16. Blame IMB. I drive an E Honda Cammy Am I doing this right?
  17. I honestly don't think he would be attractive to anyone in any matter. He had a .572 OPS in the second half last year. He's also completely inept against anyone throwing with their left hand. He's just pretty bad.
  18. Nobody spent like drunken sailors at all on Soler. Are we sure people are high enough on this guy to spend ridiculously? Is his ceiling high enough to dictate that (not that that in and of itself would be enough to stop someone from grossly overpaying)? I don't know, just hasn't seemed like he was THAT hyped up. I haven't payed terribly close attention, however.
  19. Honestly, I'm not. Neither am I. The Cubs seem way to conservative right now and there too many teams willing to drop stupid money. The one thing they have seemed willing to do is spend money on guys they can control for several years. They've overspent just because they can and are more willing to do that than trade their quantity guys. Agreed. I fully expect a very competitive offer and unless someone completely blows everyone else out of the water (which is possible), I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Cubs signed him. That would be a nice start to this weekend. Hopefully we find out today one way or another.

    NFL Week 9

They've won a game, didn't they lead then? I would have thought so, but they said since it was in OT and the game was over after the score they haven't actually lead DURING a game. That is, no time from the game clock has run when they were in the lead. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    NFL Week 9

Weddle is hardly the best safety in the league, but he's good. What are River's "antics" nowadays anyways? It's a home broadcast they are spinning the best possible light on a team that lost 4 consecutive coming into this game. What's the problem unless the specifically said Weddle is the best S in the NFL (which I highly doubt)? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  22. Well he was a communication major, after all. Excellent read. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
